Sadly there's no way to correct this.
Not quite sure how it works but I believe if an account for activation is pending too long then it might be removed by itself. but how long this takes and if it actually happens I'd need to check with raz about.
But until or if that happens, there's not really anything you can do than trying to make another account. Users must be careful with which information they put in for the registration.
