Mashed potatoes and ketchup is pretty normal..

Potato and wasabi is supposedly weird.  Do try it.
The Japanese concept of wabisabi:
The closest concept in english would be 'rustic'
They might have an old thing, one example is a favourite bowl or dish, it's broken, pieces are missing, why fix it?  With gold and pieces from other dishes?
"Because it was my favourite & I like it"

*Squints at my old post* I wrote something not specific?

Plain seaweed is delicious.

When I was younger, I liked experimenting with ketchup whenever there was ketchup.
Ketchup and chicken go very well together, but I went a bit crazier.
Ketchup made mashed potatoes a whole lot better.
I once tried ketchup and mac-n-cheese, the texture was not very great.
I would empty meat pies of their meat(By scooping the meat onto the plate) and fill the shell of the meat pie with ketchup, then I'd put the ketchup on the plain meat and eat the meat.

My presets.

Good things take time, so I'll take an eternity and create something so good that the human brain can't handle the sheer goodness of it.
