Can someone please help me with a height map/mask?

So I tried (keyword = tried) to make a height map and mask for a warriors roleplay, but it failed miserably. I can't use gimp or photoshop so I used splashup. I'm not sure what I did wrong, but I couldn't open either of them on map-maker.
Long story short, can someone please re-create the stuff for me? I don't need a map, just the height/mask.

This probably belongs in either Game Help or Request Maps or something... but meh, whatever.
Not sure what you mean by not being able to open them, either. Did it give you an error, did it stop working or did it just not load? It's probably caps sensitive if it just didn't load though.
So, do you want it smudged a bit like this?


I don't use splashup so I don't know the problem exactly. :/

I entered the name in the mapmaker and FH just closed, no error message.

And yeah, I smudged it like that. Could that be the problem?

Odd. If you can crop it to 512 x 512 possibly as a try then I guess that'd be okay. I smudged the terrain and mask out a bit for ya and could smudge it more if needed to lessen the detail a bit.
Did you try making it a .jpg and then a .png again too? I know it seems dumb but it's just a random suggestion. :/
ALSO, make sure the terrain is grayscale in case and no extra layers. Only one layer is allowed on them.

I used the whole greyscale/no layers thing the whole time, and I had to switch it from a .jpg to a .png when first saving it.

Just did the 512 x 512 thing, nope. Just closed completely.

I believe it is the program you used, either that or its smudged too much for the game to handle, even I can't open the heightmap in Map Maker. Is there a reason why you can't use GIMP? I could try and remake the heightmap in GIMP if needed?

I took the liberty of downloading Splashup and using the browser version as well. I couldn't find a Greyscale or RGB mode at all; using grey, black and white colours is not the same as Greyscale. Since you can't choose a mode that's probably what I think is causing the problem.

GIMP is free and I would really recommend using it when it comes to creating map terrains and masks.

Managed to download Gimp and recreate the map (with greyscale). I went to open it and it just closed. Then I did it again without the overboard smudging, still crashed completely.

Then I angrily threw together one final map, and guess what? It worked. Absolutely no idea what I did.

Haha, yeah that does tend to happen sometimes. Glad to know you got it working now though
