How did you blend the grey and white so well on the first one?

.. that's the gradient tool..
Select the exact area you want to blend. Use it then.

What on the U.V mapd did you change to make them transparent?

Zeberius is pretty much right in what I did xD. I used a low opacity brush in Photoshop and then used the smudge tool a little.
But I warn you, trying to line it up is a huge pain x_X

Nothing at all. As I explained in a post higher up: You have to save them as PNG files, and in order to make things transparent you just erase what you want to be..well transparent XD instead of colouring the whole thing.

You could probably make "ghosts"/partially transparent presets this way too. I've yet to try it though.

OH and the code you add in the  Material file is also a key thing in making presets transparent.
