« on: July 10, 2011, 06:38:18 pm »
Hi I was wondering how to make terrain masks, I've looked on the Documentation page but the terrain masks part is always blank. So could anyone give me a simple explination please?

Thanks,

1. You need GIMP (Google and download it if you don't have it) Photoshop will also work if you have that.
2. Select "New" and set it to 513x513 pixels, RGB mode.
3. Paint it in with Red, Green, and Blue; Red will be texture 1, Green will be texture 2, Blue will be texture 3 in your maps.
4. Save it as either a .png or a .jpg (in my opinion, png is better)
5. Go into your map and in the load it into there.
6. Pick your first terrain texture and pick others by using the arrow above the terrain texture select for help.

(I can explain more detail if needed)

Terrain masks is what Ruby explained, if you're also looking for height maps, then it's exactly the same, but you use grey, black and white. Set the image on grayscale, paint it in a middle grey. Black is the lowest point, white is the highest.

You could look at a youtube video except they bring the map into the game differently. Also always when your saving put "Terrain.png" at the end of your heightmap name and for your mask put "Mask.png" otherwise the game probably cant find it thats wat happened to me anyway.
Will be inactive due to work and exams.
