Game Discussion / What Do You Do With Your Screenshots?

A kinda weird question that just came to mind. What do you with your screenshots? Do you just keep all of them stored up in the screenshots folder and are reaching a ridiculous number of screenshots? Do you delete all of them eventually? Remove them and organize them in other folders? Just never ever take screenshots? Something else?

I usually delete any 'bad' screenshots after a while, maybe every few months (like me trying to glitch up a wall or ones I took accidentally) and then organize the rest into other folders on my computer depending on the characters in the screenshots or if they're just pictures of maps or whatever. I don't really like deleting many screenshots, I just kinda see older ones as memories that I'd like to look at again sometime. Especially the ones of me just making really dumb things :'D

What do you do with your screenshots? I hope I'm not the only one who likes to organize them haha

Now that school's kinda winding down and I really want to get back into drawing and making characters, I decided I wanted to become more active on FH! I figured I should probably write a bit about myself as a start (I didn't really feel like an introduction thread was necessary, since I guess I haven't really 'quit' FH, just was mostly kinda watching from a distance?). also wow ive been trying to write this thread for like a week but couldn't think of anything to say

So, hello! I'm Torskite, feel free to call me Torskite or any of my other character names, I don't really mind which you use! I use they/them pronouns so I'd really appreciate if you'd use them while talking to me! <3

I live in the midwestern United States. I'm a teen, more on the younger side. I spend most of my time on the computer---sometimes I do productive things. I mostly draw or write stories, and I really enjoy roleplaying and making characters. I kinda have a problem of making TOO many characters though, so I've kinda acquired quite the hoard of characters but refuse to get rid of any of them.... if you take into account all my characters, including ones in stories, ones from when I was younger, and the family members of my main characters, that's gotta be over 1000 at this point. Yeah.... whoops. But I love all of them, still.

I joined FeralHeart in about 2013 on a different account. I found out about FH through playing some other animal games. However, I... wasn't really too mature on that old account ahaaaa. So recently once registration was reopened I made another account so I could just sorta... start fresh?

While actually playing FH, I more enjoy the creation aspect of it. I'm usually making maps, presets, meshes, etc., but I have such a bad habit of procrastinating and abandoning projects that I rarely finish anything

Some day I'll actually finish something. SOME DAY!

Stuff I like:

-Rocks/minerals/etc... they're just so cool man.
-Gorillaz, as in the band. I was so pumped when they released that new album recently aaa its so good
-Drawing, even if I'm not that good I still like drawing. Someday I'll decide on a consistent art style, but that day is not today.
-Animals, of course! My favorites are goats, cheetahs, mice & rats, turtles, and birds (especially chickens and hummingbirds). I have a lot of favorites but generally just... animals!!!
-Cacti!
-Roleplaying
-Hamilton, the musical.
-Some TV shows I like: Steven Universe, BoJack Horseman, and also I'm guilty of being a fan of shows like the Office and Parks & Rec
-Pokemon
-Food. Especially pasta.
-Nice color schemes (probably gonna sound like a hypocrite here lmao)

Game Suggestions & Ideas / Minor Preset Changes [Suggestion]

I've been making some presets, and I've thought of a few small ideas that could be added in the future to make preset making a little bit easier. These are EXTREMELY small, I understand these aren't game-breaking issues or whatever lol. Mostly just stuff that would help new preset makers... and also lazy ones like me xD

Add 'Equip' code into all materials by default

As of now, only presets 11 and 12 have the code for wings added into them by default. Of course, it's entirely possible to add in the codes to the other presets, but I think it'd be a just simple change to have them added into all of the files. I've noticed that its sometimes led to a bit of confusion and misinformation about if you can have wings for other presets, and it won't really affect anything if the wings are actually used or not yet the code is still in the file.

I think that MAYBE the mane fix could be automatically applied to all the presets as well, though I'm not 100% on this, as it does require one extra not-so-obvious step to have the manes be... not blocky. But it'd still be a bit of a time-saver for preset-makers.

"References" folder revamp

I think it'd be nice to add more stuff in the references folder. A simple FAQ and basic preset tutorial would be pretty helpful for people who are new to preset making---just things like "What is a preset?" "How do I make a preset?/What programs do I use to make a preset?" "How can my friends see my preset?" etc. Maybe even a little guide on how to do very basic preset coding, maybe just like transparency and changing the file extensions or something. More advanced coding like ambience, scrolling, etc. could probably be excluded, but just the basic stuff would be fine.

Perhaps an update to the legends (the images that show where parts of the UV correspond to on the model) in that folder? I mean, they get the point across, but it seems like maybe they could be a bit... cleaner? I don't know, might be a bit of a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" sorta thing, just figured I'd suggest it.

And one last thing---add manes to the references folder. It just feels nicer to have all of the preset stuff in one place, instead of having to navigate to the textures folder to get the manes. Just a copy of the mane shade and mane mask in the references folder would be coolio. And then perhaps the whole blocky-mane thing could be explained in the readme and make more sense.

That's all I can think of for now... again, just minor changes. I guess I'm just throwing these ideas out there, I'm not sure if they'd really be implemented. (Btw, none of these should require the source code, to my knowledge)

Actually one more thing, I just happened to notice it while going to post this thread: Maybe that "Mega Action Idea Thread" thread should be unstickied from this board? I don't see much of a reason for it to be stickied anymore, especially since its locked and no longer relevant.

I've been thinking about this recently... why do YOU make characters?

What I mean is, I've seen people make characters for tons of different reasons, both inside and outside of FH! I'd like to know why most people make their own characters---is it for roleplaying them, drawing them, trading/selling them? Maybe they're just nothing but a recognizable 'mascot' for yourself? Did you make them just for writing a story? Or do you have other reasons for making your characters?

Personally, I've made most of my characters for a mix of roleplaying/drawing---I enjoy making up whole personalities and stories behind my characters, and I guess I like to sort of 'grow' with them? I'm pretty attached to most of my characters tbh, I'd never be able to sell or trade a lot of them.

What about you? I'm pretty curious to see all the different reasons for people having characters! (And this can apply to non-FH characters, too! c:)

Figured I might as well make a character thread. If you ever see me in-game feel free to say hi! I don't bite ~~even if i am very awkward~~

TORSKI

Name: Torski
Gender: Female
Species: Coydog (exact dog breeds and such are still kinda undecided)
Age: 3 years old

Personality: Torski loves rocks and minerals, and spends almost all her time living and exploring caves. She is adventurous and curious, though sometimes those traits can get her into trouble. Torski’s a bit absent-minded and often forgets what she’s doing, and can get distracted by the smallest things (honestly just jingle some keys in front of her and she'll get distracted). She’s upbeat, optimistic, and a bit quirky, and is always trying to help and be friendly to everyone she meets. She’s not the sharpest tool in the shed, but does have an extensive knowledge on Geology and can tell you all about it. She's a bit naive and gullible, though luckily she has her family members to keep her from doing anything stupid. She believes in second chances and rarely holds grudges. She also really likes befriending random animals she comes across, like butterflies and spiders. Generally she's just a tiny innocent dog who likes rocks.
Strengths: Friendly, optimistic, nimble, fast runner, high-stamina
Weaknesses: Clumsy, easily-distracted, gullible, very physically weak
Likes: Rocks, geology, cute things, positivity, socializing, storms, aliens, shiny things, flowers
Dislikes: Negativity, being stuck in one place for too long, loud noises, strict rules, cities
Backstory: Wip mostly? Haven't really made it yet

Parents: Birth parents unknown, she is currently being cared for by a fox named Nirirye
Siblings: A wolf named Tyupa, who Nirirye also adopted
Friends: Utei (Utei would disagree with this statement)

Location: Mostly explores random tunnels (and then comes up to the surface every once in awhile to befriend the nearest bird or insect). Nirirye owns a large area of land in a random cave, so Torski does stay there whenever she's not exploring. Torski would otherwise be considered a rogue, as she doesn't belong to any pack or group.

UTEI

Name: Utei
Gender: Agender (they/them pronouns)
Species: Mutt dog
Age: 3 years old

Personality: They're my "fursona" of sorts, basically just me as a dog (but very exaggerated). Utei is mostly just angry and sarcastic. They're extremely bad in social situations and just like to be alone and avoid people as much as possible. They'll randomly say some weird or creepy things out of the blue and are generally very pessimistic. They don't like to show much emotion and tend to remain painfully neutral and emotionless in most situations. They're fairly smart, but so lazy they don't really do anything. Memes. Really likes to complain. Trying their best.
Strengths: Actually fairly strong, can use the metal on their body to their own advantage
Weaknesses: Very low stamina, due to being made in a lab some parts of their body can randomly stop working, can barely run
Likes: Goats, a e s t h e t i c, electronics, music, food, turtles
Dislikes: Sheep, talking to people, pop music, summer, the cello
Backstory: Their backstory is mostly WIP but I've got a general idea I guess? They were mostly just a failed experiment in some probably illegal laboratory out in the middle of nowhere. Scientists were trying to see if they could replicate an animal and how far they could go in giving it certain features. The experiment did not go as planned, and Utei ended up with literal metal flesh, two tails, and different ears. As Utei was still functional as an animal and wasn't in pain, they decided not to kill them. They watched them over a few years as they grew like a normal dog, and eventually released them into the wild once they had gotten enough information out of them. The scientists are currently working on newer experiments with even more success, though Utei is uncertain of exactly what is happening now.

Family: None, as they're basically just a fake animal and don't have any other family.

Home: Nowhere, lives as a complete rogue. Occasionally is accompanied by Torski.
Powers: They can make their metal to any temperature they would like, and can even control how much it affects the rest of their body. So basically if you anger them, be prepared for 400 degree metal TO THE FACE. Also they could cook food on their body. So many possibilities

ULA

Name: Ula
Gender: Agender (they/them, she/her is also alright)
Species: Fairy Fauna (NOT MY SPECIES)
Age: Unknown

Note: I haven't made their preset yet so that's why there's no FH screenshots!

Personality: Ula is generally reserved and quiet, barely speaking a word. Socializing definitely isn't their strongpoint, but they don't mind! Time spent alone at home is much better than time spent talking, in their eyes. However, they feel it is much easier to put their words into images. Ula is often found scribbling, painting, or even sometimes making jewelry! Pottery and painting are their main passions, though, and often the two go hand-in-hand. They even have an entire room dedicated to their creations! They are known for their artistic talent and creative nature... though perhaps not their organizational skills.

Ula likes to just remain alone in their small little house. Often they'll befriend any small animals or insects that cross their path! Really, they'll invite anyone who comes across their house inside! Their home is adorned with their art, cute calendars, and lots and lots of tea. It still makes for a cozy and inviting home, though it can sometimes look a bit crazy when Ula's taken up multiple projects, so just watch out for paint splatters and pieces of paper! Even if they're not great at talking, they're a wonderful listener, and are trying their best at trying to brighten everyone's day.

Presets & Markings / Torskite's Presets [UPDATE 2/27/17]

I finally was productive for once and finished up some presets! :D

I tried to use an ENB mod to take the screenshots, but that was a regrettable action and I apologize to all of those people I randomly ran over in Ficho because I was lagging so badly and couldn't control where I was running. I'll send you a box of chocolates or something.

TORSKITE

Nothing too fancy. The head is asymmetrical and the eyes glow a bit. I tried to include in her little neck fluff thing--it went better than expected, at least.

UTEI

It glows! :D Utei has metal basically just embedded into their flesh somehow, so I did my best to make it sorta glow in the dark. Even their pawpads and tongue glow. This one took wayyy too long to make, but I'm happy with the result. Plus they look awful without a preset lmao

ULA

This one was honestly pretty difficult to do, and I'm still not completely satisfied, so I might touch this up a bit some time in the future. I'm not too used to feline presets tbh. Anyways, their tail glows :D And I did the eye texture all myself and I am very proud. The design is not originally mine, it was a character I adopted/won in a contest.
