There's 2 different options. One is the mane and the other is the tuft color. Are you selecting the tuft option when changing the color sliders?

I tried both, it still stayed the default colour anyway :(

Maybe it has to deal with the mod you're using for FH? Could be some misplaced files. I'd say try re-installing.
