Game Discussion / Re: When do You Accept a Buddy Request?
« on: February 20, 2017, 03:11:12 am »
Hmm, this is a tough question for me. As much as I'd want as many people to consider friends as possible within the community, it takes a lot for me to get to the point of friendship. Heck, after all these years on this game, I've really only had 3 or so users I'd even consider to be "friends," and I still only talk to 2 of them outside of the game. So I'd usually wait through a couple of interactions before accepting a request, but not too many, since in order to deeply get to know a person, you'd need an easy way of communication, which the buddy list functions include nicely.

Game Discussion / Fantasy Bias
« on: January 10, 2017, 02:02:16 am »
I've noticed a bit of a trend in roleplays lately. This kind of ties into literacy vs. illiteracy, but it seems like certain types of fantasy plots are brushed off nowadays. I'm not necessarily talking about demons or dragons, but wizards or trolls and such. A lot of the time, popular groups may have certain fantasy races (like the mentioned demons, dragons, elven wolves, etc.), but wizardly animals are "cringey" or "unoriginal," or orcs/trolls/ogre animals are "boring" or "juvenile" or "disgusting." Which does kind of make sense, wizard OCs have a bad reputation for powerplaying or being Mary-sues, and yes, in most representations, orcs are just great rampaging simpletons (not to mention it's harder to turn them into attractive anime boys).

Though I feel like they can be improved on. The whole point of roleplaying fantasy characters is to develop them your own way. Dragons weren't always wise, respectful creatures in media. Just ask Dark Souls. People rewrote them and interpreted them onto animals as they liked. We barely see any imps either. Why not? They're fun, mischievous and not entirely evil, but not to be messed with... just like a lot of people's characters, I've noticed.

This got sort of ranty, whoops! Anywho, am I the only one who thinks this way? Anyone else have some fantasy creatures we need to see more of?

Game Discussion / Re: opinion on 'literacy / illiteracy' divide
« on: January 10, 2017, 01:50:21 am »
I don't mean for this to come off the wrong way, but I can see why some people would want "literates" as opposed to "illiterates." Situationally speaking, in a group where players typically have a couple of parahraphs per post, especially with vivid descriptions, a "he bit her hard" or even a "The feline pounced, sinking his teeth into her" may seem out of place. I know I'm not typically one for super indulgent roleplays with tons of details, I do like to imagine it like a story I'm writing with my partners/groupmates.

But as for the whole division between or using it as an excuse to bully or exclude people is just wrong. I understand if people were to turn down someone, but there's a difference between a decline and exclusion. Personally, with my past groups, failing as they were, I prefer to go with an "Alright, but you may want to add some more details as we go along."

I would honestly be rather surprised. Especially on this new account with like no posts or anything. I think I'd have to sleep on it, but if I did accept, I would try my best to hold down the fort where I'm needed and help some folks out when I can.

This is a very nice tutorial! This should help quite a few people!

Forum Discussion / Re: User Authority Change?

Yes, I've kind of observed this myself. I think it's just a simple matter of cliques. As Kuri pointed out, on certain topics few people tend to agree/disagree in deviation from the typical response to try and keep an "argument pacifist" and fit in with the mainstream responses. Which, isn't a bad thing, but, where's the fun in a forum if everyone speaks the same point?

As of this post I think I'm going to change mine to Klipspringer, since it's where the "springer" portion of my old name came from, and like, dude, look at these things. Adorable.

Game Discussion / Re: What is your definition of "active?"
« on: January 09, 2017, 10:41:07 pm »
I think it's fairly subjective based on the group. If it's a strictly in-game group, then I feel like at least a few people should be on most of the time. As for groups that extend to Skype or a website of some sort, a few posts daily (different people).
