Forum Discussion / Regarding Ad.fly
« on: May 26, 2020, 03:46:01 am »
Please, god, find another way to generate revenue to keep the servers running!

I'm aware that the issue only effects mediafire links [as far as I know] but there have been several instances in the past and present of my antivirus detecting dangerous files [unwanted downloads, or links to dangerous sites] when trying to use Adfly. This is completely unacceptable on a forum that is accessible to and used by children/minors who may be exposed to pornographic or otherwise dangerous content and malware, especially on computers that may be owned by the family, don't have adequate antivirus software, or don't have adblocking capabilities. Without a competent adblocker, Ad.fly's proxy interface becomes redunant as the webpage is filled with popups and malicious links to download programs such as "open software updater," which has been regarded as adware that bundles with other potentially unwanted programs. Fake, "sketchy" download pages and links are especially dangerous as they may confuse some users into downloading dangerous software, when in reality they want whatever preset, map, etc they saw on the forums. Even when the user waits on the webpage and avoids Adfly's advertisements, the website will still redirect to websites that load dangerous scripts and/or attempt to download unwanted programs, as well as occasionally play fake audio that claims the user's computer has been infected with a virus and that they should install an even sketchier antivirus. Adfly may claim on their website that their advertisements are "strictly family-safe with no popups" and that "anti-virus and malware servers are scanning the adverts 24/7" but this is COMPLETELY falsified.
Until the issue is addressed it would be far easier and safer for users to link to downloads on Google Drive or Dropbox.
There are also Chrome extensions to bypass Adfly completely. Here is one for Firefox.

I suggest using Patreon (Lite) as a way to fund the servers. Of course there is no way to ensure that it would be effective until enough people have pledged. There is always a 5% fee + processing costs, there has to be a way to gather enough incentive to pledge in the first place, and there's no guarantee that the measly ~100-200 people that play the game as it is would be able to afford pledges to the Patreon page, given the fact that the userbase is very diverse in both age and financial abilities. I don't know how much the game server and website cost yearly to run, if they are based on monthly payments, etc, but based on averages as little as $75 a month on Patreon could potentially fund them.

Hello there! Recently I've been playing with a controller far more than a keyboard, so I'd thought I'd try to adapt Feralheart controls to a PS4 controller.
This makes use of a program called Antimicro (at the moment) that is still in development. It has not been updated in over 3 years, but it still functions on Windows 10. This may not work for MAC OS and Linux systems.
Of course, you will still need a keyboard and mouse for typing, and selecting buttons.

Download Antimicro 2.23
Download controller preset

Downloads should begin automatically.
Antimicro is hosted on Github, and I have scanned all files to confirm that it does not contain any malicious viruses or malware.
Any complaints from your antivirus are false positives, particularly because it is not a well-known program.

!! Step 1: Make sure your controller is connected and recognized !!

This is the most important step!

Plug your PS4 Controller into your PC via USB cable. If you would rather use Bluetooth, here is an external tutorial on how to accomplish this.
The port that a PS4 controller uses is the same type as an Android phone, I used an old phone charger I had lying around, this is how I connected my controller to my PC.
You can buy cheap android chargers from mostly any store if you do not have one. I would recommend it is atleast 3-5ft so they can reach around your computer to your desk/hands.

Antimicro will not work if your controller does not have the correct drivers.
Windows 10 should automatically detect and install the necessary drivers for your PS4.

Once Windows 10 gives you a notification that says your "wireless controller" has been recognized, download Antimicro and my controller preset file.

Once downloaded, extract Antimicro from it's zip file.
You may need a program like winzip or winrar to do this.

I recommend extracting the folder either to your desktop, or another easy-to-access place.
Here, I have extracted it to the Feralheart root folder.
The folder will not mess with the game itself in any way if you put it there.

Open the new folder and run antimicro. You can ignore all of the hubbajubba and extra folders for now.
Ignore the security warning; it only pops up because the developer did not include a publisher.
Hit "run."

When Antimicro first opens, it needs to recognize your buttons on your controller.
Click the button that says "controller mapping."

You will then need to manually input buttons so that Antimicro recognizes them. It will display an XBOX controller, but the function and layout is virtually the same on a PS4 controller.
All of this will be empty when you first open it.
Press the buttons in order, this is fairly straight forward.
If you make a mistake, you can click on the box with the error and correct it.

For reference, here is my string.

Quote

Once you have done this, hit "save."

Now that you have mapped your buttons, the interface should look like this.

Hit "load."
Now, find the controller preset that you previously downloaded, and hit "open."

Everything should automatically load in. Launch Feralheart, login and play!

You must leave Antimicro running in the background or else Feralheart will not recognize button input.

Introduction / Hi again!
« on: August 04, 2019, 08:56:10 pm »
Hello all!

Returning member from 2014, though I vaguely remember playing this game when I was a wee stupid youngchild. I was a bit active in 2017 when I was still mostly a wee stupid youngchild, but now I've been? Thrown? Into The Horrible Hands of Adulsthood and Everything Is On Fire. I'm still a wee stupid youngchild rlly idk how to do anything.
I dropped the game mid February 2017, when I was deep into making an expansive map pack that ... unfortunately corrupted itself when I tried to export it to submit it to the mapmaking contribution/"calling all talented creators" threads :( Made my 17 year old self very very mad, I had lost dozens of hours of work, so I let the Feralheart root folder sit on my harddrive for a few months before completely deleting it.
Recently this game has been hounding my thoughts, it was a very good creative outlet for me! I've been exhausted via working retail (do it for the experience but prepare for the mental anguish) for a few months now and I'm pondering withdrawing from or atleast taking an extended hiatus from University as I have no desire to study at all, I just want to create. Map and preset-making were almost therapeutic. I'd figured I would pop back in again and see how things were going.
Ecstatic to see that we finally have the source code!!

I'm always open for any roleplays, be it in Feralheart, another game, or in the forums. I also play The Endless Forest quite a bit under the username Shey, and you can find a lot of them under my blog entries, or on my Toyhouse @snarpo.

Currently trying to figure out how to map the controls to a PS4 controller/DPAD so if you see my characters freaking out in the Grounds thats probably why lol. I might? Post a tutorial sometime soon on how to play with one? Perhapeth?

Also! I will probably not be very active on the forums, I like to lurk, so you are free to add me on steam (snarpo), or follow me on twitter and tumblr @SVTURNVL ! My twitter and tumblr are both my art accounts so maybe take a peek there too..

Media / INKARNATE - Map Maker for Roleplays
« on: March 04, 2017, 01:04:12 am »
What is Inkarnate?

Inkarnate Worlds is a web-based cartography tool that allows you to quickly and easily illustrate your fantasy worlds. It was created by reddit user nickrart almost a year ago and is still in the open beta stage, but you can sign up on the website to start creating maps. This can be very useful for fantasy roleplays, or just in general roleplays that need a map but you don't want to draw it up yourself. :)

"The goal of Inkarnate - Worlds is allow DMs to map out their custom campaign worlds in as much detail as they desire. We have aimed to make the tool easy to pick up and use by a 'non-artist', but also providing enough customization for power users and artists."

Youtube Video by WASD20 that explains it a bit more than I do.

In the coming weeks, the team is planning on bringing Inkarnate to commercial light and adding more map styles to create, such as a more parchment world style and the capability to flesh out cities.

How do I use it?
Visit inkarnate.com to access the tool. You must sign up for beta at the top left first! Check your email after registering so you can login and start making maps.
After logging in you'll be redirected to an empty map maker. The icons to the left are pretty straightforward - hover over them to see their tooltips and what they do. There is a toolbar at the top of the program that lets you change options of the tools. To the left of the toolbar is your account icon, where you can see all of your created maps and edit them if you want.

Use the Sculpt Tool to add or erase land mass. You can change the brush size to add more detail/
The texture tool will allow you to paint the terrain to your liking. There are a variety of different parchment and land textures to choose from.
Objects such as a compass, towns, castles, and icons can be placed and manipulated with the Object tool.
The Pattern Tool lets you add trees, hills, and mountains to your map.
The Text Tool is used to add... surprise! text! to your maps.
The grid tool adds a square/hex overlay to your map so it reflects lines of longitude/latitude or general designated areas. You can change the color, size, and opacity of it. If you don't like the grid effect and want to get rid of it just set opacity to 0.
The note tool lets you add little location icons that you can view in the user panel later. You can't see notes in the general editing/overview, though - you have to click on the note tool to bring them up again [they weren't magically deleted or not saved! they're just hiding]

To delete objects after you place them, make sure you're on the "Select" setting at the top, then highlight them and select "Delete" from the dropdown that pops up.
To save your maps, click the "save" button, which is the second-to-last icon. This saves the map to your account so you can access and/or edit it later.

To download the map, click the "export" button. You'll get a popup that lets you save it as a .jpeg image. Name it what you want and voila! You're finished. :)

High-fantasy | Multi-species | Plotted | Mapped | Longterm | Custom-made Lore

Terran Gaia is a work-in-progress multispecies high fantasy roleplay, created to mirror a game of Dungeons and Dragons and was highly inspired by the Elder Scrolls.  I need some help developing some things like the plotline, races, magic, fauna/flora, and just general worldbuilding. It’s still kinda half baked. You can request access to edit the files on Google Docs, and can talk to me or suggest things on this thread or on this document. If you develop this with me, you can play as a God or higher ranking member once the roleplay starts. :)

The roleplay will be using my personal map pack, which I realize may be taxing on other people’s systems, so I am considering creating smaller and less detailed maps. It will also be held on the forums so users that can’t be in the maps can still roleplay there, and users who are in the maps can optionally roleplay again. The map pack will be up for public download so I’m trying to figure out how to work out a situation if someone who is not in the group approaches, but I created the maps before really fleshing out the roleplay...  hmm

Google Docs folder - here is where a lot of things will be developed. Keep checking back for more updates. Lore section has docs on religion, astronomy, magic/powers, custom races, and realms/provinces. Roleplay folder has docs such as application, rules, and a list of major groups. It will also have another list of members.

The roleplay will be advertised here. This thread contains basic information, application a lot of links to things like the actual roleplay thread.
It will be held in-game 3 times a month, and the days of roleplay will be posted the first of every month. Dates may be updated if my schedule changes, which it does a lot… Forum roleplays will always be held the next day. All forum roleplays will end at 10 PM EST and all ingame roleplays will end at 8 PM EST. [timezone converter]
The roleplay will take place on both the forums and ingame. It will not have it’s own forum because creating one is very headache-inducing, and I don’t really want anyone else to make the site. Forum roleplays will be held in the Groups Roleplay board, but only after ingame roleplay days. It will always end at 8 PM EST, please don’t roleplay past that time. I may attend either forum or ingame roleplays.
I am debating whether or not to require some form of contact when applying, like making a Skype group or Discord server. I know that not everyone has access to these applications so I’m skeptical. In the event that I choose to move forum roleplays over to another application, forum, game etc, or an emergency occurs that I cannot publicly post on the forum, I will contact you with the details of the situation. Roleplays may be moved from the forums to skype/discord in the future. Your contact information will not be shared anywhere on the forum unless you’re ok with it.

Not sure how to actually form the actual roleplay group. This is really just the universe that they are set in. Maybe subgroups? Such as separate dragon dens/wolf packs/etc. Each will have their own leaders/ranks/culture/etc. Like warrior cat clans. You can develop and discuss subgroups with me and also be the leader of these groups.

Gods will either be non-playable characters or reserved for long term members / people I trust. They will eventually have their own presets that can be used. There will also be some plot-related characters that people can play.

Development Partners:
Dragoneiz is working on new custom races and their cultures. You can play as these races in the roleplay. Check them out!

I am still developing this!! Check back in the docs and this thread to see some more updates. Suggestions and questions are highly encouraged!

Other Mods/Creations / Skyrim-esque / Black / Metallic UI for FH
« on: January 29, 2017, 07:58:24 am »

Very simple replacer for Feralheart's GUI, inspired by Skyrim / SkyUI.
I started this as a thing out of boredom, then six hours later ta-dah! it's literally been 6 hours since i've started working on this and let me tell you, let me tell you,
This replaces both textures and fonts.

INSTALLATION

---------- BACKUP BEFORE INSTALLING ----------

IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO MAKE A COPY OF BOTH OVERLAY AND TEXTURE FOLDERS PRIOR TO INSTALL!
If you do that, you can easily uninstall by replacing the new UI with your old UI by copy-pasting.

Extract all items in "textures" folder to Feralheart/Media/Textures.
Extract all items in the "overlay1" folder to your overlay1 folder found in Feralheart/Media/Overlays/Overlay1. That's it![/color][/size]

DOWNLOAD

If you find any weird things happening with your UI or maybe textures seem a bit off, PLEASE TELL ME. I made this in a rush with little testing, so there are bound to be some mistakes.

iico's map pack
heeeyy look it's a little prettier now... dissolving my OCD lol

Building up a roleplaying world in my free time between projects and whenever I can't sleep.
I'd like some input on what kind of maps you'd like to explore and/or just personal opinions on what makes a map good.

Will have 5 maps 8 maps man who knows at this point, more if I have the extra time. Will also come with a preset for my character Xerxes, who will pop up in the maps from time to time.
Most maps already have set name. Maps are from a fantasy universe that I've been daydreaming about for a while. Brain dump folder on Drive: Terran Gaia [placeholder name]. Roughly translates to "People of the Earth/World."

Maps can be used for private roleplays but will ultimately be ruled by my own roleplay, which will eventually be made. soon. sometime.

STREAM [OFFLINE]
I may stream work on the maps from time to time. Check back later if you miss it :B

MAPS

An asterisk * and maroon text indicates which maps are currently being worked on. Striked name means it has been completed.

* Aelaemel: Largest map [~25000 ingame units]. Plains/mountains/major lake, rivers, and an oceanside. Mostly forest, though there are a lot of different kinds. Permanent fall and winter forests to the north and around mountains. It is largely inspired by Skyrim's and Cyrodiils' environment.
From placeholder readme:
      - Mountains, rivers, meadows, thickets, dens and caves, abandoned buildings, forgotten statues
      - [LANDMARK] Windy Pass. Cuts through the mountains to make an easily traversable path. Also leads to the [unfinished] province of
      - [LANDMARK] Mount Aldermere. Largest mountain within the map
      - [LANDMARK] The Old Tree, largest tree within the map
      - [LANDMARK] Lake Ardwich, largest [and only] lake
      - [LANDMARK] Somerwick's Bend, where normal/summer forest leads into the Fall forest
      - [LANDMARK] Hunter's Falls, leads to Lake Ardwich, most abundant in prey.
      - [LANDMARK] Achewind, the Northeastern mountains where snow constantly blankets the land
      - [LANDMARK] The Stargate, portal back to the Starway & Cape
      - Connections to all maps; all temples, ruins, caves and other provinces.
      - More undecided landmarks...
      - A variety of posed prey to hunt.
Norbarrow: Large tunnel system between maps. Forgotten ruin.
[unnamed province]: Marsh/swamp.
[unnamed cave]: ...
[unnamed province]: Tundra.
* [The Colosseum]: Arena for roleplay or general fights. Connected to the Temple of Myvdione, Goddess of War.
[Temple of Myvdione]: Another temple to a Goddess from the universe I've been creating. Leads to the Arena.
Randrarus: Desert.
Ralleru Ruins: SpoOoOooPy ruins. Connection between Norbarrow and Temple of Xerxes.
Whitesage Village-like? Also kind of a moot point? Dunno. Name taken from "Whiterun" from Skyrim.
* Temple of Xerxes: Temple to a God from the universe I've been creating. Edgy™. Has a bunch of skulls surrounding shrine [god of death/rebirth/??] and torture room. Very run-down and decrepit ruin. Has branching cave.
[temples]: will update this with more temples. Specific [small] temples to Gods of the world. See Religion page on Terran Gaia.
* The Starway: A "nexus." Connection to all provinces, excluding caves/temples/etc. Also has portals to pocket realms, such as Myvdione's realm and Xerxes' realm, that can be accessed through this map or the other maps. This is where you will enter Aelaemel and where you can go back to Cape.
ROLEPLAY
[Will be changed in the future.] Kind of strict, but necessary ...

      1. ALL MAPS ARE PUBLIC. You do not have permission to claim a part of a map as "your own" OUT OF CHARACTER.
      2. You may claim a part of a map IN CHARACTER. Please keep territorial disputes in character., yadda yadda
      3. Please keep IC drama out of OOC drama, yadda yadda
      4. Be respectful to OOC characters if you are IC, and vice versa, yadda yadda
      5. ANYONE, including roleplay groups, an IC character, or just a person wanting to explore, is welcome in this map.
** 8. Please follow the Feralheart Game Rules and Guidelines that have not been made inapplicable by previous rules. http://feral-heart.com/smf/index.php?topic=18317.0
** Even though this map is considered a "private" map, and may have it's own rules, it is still open to public download and thus must follow the Official Game Rules.
NOTES

Need low-poly candle mesh

Will update with more screenshots later.
Screenshots will be posted throughout the comments
uh.................................

Highly inspired by Skyrim's environment, Elder Scrolls series in general for the lore.
Will try to get to the same level of detail, will probably have to make the maps smaller to get all the details in or make them simpler, engine from mid 2000s doesn't handle all the objects very well....

Because the maps will have a high amount of detail and objects in them, the game may have a large frame drop and differing loading times depending on your processor. I have a decent processor and it normally drops from 60fps to 30, and freezes for a moment when loading.
It's HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you turn view distance to 0. Without it you would get 2 frames per second :B

Some more detailed areas of the game are VERY laggy when approached, yet aren't far away or with F3, hm..
It may take a long time to load into the maps, and your game may freeze for a small period of time. To avoid crashing, don't click anything when the maps are loading, and/or avoid some areas.

Game Discussion / what kind of roleplays do you like?
« on: December 31, 2014, 10:14:48 pm »
I wanna make my own but I have no clue what to do .u.

personally i like literate/semi-realistic lion prides/fox skulks/wolf packs/etc with map(s) and a website. also they have to have a plot too!!! like a prophecy from a medic foretells destruction or the group was once large and powerful but had to leave due to man/etc. realistic but not to the point where you absolutely have to act a certain way or have to give your characters only certain markings/colors, and literate where a minimum post is about 4 sentences, and not baby ones! ((this might be because i have higher standards and wow, the roleplay system has changed since i've been gone - what happened to all the threads in the groups section? x.x))
