A Little Forum Experiment {Finished and Updated}
« on: June 02, 2012, 03:36:55 pm »
EDIT:
I am currently clearing out this account to re-inhabit!
All other posts are being replaced by a small message to show I've 'deleted' them, but this is one of the few I like the remember.

They rest are sort of... ehhehehee.
So enjoy, and be happy I didn't delete this. ^^

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have installed a program called Collusion, and using it to run some forum privacy tests.

How does this work?
Well, it's simple. Collusion makes a spiderweb graph of all the sites that track you. I'm going to browse the forums here on FH like everyone on here does, and see what happens.

What do all the different circles mean?
Sites with a blue halo are sites that you have visited. Sites with a grey halo are sites tracking your information through the page that you are on.

So, let's begin!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just reset Collusion, and clicked on the forum home page. This is what collusion shows. Already 4 sites are tracking me!
(Notes: FeralHeart is supposed to be a Blue circle, but something's wrong with it right now.)
~~
I now click on News and Updates to view the June information. Just from those 2 clicks to get to the thread, the Collusion spiderweb has tripled in size!
~~
I click on home and then head to my profile. Nothing changes.
~~
Now, I head back into the forums and head to the FeralHeart media section, head to the videos section, and watch a couple. A couple new sites are added to Collusion.
~~
I click on the button to watch the video on Youtube. A couple new sites are added to Collusion again.
~~
I have been poking around the forums for about 20 minutes now. This is what Collusion shows now.
Crazy. That's all I have to say.
Please know that this thread isn't made to scare anyone. Nothing bad will happen to you, unless you post private information here on the Forums. That's when you're in trouble. Giving away your phone number, private email, address, social networking account, or other things could end up fatal. If you stop and think for a second before posting, you'll be perfectly fine. This thread was made to prove that point. The sites tracking FeralHeart.com are looking for that sort of information, and are harmless unless you give it to them.
If you want to try out Collusion, it's a Firefox add-on.
Thank you, and have a nice day. =P
Very interesting to see how various can be in regards to people's browsing. May have to play around with this myself.
That's very interesting, Lunar! o.O Who would've thought. What a useful add-on... it is sort of creepy how many sites can track you just by poking around in the forum for a bit. Everyone should always remember to never post private information online and this is just the sort of thread to prove it. xD Nice job.
Very interesting....*strokes beard* I wonder if Google Chrome has an app like this. I would be very curious to see what sites are tracking me.
