To Kyu's comment, I was just like you when I started going online. The first online game I played didn't really have roleplaying, but it was multiplayer with goals to accomplish. I started playing that about two years ago, and thats when I began learning chat speak. Everywhere, I kept seeing "BRB", "AFK", "TTYL", etc. I was like what the heck..? It took me awhile to realize what everyone was saying.
I remember the first time a friend put in BRB, I was just like "Um, okay.." And continued to talk to her. After a moment she said "Back," and I responded with "Oh, you left?"
Yeah, you should be able to figure out the rest xD
I asked about ten times at least what AFK meant until I finally commeted it to memory. Now I hate chat speak except the ones used when leaving, like BRB, AFK, and TTYL. Ones like "UR", "R", "U", and so on annoy me to no end.
