Game Discussion / Re: Is the game dying?
« on: August 15, 2020, 06:14:05 am »
From my own experience - i've tried multiple times to connect with the community here and genuinely get involved, though it always ends up failing whereas i'd end up not thinking about this game for another few months afterward. as a person who doesnt exactly feel like i've ever gotten out of my "newbie" stage, it felt somewhat like you had to have either veteran status or strong confidence to be able to have fun on the game, which i had neither of. other than that, considering feralheart is exclusively for hanging out or roleplaying, it gets boring *quick* especially if interaction is something that makes you nervous. then there's the ongoing mentions of drama, of course, which makes playing feel like an off experience. i found out about feralheart a long time ago, tried to join in 2016, and finally joined in 2017 and it still feels like you have to "qualify" in some way to fit in with everybody.

my point is though, that yeah, some people do most likely feel a bit driven away by the whole idea of it. I just feel like this game needs a push in the right direction because well, to be truthful, when a game hits rock bottom activity-wise it usually seems to be the end of it. if any popular users took interest in this game and decided to do something like speak about their characters more often, make videos, and overall spread the experience then more people would feel keen to say something along the lines of "oh hey, that game exists, i should play it!" and that might be the little click that saves this game's life. i, too, have noticed that the player count being below 60 is MUCH below average, as i used to come on and the lowest was about 90 players. i think that the solution is to bring the game up more outside of the site. bring it up to your friends, put something on youtube, obsess about it on tumblr, you get the gist. what i've been seeing a lot is more of "bring the (dwindling) community together" instead of "spread the word, expand the community" which seems to be a recipe for gradual failure. i've stopped seeing anything feralheart related out of the impressive title related community, and the only real reason ive had another look at this game is because i happened to be reminded of it on my own accord.

my point is; the community seems to be solely held together by people who dedicate themselves entirely to the game, and this game only. which is not a good thing if you want consistent activity. and i think that if more people who had mixed interests started to be more productive ingame and share it, people from outside of the community (who are involved with said person's other interests) would have the idea of coming IN to the community. it just seems to be a rare thing to me, and if activity should increase, i think that needs to be more common.

Characters / Character (re)introductions
« on: August 15, 2020, 02:05:17 am »
hey!! its been a while since i've ever touched these forums. i've made a few new characters and rewrote one of them, and im a bit desperate to show them off! i plan to roleplay with them at some point, if i ever get the chance to find a group they'd belong in(?)

Vinn
Vinn is a small Dutch rabbit. They spend most of their time frolicking in vast fields, and you'll often find them wherever the lushest of plants are growing. They're generally carefree in their demeanor, and they love making themself the center of attention! Unfortunately, Vinn's attitude towards life causes them to be quite an easy target. They have had quite a lot of close encounters with predators, and they haven't learned much from those experiences either.

(for clarification, these specific markings do not come from any official marking pack. i drew them for my own use!)

Kiba
Kiba is a female spotted hyena who is always found roaming the savannah alone. Most others find this to be a bit surprising, considering hyenas are social animals - right? Oddly enough, she hates the thought of ever being around another hyena and will actively avoid them. In her treks around the land, by rare instance, she'll socialize with other animals including herbivores. This doesn't necessarily make her a "good" hyena, though, but instead she considers herself a spectator. Kiba is generally nervous, and usually isn't the first to involve herself with others. She can get quite easily frustrated if others get a bit pushy with her - perhaps that's why she's so disgusted by other hyenas?

Snail
This creature who was unfortunately given the name "Snail" could possibly be the most frail-looking lioness you've ever seen. One word that's used in almost every conversation about her is "pathetic;" and that's not exactly incorrect, either. She is very fragile, and always seems to be cowering in the background while never fully inserting herself. Physically, she's much smaller than any other lion while also being visibly skinny. Snail rarely speaks, but when she does, she has a quite raspy voice. Other than the fact that she's considered "undesirable" for being ridiculously weak, one thing that seems to catch everyone off-guard including herself is her appearance consisting of unnaturally pale, white fur combined with a pair of bright blue eyes.

Clover
Clover is a female gazelle who is extremely conscious of her low-hanging position on the food chain. She is always on edge, and is very easily intimidated. The only places she would ever find comfort in are near bodies of water, where she spends most of her time at. Being near the water completely reshapes her mood. Not only does her jumpy attitude completely vanish, but it helps her bring out the more expressive sides of her personality. It's definitely not magic, but she just has a strong enthusiasm for water where some of her fondest memories were created. Though, since this is the only place she would ever let her guard down, it could quite possibly lead to her own downfall.

and that's about it, i might plan on adding more characters later as a bump! i've also gotta ask, is the roleplay community still even active? i've been extremely out of the loop and im not 100% sure where to start looking for a group as a starting point. group suggestions that fit my characters would also be appreciated, preferably multi-species ones if you happen to know of any!

@ everyone asking for a hyena model - i was too afraid to say it but dang you're right. the canine body is way too slim for that, hyenas have more of a round and stiff shape, not sure how to describe it. but who knows, someone might come out and rant about how it's too close to the canine model or something

so far my vote is still on lagomorphs, i'll fight for them. im kinda sad now that there's only 2 votes though :'D

aaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGHGH I LOVE THIS
coincidentally, i was trying to come up with a rabbit-like character yesterday (but wasn't getting much luck because, yknow, the feline model.) but i'm glad some attention is being put towards bunny chars!!! i praise you for this

i know this is about my third time posting in this thread because i am almost ALL FOR adding new animals, but... as i'm caught up in that excitement, now i'm starting to think about a few things. how would they really look in the game? who edited or made the feline/canine models, and would that same person be there to help the creation of future animals? if not, then would the "style" of the existing models have to be mimicked for that model? would the model be accurate to it's real-life counterpart or would it end up looking questionable? would the model's final product and animations satisfy or disappoint those who wanted it?

Personally I'd love to see a goat model, but that's a bit more niche compared to canines/felines so I'm a bit doubtful of that haha, unless they added just a general hooved animal model (but it's pretty difficult to accompany a lot of different animals that fall under that category)

A bird model seems pretty reasonable for a new addition, though. It's pretty hard to make a bird using the canine or feline models... the four legs and paws break the immersion a bit.

sorry for immediately +1ing you but i'm gonna have to second you on adding goats. second to my wish for bunnies is my wish for goats (or at least some deer-like model with an option for goat ears) !

If bunnies or hares got added i'd make one IMMEDIATELY and become obsessed with it. they're just.. i love them.
though, for the convenience of the entire game, one of the first things to add that would make the most significant change is admittedly hooved animals like bovines and equines. (either way, i'm still strongly rooting for lagomorph friends)

Game Discussion / Re: wanna talk about this update? (:
« on: July 10, 2019, 09:06:47 pm »
if we're going to be discussing the update, one thing i don't really understand is why it'd cause people to, y'know, quit or be driven away from the game. yes, there's a ton of bugs! but that's *going* to happen eventually no matter how much it was tested. they're already being addressed and fixed, if i'm not mistaken. i'd think that finding the actual source code would be a reason for people to stay and tag along, and for me, it's why i'm active right now. most of the bugs aren't even that significant and i don't see how they'd distract from the actual gameplay. most of the ones that are an actual bother can simply be fixed manually, too. feralheart looks like it has pretty much remained the same for years now, and i think sacrificing a few minor things are worth it for the sake of something new.
