Your Opinion on Cross-gender RPers?

Some people have issue with this fairly common practice, it seems. I got into a bit of a debate about it once when I was in Ficho Tunnel - and now I bring the question to you:

Do you have a problem with Guys that RP as Girls and Girls who RP as Guys?

Well, this may sound odd, but I've been kicked out of rps before because I was RPing as a male character. I'm a female, irl, you see. (That and my username is "DimensionGal".) They said it creeped them out that I was playing a dude when I was really a chick. This absolutely baffled me, as I like to play male characters. (But I have a pretty even male/female character roster.) I also know plenty of guys who masquerade as female characters.

Is this an issue for some of you?

  No way, I have no clue why people are so weird. It's not like you're seducing them only to reveal you're actually the same gender as them or something. So I don't see why they should have any issue with it, after all, it's a RP, a role play. and if the role you want to play happens to be the opposite gender than they need to learn to accept that! It's just like saying it's creepy to RP as lions and wolves when we are clearly human. RIDICULOUS.

People seriously have issues with this? O_o I think it's a stupid thing for people to get worked up over, because it's just like Kyu said, it's exactly the same as people rping as lions, wolves, dragons, gryphons and so on. They aren't those critters in real life. Just like how we aren't the other gender of said character in real life.

I bet people wouldn't complain if you told them JK Rowling is female and wrote the roles of male characters.

Lol most of my main OCs are male, I have 7 males, and only 3 females XD (and 1 "it"/genderless).

Agree with Kyugima. That is ridiculous. I rp as both male and female, and I never hear anything about cross-genderness xD

Completely ridiculous. I RP as males all the time and I'm female. People who are creeped out about it can go suck a toe.

I have the majority of male characters in my line-up and only three female characters(who I seldomly use). I can't honestly see me only playing as female characters though I have freaked a few people out when they find out I'm actually a girl. It is really so wrong that I like men dating but I'd rather play one on a game? It's fun, and entertaining to try and think like a man sometimes. Especially in a fake environment where I am allowed to use my imagination to make the characters background and personality to my liking. Cross gender role-plays are more fun, get to see how other's view the the gender they are playing as. :3

It's ridiculous for people to freak out about something like this. We're using our imagination. Freaking out about people role playing characters that are the opposite gender of their real self is like telling book authors that they can't write characters that are the opposite gender of themselves.

My main character is a male because the things he does makes more sense than if he did it as a girl. I like my guy characters and I find it more fun to play as them. When I play a girl character, they have no shades of personality, and it makes them boring. XD

I was in a group RP on a website that closed down a few years ago. I played all the male characters, and no one had a problem with it. XD
