'cause someone had to do it.
Inspired by Dr.Twisted's wonderful guide to demons, I've noticed that the other side of the spectrum has quite a few problems as well, and being the angelology nerd I am, decided to make a guide.
Before starting, I'm going to leave a disclamer:
This is a guide for Abarhamic angels.
Anything else is fair game, (fandom, other religions, ext.) This isn't for them.
(Abarhamic religions are Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. They'll all be considered equily accurate for this guide.)

Table of contents
Quick fixes to common problems
Apperance
Behavior and purpose
Hiarchy
Names

So, first off, we're going to take a look at the typical Feral Heart angel.

Yeah.
Making this character nearly killed me.

So, the most glaring problems here:
1. The name. We'll go into 'proper' angel names later, but for the love of well, angels, why are they all named Sky? Other common names include Skye, Cristal, Blu, and Jewel. None of these are anything close to what angels are traditionaly named. And it's never capitolized.

2. Feral Heart will have you belive all angels are female.
I can't even begin to go into how wrong this is. If anything, they're mostly or all male, or more likely genderless. Occurances of 'female' angels are noteworthy and tend to be singled out in historical texts, so we can assume they're quite rare if they exist at all. This is also consistant with Medival socity's (where most texts on angels come from) veiws on women, so it makes sense that there'd be less of them because of historical sexism.

3. Angel is always spelt angle. Always.

4. Bat wings. For some reason, most angels I see have bat wings. Now, this isn't nessisarily wrong, as no one really knows what angels looks like (certinly not what we usually think, they are not models nor babies) and I can understand doing it for the purpose of individuality, but it just doesn't really make sense. Unless you've got a fallen angel (which are something we'll get into later), there's a pretty good chance you should go with feather wings.

5. White body, cyan Celtic markings. This isn't bad in itself, but there are more colors you could go with. Honestly, if we look at some art of Islamic angels that I grabbed from wikipedia:

They're fairly rainbow-y, actually. So go ahead and vary your colors. It's also worth considering if this is a dog-or-wolf angel or a humanoid angel made on the dog model. For the purpose of this tutorial, we'll be asumming the former.

6. Bright blue eyes and bright pink noses. This isn't so much something to do with angels as it is an overused design in general, and honestly, it just looks noob-ish. I'd stay away from that, unless it really, really works woth your color scheme.

7. Eyecover manes. Again, not really a problem as so much just overused. I've actually never seen an angel (aside from my own) with something else.

So, if you're thinking "then what do they look like?" read on!

Section Two: Apperance
So, before I go into this, it's worth noting that angels' apperances vary heavily, especially accourding to their rank or position.
Take a look at these:

Yes, that last one is one angel.
So, they can look really, really weird, basically.

Because of this, there's no one way to make an angel. But some common themes are that:

1. They're people with wings
2. They're anything but people with wings
3. They're very colorless
4. They're very colorful

See what I'm getting at, here? There's no right or wrong way to make an angel, but please, please don't do the white and cyan thing.

Oh, and mass markings and object packs are your friends. Just make sure you stick to things that would be applicable to their rank.

Game Help / Mane fix code for presets not working
« on: June 06, 2015, 10:53:27 pm »
Exactly what it says on the can.
So, it works to fix the weird transparency thing on canines, but it does nothing on felines. Here's a screeny WITH the code "fixed":

As you can see, the glitch is still there.

Here's the coding I'm using, if anyone could help me find the problem:
Code: [Select]
material preset_7_maneMat
{
        technique
        {
                pass
                {
                        cull_hardware none
                        cull_software none
                        alpha_rejection greater_equal 128
                        texture_unit
                        {
                                texture preset_7mane.png
                        }
                }
        }
}
Thanks to anyone who can help!

as the title states, I'm looking for northern themed meshes. (think NW coast, Brittish Colubia area)
I've been working on a map based off the Great Bear Rainforest, but I've gotten stuck on some specific things

I'd love anything you guys think would be useful, but I'm really, really looking for these:
ravens
boats
old houses
totem poles
bears
spirit bears
eagles

thanks to anyone who can find these c:

Presets & Markings / Anahel's preset attempt things
« on: June 01, 2015, 01:30:08 am »
Well, I tried this again. Figured I'd just stick 'em all in one thread instead of making a new one every time. Anyway, without further ado, I give you my significantly-better-than-last-time presets.

This preset is for my Unchained girl, a border collie named Maggie. Used CoyoteMange's fur textures, bicolor eyes script, and a multicolor mane to match her markings

This is Bartholomew, my deer-wolf-spirit thing. He reminds me a bit of the Jersey Devil, but beyond that I have no idea what he is. Again, using CoyoteMange's fur texture, Legendary Items' antlers, and photographed in the Magnificent Forest map, which is here. The face texture is double sided.

This is my second attempt at a demon, this one being Mammon. CoyoteMange's fur textures, Legendary Items' horns, photographed in Kelpie's Marsh, which is downloadable here. This one's got double sided everything, his gold eye has a glow effect, and the tail was done through transparency.

I was also running a lighting mod, which is why some of the screenshots are so dark.
Anyway, that's it for now. Any critiques?

Presets & Markings / First preset yay
« on: May 20, 2015, 06:58:22 am »
Well, this is my first post. Whoops. Anyway, I recently (read:today) rediscovered this game after quitting in around 2012 (I was one of the 2011 sign-ups, so I doubt anyone would remember me. Too old, and I wasn't really popular anyways)

But as anyone who was on in 2011 would know, demons used to be a lot more common. Like, a lot. Everywhere. Now, coming back to the game years later, I was disapointed to find they were all gone. So I made a character, named him Lucifer, and attempted to make him as biblically (/Paradise Lost for the holes) acurate as possible because I'm a nerd who gets overexited about demon/angelology. (I mean Anahel is litterally "angel who rules the third Heaven" and the fact that I know that off the top of my head is kinda sad)

Anyways, he grew on me, so I made him a preset. First preset (since ones I made when I was around 11, and oh lord they were bad) ever!

I added wounds where his wings would have been. Orginally, I was going to add torn up looking actual wings using transparency, but then I realized they'd just look bulky and ugly to anyone without the preset.

Snake tounge because symoblism.

I guess I'll add a download, becuase he's rapidly becoming my main character: here

Oh, and the fur texture I used is here, if you'd like it. And he's got the horns from the Pawsome Items pack, just in case anyone hasn't seen it before.

Any critiquies? I'm sure I'll revise it eventually (as soon as I find a way to get a higher definition on the feather textures, actually/when I stop being lazy) and I'd love another opinion on it.
