What Are Some Good Video Recording/Editing Programs?
« on: March 09, 2016, 03:49:35 am »
So sorry if this is in the wrong place, or if this has already been made!

Little info on this:
My sister wants to make speedpaints, but doesn't know any programs for recording that lasts more than ten minutes and is free. And she needs an editing program that she can use (That is also free!).
If some of the floofs here could help her out, I'd be happy!

And again, so sorry if this is in the wrong place/has already been discussed.

Thanks, guys! ?

I've done a bit of small research for you, and found a software called SmartPixel, it appears to be a video recording and editing software; so hopefully this'll be good enough. c:

Some programs I find are common are HyperCam (I think it's called that? Not sure if it lasts more than ten minutes...) and Bandicam (Not sure if you can speed anything up with it, but it lasts ten minutes and I use it, at least. It's free.)

If you can't find anything that lasts more than ten minutes, I think you can speed it up a lot with HyperCam though. Speedpainters usually use HyperCam and do that, I believe.

Editing software, I'm not sure about... I think Shurtle might've suggested something nice, I'm just adding what I know about.

If your not using Windows 10, you should have Windows Movie Maker, which is free and can speed things up. I've used it before, not the best but it's there.

For programs, I recommend HyperCam, not sure how long it lasts, but you can use it even after the trial.

If you are a bit savvy with computers and software(If not there's always tutorials to take help of) I'd highly recommend OBS(Open broadcaster Software). It will not bother you with watermarks or ask you to upgrade to full version or anything. It has it's kinks still but it vastly superior to most recording software if you know how to use it. Not only does it let you stream to various sites like twitch or hitbox, but it also let's you make plain local recordings to your HDD. I personally use it to make let's plays and what not.

Completely free and quite heavy on functions for it. Only downside is like any other recording software it tends to tax your CPU a lot depending on what you have and what of settings you run but if you spend some time into this software it's totally worth your time.

As for editing I cannot really recommend anything free unless it's a trial for something like Adobe Premiere or Sony vegas. When I started getting into video editing i quickly ditched windwows movie maker and tried to make my way onto more heavy duty stuff right away that I'd be able to use long into the future, Sony Vegas is my daily driver when it comes to editing videos. I know not everyone has money in their pockets to throw on a legit copy but it has never stopped people in the past to find work-arounds.

Good luck in general.

I use OBS, like Red. I have it connected to Picarto.tv to stream art, but it also records locally. Picarto provides a nice tutorial to set it up.

For speedpaints, you don't really need any advanced editing program. All I use is WMM because you literally just up the video speed and add some music, cutting out parts of the video if you need to.
