I've been working on a species of my own so here is a guide! It has examples of what they'll look like as well. They will most likely be Open Species.

wow! i love the way you do the fur, it makes them look so soft! and i absolutely adore the character you made for your species, i've got a bit of a soft spot for light pastel-y colours! fantastic work! <3
