Fate is a shifter. Shifters are humans with the unique ability to transform into any living animal that they've seen (the forms they can take range across all species of living animals). There is no limit for how long they can stay in this form, but around the fool's moon -the night's on which the moon is almost full but not quite complete- they are forced to 'shift' into some form of animal, and usually it's the one they identify with most. It is also possible for them to change into another animal form when already shifted. Normally, Shifters can only transform into other animals, but under certain circumstances, they can turn into something far more sinister. These Shifters are called Skinwalkers, and they have the ability to take the shape of another human being. To accomplish this though, a Shifter must first take the life of another human, and this can mean by accident or by murder. Fate however is not a Skinwalker, they are very rare and almost feared.
Fate's default animal is a wolf. When he shifts the wolf is of silver pelt with pale amber eyes.
Shifters can sometimes be mistaken for werewolves, and Fate choose a wolf as his default animal to increase this confusion because Shifters are often disliked. There aren't many of them out there, and even less communities of them, but there are a few. Werewolf packs in particular despise Shifters, seeing them as a 'lesser species' and will hunt them out of their packs territory if they're found out. Despite this, Fate still identifies deeply with wolves and respects the animal itself, if not so much werewolves.
As a human, Fate is known best in the small town in which he lives for his easy going if reclusive attitude and for the faded leather jacket he always wears. Fate works hard and gets little in return, but he doesn't mind. He lives in a small town Bar-tending at one of the few restaurants in the area and does a rather good job at it too. It's because of this that the normally superstitious and unwelcoming townsfolk warmed up to Fate a little faster than they would most outsiders, and as he didn't cause any trouble, the village let him be.
Fate takes the occasional if not rare smoke out in the dark alleyways just before dawn after his shift is over and before he heads home to his small (but not uncomfortably so) flat. He plays guitar, soft and gentle songs that the early risers of the town can sometimes hear in the morning before Fate finally goes to sleep until the late afternoon.

Usually it's faces of people he knew, lovers, creatures from nightmares and dreams alike, and mostly just abstract thoughts, all transferred into images through his artwork. He posts the ones he likes the best along his walls and tosses the rest, and the old, never getting sentimental over material stuff.
Fate is laid back, easy going sort of guy who doesn't mind working hard just to get by, and loves the little times between work and sleep when he can just do what he likes. He's fine living on his own and intends to keep it that way.
He's never really expected a long term relationship, but he's always open for short term ones as long as his partner understands that going in. Orientation wise, he'll date men and women alike. He prefers men, but is very good about keeping those sorts of relationships quiet. He'll normally take on the dominant role in a relationship but can easily change to submissive if his partner feels uncomfortable, but overall he enjoys a more mutual sort of relationship if it's long lasting. However Fate is more comfortable with a shorter relationship, and it's often him that breaks it off. Mostly, this is because he cherishes living alone. He likes the quiet and solitude, and frankly dislikes the idea of being bound down by one person. He'd never sink as low as having multiple partners at once though, and if he's asked out while 'together' with another person, he will refuse the offer flat out.
If he could find that 'one' that might change his mind about it, they'd have to be someone very special, and it's often hard to get to know Fate. He's a recluse when he has time to be on his own, and as he's often awake at odd hours, it's hard to catch him.
There's also the problem of Fate being a shifter. It's a secret he works very hard to keep, and hasn't shared it with anyone. He really does like to shift, and when he finds some free time, he'll go off into the forest and just shift into whatever he feels like. Normally it's his wolf, but he can also shift into a crow, stag, cat, white bull, black stallion and a rattler snake. (He can turn into a few other staple animals as well, but these are his favorites, and he's always looking for interesting animals to add to his collection)
Appearance wise, he's a bit taller than the average male for 21 and has a lean build with fair skin, auburn eyes and silver-blond hair. He has a simple tattoo below his right eye, and a few piercings on his ear. Fate normally wears black or dark colours, along with a faded leather jacket that he loves.
Not a whole lot is known about his childhood. He came to the village when he was 19 and has stayed there quietly ever since. He doesn't have many friends, just a few people that will often ask to stay over at his place for a night or two when he's done work. They're the closest thing to 'friends' that Fate has, but even to them he still remains a mystery.
