News Archives / Re: Moderator Free October
« on: September 25, 2018, 02:22:58 am »
I want to precede this note by stating that I happened upon this update to the game by chance. I watch the FH art group on DA, and noticed the announcement made in regards to this proposed idea.

First off, I’d like to recommend that other members of the game and forum not insult or draw any negativity towards Razmirz for this concept he introduced. In spite of personal emotions and opinions held towards this entire ordeal, please keep in mind that he is and has been the server master of the game for years upon years. Even before Feralheart began, his support has kept this community running for longer than most of anyone can even remember. I do not support this idea, but I hate to see petty insults and further aggression thrown around, those of which only perpetuate bad vibes and dramatic circumstances that can otherwise be avoided if this were regarded with level heads and thoughtful, respectful conversation. In other words, keep it mature and constructive if you can.

With that being said, I would like to request the same to be presented to the Feralheart community and the working moderation staff from Razmirz himself. I - along with the community I’m sure - am not yet aware of what instigated this decision. Everything I’ve picked up is from reading this announcement and studying the responses of the staff and the players. If I’m understanding this situation correctly, Razmirz wishes to rid the game of the moderation staff for a month as some sort of trial - a conclusion which he came to without consulting the rest of the staff. While the concept could be presented and judged externally on its own if this were an isolated predicament, the latter part of that observation is what concerns me. From the eyes of the outside community, Razmirz is a prevalent member of the staff team. Maybe not as social or interactive as others, but he is the reason this game is running. Therefore, having made such a drastic decision without consent from the rest of the staff team is a questionable move at best. As such, I can only imagine there’s some sort of personal rift that the rest of the community is suffering for, unbeknownst to them.

For a game such as Feralheart, communication between the staff and the players is key. Participation, activity, open-mindedness and open words -- that’s what keeps everything knit together. That is what has kept the game running for so long - or at least, that’s what I’ve perceived as an outsider looking in for the past several years. The lack of communication from arguably the most significant and relied upon member of the staff team is concerning, no matter how you look at it. The discourse brought on as the aftermath of this proposal has been handled rather well by the rest of the staff, and I’d like to give them my respect and commendation to every one of them, solely for the fact that they are reaching out to the players, expressing their feelings over this, and working for hours upon hours of well earned personal time to settle the panic that arose moments after this announcement dropped.

So with that, I’d like to ask Raz something that I’m certain is on everyone’s minds: why make this decision? Is there a legitimate reason? You cannot rely on an explanation such as, ‘It’s what LKD wanted’. After nearly 8 years of this game being live and him being absent, if LKD’s wishes were truly what motivated you, you would have done something much, much sooner. I also call this argument into question; as someone who became a mod at the beginning of Fearlheart, I’m certain LKD had other mods in mind at the time before things changed up. I cannot say for sure, but I’m not about to believe he was truly going to rely on no mods, period. Regardless, I can only assume there’s something more personal that’s driving you to do this. It's not a trial just to test the waters, either. You’re smart; surely you know how this was going to be perceived by everyone - players and staff alike. There’s no way this would be taken seriously or positively by anyone - not even yourself.

As for the decision to remove moderators, even for as little as a month: I don’t believe it’s a good OR interesting concept, no. I have no read on the community these days, but with anything on the internet you can’t actually expect self-moderation and bans dispensed with blocking to go over well. Perhaps with a new community comprised of fewer, trusted, more mature members, it could work. But Feralheart has been going for ages, and changing the moderation mechanic so drastically on a whim for an entire month would never, ever work out well. Sure, it’s functional, but barely. It shows disregard for the community itself to take away the very people working to provide a kind and open atmosphere and fighting to keep it safe. It shows disregard for your moderation staff to make this decision that affects the role that they have willfully volunteered for.

I no longer work for or play this game actively, so perhaps what I’m saying doesn’t have much weight. However, as the old co-administrator for this community, as well as a contributor to the creation of the game itself, I want the Feralheart moderation staff and the game community to know that I disagree with this. I believe this choice reflects badly on the server master and the game itself. I sympathize with the staff for having to clean up the mess dumped in front of them without warning. I apologize as a former administrator to the members who are caught in the crossfire.

Razmirz, I ask that you think about this further before actually taking action. I truly have no idea if my words - or anyone else's, player and staff aline - will actually reach you. This decision, if driven by personal feelings, is irrational. It’s not right, and I think you know that. I ask, before anything else, that you communicate with the staff - for the good of this game that you have worked so hard to maintain for years. Do you really want it all to end up being for nothing? If you wish to no longer run the server, could you not consider more mature and reasonable routes of action?

Feralheart moderation staff, I would recommend that you begin looking into alternatives. Feralheart’s community is strong and kind, and so are you. If this server becomes unreliable, try to find another server. Take this into your own hands if the time comes. I wouldn’t want anyone to give up hope on Razmirz completely, but the players of your game have made it clear that they do not like this decision, and they want to keep playing the game as it is. Be prepared to protect what’s at stake.

All in all, I truly hope that everything works out in the end. I don’t believe this will be the end of Feralheart. This is a huge bump in the road, but as I’ve said: this community is strong. It may take time to get things going more solidly again after such a scare, but hang in there.

Leaving / Taking a Break
« on: September 14, 2013, 05:33:10 pm »
Long story short, I'm leaving FH for a little bit. As you can probably tell, I've been off of the game and forum for quite some time, only hopping on every now and then. It's not necessarily that I've lost interest, no... I still love Feralheart. I guess I just kinda want there to be an update. I'm getting a bit bored with handling some of the things and I just need a break from it - like, an official break from it - to sort of clear my head and get my life together.

I don't really have an excuse for this past summer, but lately these past weeks I've been surprisingly occupied with college and stuff. I find myself worn out every day when I come home to the point where I just don't want to do anything but sit on tumblr all day, or draw, or watch shows. I guess I'm trying to say I don't really have the energy nor the motivation for FH right now.

I don't want to leave permanently like I had planned a few months ago. Not yet. I'm still attached to FH in both a personal and emotional way. I'm not ready to let go of it. I just need to sort of give it a rest for a little bit.

I'm not really saying I'm gonna be completely OFF of FH, by the way. For example, I plan to stop by for a little bit of roleplay on FHORD. But I can't handle my position in the staff right now, or reports or anything, and it'd be irresponsible of me to keep my title while ignoring the game and my own job.

Keep in mind I'm still around to help run the FH Tumblr account as well as the DA Group. I WILL NOT be handling any FH advice or reports or anything anymore for now, however, so please do NOT ask me. I will hardly even be going on this Forum, as well, so don't be upset when I don't respond to you here. I'm providing my sites here for you to keep in contact with me, NOT ask me about FH related things. Please respect this.

Thanks for reading, you guys. See you around <3

Just want to warn in advance, please don't mention specific users on this thread. You all may discuss and share stories but please no direct flaming of any user in the game or on the forum.

News Archives / Re: RIP General
« on: June 17, 2013, 07:54:55 pm »
Before anyone goes on about how this is unfair or unnecessary, please be a bit more open minded and considerate towards your fellow members as well as your staff team.

The primary use of General chat is to be able to roleplay without having to concern yourselves and your roleplay group with the confines of the local area limit. Since General can be read as one from any point in the map, it's good to be able to see what everyone is saying from any point. However, given that it's initially best for roleplay, that would tend to render it useless in public maps, as roleplay is not permitted in public maps in General, is it not?

I personally think this is a wonderful choice for a few reasons, along with what I stated above. Being limited to local chat only would encourage users to be more social throughout the game and encourage them to do more than just sit in one place and spout any sort of chat within General and just pick up any conversations that they can join. It helps give users something to do while being a lot more interactive all the while. It can give the feeling of being more "involved" with the game and community. Almost more "realistic" if you want to put it in a cheesy way.

The random bouts of conversation, most of which would turn up unnecessary, sometimes hurtful and upsetting, and just plain annoying, that would spam everywhere in General chat were significant enough for us to want to make a change. Most users can probably use the excuse, "just turn off General chat using the ingame check box, problem solved". While that, yes, is always a solution, it isn't always preferred. Some users could be wanting to advertise through General chat or look for advertisements in order to join roleplays. Having users tell them to just leave General chat would never really be considered a win-win solution.

Yes, having General chat gone can rid of the most effective method of advertising in the game, but it also introduces so many more key points that can no doubt be adjusted in due time. However keeping General, while some of us may have thought it to, also, adjust in due time, did not happen. It just would get worse.

I hope you guys understand the reasoning behind removing General chat and I look forward to any feedback.

I didn't even think this was a thing Oo I think I have more male characters than female characters, actually. There's no issue with it at all!

Updates For March

Hello, everyone! It’s just that time for this month’s news and updates thread for all you floofs out there. Has everyone’s year been going well? It seems pretty chilly in most places, but if you guys don’t like that sort of thing, don’t worry! Spring is on its way, and times will get warmer before you know it. In any case, here’s all you need to know about the happenings of the past few weeks here on Feralheart.

Board & Site Changes
Nothing major has gone on much this past month in regards to the site. One thing to mention, however, is a heads-up over at our Off Topic Discussion Board. It’s come to the attention of the staff that several of the threads created here are not following the guidelines formerly provided. Borderline threads are posted, and others eventually head off of the original topic of discussion and into chat threads. To make things a bit more organized, I have written up an updated Off Topic Rules Thread that will go into action immediately.

Please, floofs, remember to read every rule thread for every board provided to you on the forum so we don’t have messy boards and several threads to have to hunt down.

Events & kewl sturf

We’ve received the winners for the MOTS: Winter at last! Let’s hear it for…

LordSuragaha, BigBangTheory, and DoctorFlob!

Good job to all those who had been nominated, and congratulations to the winners! Keep an eye out for the MOTS: Spring thread!

The first official Preset Contest of the year is taking place. The theme is realistic animals. Everyone, don’t forget to keep an eye on the Monthly Preset Contest every now and then; anyone can enter, and even if you just wanna stop by to check out the cool creations, that’s always fun as well! The board is here.

Side Note
Red has already mentioned this in its own dedicated thread, but I figured I’d go ahead and point it out here because it is a very important issue.

Several people have been gaining access to “public accounts” given to them by websites or friends. When you log into an account, it ties you to that account and every account tied to it accordingly. So, if you log in and your friend logs in, you both are connected by that account. Therefore, if one of the tied accounts is banned, you will be banned as well.
Several users who have connected to these banned accounts have been tied to it already, and once registration opens, their new account is going to be banned. Moderators and Administrators can not remove this ban.

You are responsible for YOUR OWN account. So, do not, I repeat, do not use the accounts of others.

On another note, this is a less important problem but we still believe it’d be worth mentioning. When you have a report to give to a Moderator or Administrator, be sure to send it to us here on the website. Some don’t tend to really care if they handle reports outside of this website and game, but others, such as myself, find it a little irritating to have received reports on sites completely unrelated to Feralheart (take DeviantART for example). I just want to mention that, unless a Moderator or Administrator gives this information and allows you to do so, please direct all reports and concerns regarding Feralheart to their inboxes here on the website, and nowhere else. Along with this, do not grow irritated if a Moderator refuses to accept your report elsewhere. Those are our own personal sites and we have the freedom to list whatever guidelines we chose. We appreciate it!

If you have any concerns on how to report, please check this thread.

Thank you for reading! Delay out.

Updates For February

We say hello to the beginning of yet another year here on Feralheart. I’d like to give a shout out to all of you awesome users who have stuck with us since the opening of our game, and a welcome to all you other users who have recently joined us. I’m glad for each and every one of you to be a part of our community and to be with us for our third January on Feralheart.

As always, another month means another news update. Here’s all of the stuff that went down these past few weeks.

Board & Site Changes
Little bit a go the staff did a bit of organizing in our Roleplay boards, primarily the Open Roleplay board. It has been sorted a bit, and the title has been changed to Free For All Roleplay. Be sure, as you guys are browsing and using this board, that you follow the roleplay guidelines and do not post threads where they do not need to be. Enjoy using these roleplay areas on the forum!

Other than this there have not been any major site changes this month. Keep an eye out for updates on this in the future coming weeks, though.

Events & kewl sturf

We have quite an update on events and such for our community here this month. We always try to give you guys something to do and it’s always a pleasure to see so many people participate! Here’s a bit of a heads up on what went down these past weeks.

As you know, last month we held our very first Feralheart Art Contest. Well, we’ve finally got the results in. Before hand I’d like to say thanks to every one to entered; every judge enjoyed seeing your beautiful original artwork created for this contest. The variety in styles and creativity in your drawings was very lovely to see.

Our winners for the Feralheart Art Contest were none other than…

Tearless, Claritza, and Nemena!

Congrats, you lot!

As well as the art contest, we held our Finalist round for the Monthly Preset Contest for the year 2012 during the months December and January. I personally was very glad to see every entry from our esteemed finalists, and it was indeed a hard choice for all of us.

Slydragon for third, Tearless for second,

and the first place winner and now titled Preset Maker of the Year 2012 is none other than

Goldchocobo

Congratulations to every one of you!
As some of you know, I was the founder and head judge of the MPC. But as my life is so busy these days, and other personal reasons, I am retiring from my spot, and passing it onto judges Ramine and Crin.

You can find information and participate in the Monthly Preset Contest board here.

Most of you who participated in the Christmas Party we held know about the Gift Hunt that took place at the time as well. Well, lazy ol’ Delay finally got off her butt and tallied down everyone who managed to find every gift. And those people are…

Rapid, WolfKate, Shadow, Nightfang1, Hawkpath7, and PrettyReckless.

Congrats! I want to give you guys a bit more of a reward to finding everything, so I’m going to give you guys a lineart headshot of a character of your choice.

Our Winter MOTS is now open for voting. We look forward to lots of participation from you guys, and we can’t wait to see who wins!

You can find the board here to vote.

Side Note
As some of you may have noticed, head admin Redlinelies has not been as active for the past couple of weeks. He has got his internet going and should be returning any time soon now, but for the moment being, please be sure to fire any questions or concerns at other staff members in his place, as he still won’t be able to answer much for a little while.

This concludes the news thread for this month. I look forward to another great year here on Feralheart, with my friends and this community.

Thanks for reading! Delay out.

Can you be a bit more specific about what your issue is here?

Seeing as though this revolves primarily around Feralheart screenshots, this post needs to be in our Screenshots board.

Please ensure you double check where you are posting. This may be an advertising board, but it is for Roleplaying.
