Um... I use gimp regularly too and it sometimes does that while loading the fonts for me. Thats nothing that I would call unexpected, all I would do is restart the program, or close other processes to help it along. I wouldn't worry if it happens again, as in the loading screen it says something like "Fonts (This may take a while)." It may have some trouble during that part, but if you wait a minute while it struggles through, or restart the program if it crashes, it should still work. Reinstalling the program seems unnecessary unless it was a separate issue.
