[Un]Popular Character Genders - Ingame
« on: August 20, 2015, 09:41:40 pm »
You know how in games, people put "G" for girl (or F for Female) and "B" for boy (Or M for Male)?
Those are probably the most popular genders people give to their characters.
Well, this thread is slightly different.

Are there any characters you've seen or create that WASN'T male or female, but another gender that wasn't as well known?
My newest character, Finni (reference to Finnian's nickname: Finny which can be spelt as Finni too), is Agendered.

Like WarKat said before me, I don't see too many characters that are agender / genderless. Even if they are, I never truly see it in tag form. It seems there are quite a lot of genders to choose from, most of which are not even heard of. I feel as though one of the reasons as to why someone's character is a male or female is because those are the most common genders and simple to understand. Genders such as androgynous, trans, cis, gender fluid, etc. can be a bit confusing at first to those who don't necessarily understand those terms. It would take a bit of research to apply those traits to your or someone else's character in order to gain a somewhat accurate and natural interaction ICly.

As for creations, I do have one character that is androgynous.

I never have seen any characters that are in the non-binary gender spectrum. This is probably because gender is a social construct made by humans, and animals pretty much only care about the sex of the individual (male, female, intersex probably). Plus, not everyone knows about non-binary genders. This doesn't mean you can make a genderqueer dog, a character creator has the freedom to do anything with their character as long as it doesn't become a "Mary Sue".

The only non-binary gender I have seen on a character in-game was genderless, and that's often used for mythical-related characters.

I have never seen anyone that has no gender before on Feral Heart, tbh I might make one after reading this.
It'll be something new.

I haven't seen too many genderless characters myself, to be honest. I've seen a few robot characters that were considered genderless, since they are machines and not biological living things. Would robot characters count I guess?

Robotic characters technically would count, yes.
Robotic creatures don't have genders but will be called a certain gender by fans, creator, etc.
(Foxy = Genderless but is called male)

Seems like I'm not the only one who noticed this then.
They seem to be getting more popular as of recent times.

I usually have tags ticked off but come to think about it... I probably have.
And I have nothing against it whatsoever, I think it's awesome that people are/have been comfortable enough and confident to be themselves here.
Even if it is just their 'character' that they are getting into - I support it.

yep, defo not agender for sure!! i think all genders besides male/female aren't that popular? i'd say thats from a lack of knowledge and younger players, tbh.
most of my characters are agender, though. i can just relate better to them. ^^l
