If you do have the latest patch, this is somewhat of a common occurrence when the most populated map, The Grounds, is full. It can make it so it's tricky to enter. Did you try either the Seaside Grove portal or the Cape portal? If you are able to enter the Cape or Seaside but not the Grounds, that indicates that it is a problem with the Grounds and not a server issue.
