My favorite animal (well, second favorite) is an okapi. I'm famous at school because once I talked about it then everyone knew what it was.



It's a shy rainforest dwelling animal related to giraffes.

I know this is going to seem like a weird choice for this topic, but I've been giving this some thought lately...

Antelope and deer are pretty underrated, unpopular, and misunderstood. They're often seen as just being 'dumb prey animals' for the much-loved cute 'n' furry carnivores like wolves and tigers, when in reality, they can be just as beautiful, majestic, and tough as any leopard or wolf.

I mean, look at them!

And I'm giving a special mention for deer. These guys are severely unerdestimated animals. People see a deer and think, "Awww how cute, it's Bambi! I wonder if he'll let me pet him." If you see a deer in the wild, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS BEAUTIFUL DO NOT TRY TO PET IT, unless you want to go home with a broken pelvis. They may look pretty and fragile (and they typically choose to run before they choose to fight), but if you catch them in a bad mood or have them cornered (or in the case of does, if you get too close to their fawns), they will beat the living daylights out of you.

I'd say almost any type of bug, but a few are rather cute, I personally love inchworms <3
However some bugs, such as maggots, flies, and mosquitoes are generally /very/ disliked among humans. I'd guess this would stem from the fact that maggots and flies constantly surround dead or decaying things. In movies and shows, whenever you come across a dead body they often have flies buzzing around the carcass and maggots falling from rotted flesh. Not a good image and it really leaves a mark for anyone who hadn't encountered the animals before. Mosquitoes are known disease spreaders and they are very annoying, not to mention they take blood and leave itchy marks over our bodies, instantly giving them a bad name and rightly so. The discovery of Malaria, which has been known to also come from mosquitoes has also increased the vast dislike of these bugs. Leeches are another big one for me and a lot of people. Anyone who has been bitten by a leech and was forced to rip it off because no salt was around will probably agree that these slimy creatures are highly dis-likable. I'd say pretty much any bug that is known to bite and sting isn't liked in general. Honey bees are often thought of as cute and cuddly because of their fuzzy bodies, but an angry bee swarm can be deadly at times.
I think that there should be caution among people who find dangerous animals cute and likeable. They may seem like they are 'misunderstood' but in the end we have to remember that they are wild animals and can very easily hurt us if we aren't careful. This goes particularly for people who keep exotic wild animals (like tigers, lions and big cats, along with big snakes and other large 'wild' animals) as pets in their backyard. Not only is it unethical, but it's dangerous as well. Sorry if I went a bit off topic ;u; I thought it might be interesting to bring up popular animals that are misunderstood as well. On FH, for example, I'm guessing a lot of people adore wolves and lions, but we should never forget that if met with these animals in the wild, they probably wouldn't hesitate to attack, and I think that's important to remember.

Usually when people mention an animal as being 'misunderstood', they often mean that the animal is made out to be worse/more dangerous than it really is. But being 'misunderstood' can also mean that the animal is made out to be less dangerous than it really is. Like how when people own pet chimpanzees or pet wolves. Chimps may look like cute hairy little people, and wolves may look like cute 'n' cuddly doggies, but they are wild animals, and unlike domesticated animals like dogs or sheep, they do not depend on humans to survive, and they are not keen on taking orders from creatures that are not only physically weaker than them, but also edible.

Oh the movie industry. Why you mislead peers? -and another thing while going into topic. People can keep animals and confine them in unsightly places and (more or less) can lead into hoarding/addiction. Even while keeping exotic pets, if you are going to keep them (and put people and yourself in danger) at least give them some room or don't let them breed with each other unless you have a lot of area. I don't understand the porpose of keeping them, what's wild is wild. You can't domesticate ALL animals (Most animals are oppotunistic) and they will kill you if they ever had a chance. Even with pets, you can't entirely convert them to your needs.

Anywho, some people should at least do SOME research about said animal for whatever purpose they'll be up to. Nothing wrong with looking at some books to get a better understanding of anything.

The Tasmanian Devil. They may look like sweety hearts that you could cuddle, but if you get near one of these... You will regret it. These animals are Unpopular, and Misunderstood, people thinking there sweet little doggies. They are rather small, but have the spirit of a wolf, and will not likely back down. Steve Backshall (A guy of Deadly 60 Who travels around finding animals.) saw a Tasmanian Devil, and it darted straight towards him. He got bit, but he was wearing protective clothing, but it still gave him a tough fight for such a small creature!

The tasmain tiger. Even though their extinct, they still should be remberd. But atleast I heard that scientists have Pickled Pups of them and are trying to bring them back. But I dont know if its true.
