Turn to Page 47 of the Book Nearest You
« on: March 03, 2017, 11:11:22 am »
This is a game I got from another site and figured it would be fun!

Turn to page 47 of the book nearest you and post the first two sentences here. No cursing, violence, or anything that would get people upset.

My example - Hunger Games: Catching Fire
"'Not in District Eleven,' says Effie. District 11."

Lucky took in his appearance with a gasp."

"At least the minute they had contrived some naughty plan of revenge; and many a time I've cried to myself to watch them growing more reckless daily, and I not daring to speak a syllable, for fear of losing the small power I still retained over the unfriended creatures."

-Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

If you define yourself by the power to take life, the desire to dominate, to possess… then you have nothing.

"The moon had risen higher, and floating in the Sound was a triangle of silver scales, trembling a little to the stiff, tinny drip of the banjoes on the lawn.
I was still with Jordan Baker."

"For a while we walked only to the sound of grass crunching beneath our feet, but as the sun rose higher, the birdsong swelled around us. Shrikes and sparrows twittered in the low brush, while hunting goshawks, their pale bellies flashing in the sunlight, cut the sky above."

The Japanese concept of wabisabi:
The closest concept in english would be 'rustic'
They might have an old thing, one example is a favourite bowl or dish, it's broken, pieces are missing, why fix it?  With gold and pieces from other dishes?
"Because it was my favourite & I like it"
