Literate Roleplay Help?
« on: July 03, 2011, 03:24:31 am »
Hi, I would like to learn how to literate roleplay. I've seen many advertisements in Flourite about literate roleplays. I know they are typing in paragraphs and giving detail but I would like some support on HOW to do it. (You may think this is stupid but I'd like some tips  :D) If you could give me examples on what literate roleplaying is like or some tips that would be awesome   ;D. I roleplay sometimes with short sentences to explain something simple that I forgot to put in the last 'semi-paragraph' that I make.

Oh and mods, if this thread needs to be moved please do so  ;) i wasn't sure where I should post this.

Make sure you use proper spelling. Always think about what you next post will be, and think of ways to flesh them out. For example:

" She smelled deer. She got ready to hunt." <- this is an example of a non-literate post. It still makes a point, but is lacking description.

" She came to attention as the musky scent of deer filled her nostrils, combining with the scent of the rain. Excitement at the prospect of a hunt filled her body; it took everything she had to stop from bolting after her prey. She turned to the group behind her, awaiting the signal." <- This post says the exact same thing as the previous one, but which one is better? This post give the reader more of a description of what your character is going though. This is an example of a roleplay post I would use in game.

A good guideline is think of what you want to accomplish, and add description of different senses in. What does your character smell? See? Feel? In my second example you could tell it is raining, that the deer smells musky, that she is excited to be hunting, and that she is not the one in charge, and in only three sentences. It takes practice, and I am by no means a master of it, but if you try hard, you will succeed.

Anothet tip: making a bio is easier, so you and the peope around you know where you are coming from and who you are. People might think you're just a mean person, but really you had a war with your old pack, and are still in the haunting memory of it. So bio's always come in handy ;)

Ears are ears, not lobes.
Eyes are eyes, not orbs.
Tails are tails, not tassels.
Bodies are bodies, not barrels.
Legs are legs, not columns.

That is all.

Look me up in-game, aye? I'd be happy to help you out with roleplaying.

Princess, please don't necro old threads and check the date before posting - this was created in 2011.

However I'm glad that you've learned a little bit from this c:
