The Elven Hound

Description:
The Ra'huan, or elven hound, is a huge, long-lived dog. It is most commonly found in the company of elves, who use it for both hunting and guard duties.
The Ra'huan has a thick coat, often marked with spots, stripes, or patches. This coat
allows it to conceal itself in the forests and fields near its home. Where most dogs crash through the
forest, the Ra'huan moves as silently as its elf masters.
Adult Ra'huan grow to about 4 feet at the shoulder and weigh anywhere from 160 pounds to 300 pounds. Their huge paws
house equally huge claws, which are curved to ensure better traction in the soft loam of the forest lands.
Their tails generally arc over their backs, though they hang between their legs when they are being
scolded. Their ears come to a point on top of their heads, giving the Ra'huan an attentive, intelligent
look.

Habitat/Society:
Ra'huan tend to avoid other "normal" dogs, seeming to find them inferior. They do however like the company of wolves, and felines respecting them as equals. 

The Ra'huan have an incredibly loud bark that can be heard more than a mile away. However, they
only bark to warn their masters or pack-mates. In almost no other circumstances will a Ra'huan emit
noise.

Ra'huan live to be 100 to 150 years old.
Ra'huan mate for life. If one of the pair is killed, the other generally wastes away.
Females are pregnant for 2 years before they give birth, on average they have 1-3 pups.
Ra'huan puppies bond strongly to their parents/pack, and the parents/pack are highly protective of their offspring.
Only a fool comes between an adult Ra'huan and its children.
Puppies become young adults at 10 years old, but they don't become sexually mature until they are 20.

When Ra'huan aren't under the commands of an elven master, they usually roam the forests in pairs, or in packs of 3-12 members.
Ranks:
King/Queen
Rook
Knight/Hunter

Because the Ra'huan are so long lived they don't believe in having so many ranks.
The pack is run almost like a pride, there is a King and Queen that leads, under them is a pair of Rooks whom inherit the pack should a king or queen die. Under the Rooks are Knights and hunters, both have the same jobs but hunters act more as scouts and messengers while the Knights are more of guards and warriors.
Pups are considered the Pack's pups, no matter who their parents are, and as such are redeemed in the highest regard. They are taken care of by the whole pack with no exception.

When pups are about 15 years old, they get the rank of either Knight or Hunter depending on the skills they've developed. From there the Pups will have to work there way up the ranks like every other member even if they are born to the King and Queen.

Creating a Ra'huan:

Although they seem a bit arrogant to others, they are a nuetral good species! So no evil or chaotic dogs!

Build:
They are Canine. (maybe if enough people are interested I'll make a Feline one. )


Ra'huan are usually found in greens, browns, and white. Although they range in any shade of those three colors. There pelts are always either spotted or striped, which helps them blend into the forests in which they live.

The last two are a depiction of the lightest Ra'huan and the darkest. they don't get any darker or lighter than those two.

When creating a backstory/history remember that these hounds can be either born in the wild or released by an elven master. Otherwise you get full creativity over the story! just have fun!

Personality: Strong, arrogant, bold, protective, and nature loving.
History: Korvin used to be a guard for a royal elven family, he spent many days patrolling and fending off invaders. However half way through his term, Korvin and his master faced off against a mage. They did well until the mage cast a spell on Korvin and sent him to an unknown place. With Korvin so far away from home and away from his master, he has become lost and now just lives along side other creatures.

Just one quick question, for the build, do they have to be exactly the same? Or are the bars you've shown just, say, what the average would be? Can I vary a character a little bit to make them more unique? (For instance: a tiny bit shorter perhaps?)

Yes you can edit them to your liking, the only thing I ask to keep the species is the spots and colors be greens, browns, and white. Pointed ears and the curly tail. ^^ other than that, have fun! I'm excited to see people use them! ^^
