Sorry for the post spam but my other one was locked.

I just updated all the maps again for 1.17a so it should be all good now. Sorry it took so long to get around to it. I don't play this game anymore.

Hey, just a heads up this is probably going to be a bit of an intermediate difficulty post. If you don't know what DVXK or Vulkan is, I wouldn't recommend trying it until you read through the entire post first.

This post is for Windows users only. However, Linux users should be able to figure it out it's more or less the same. ;)
Mac users cannot use this as Apple does not support Vulkan at all, and there is no Metal alternative.

Prerequisites:
  • A computer made in the last five to seven years (roughly) that supports Vulkan. (If you don't know if yours does, there's a step for testing further down in this post.)
  • Software that can read .tar.gz files. For example, 7zip or WinRAR

What is DVXK?
Created for Linux and Wine, DXVK is a Vulkan-based translation layer for Direct3D 9/10/11. Compared to OpenGL and Direct3D 9 (DX9) Vulkan is intended to offer higher performance and more balanced CPU/GPU usage by working closer to the hardware than what Feral Heart currently provides. While this may not entirely be accurate for us if your game is GPU bound, there should be a noticeable performance improvement.

Testing if your computer will support Vulkan.
Go here: https://github.com/skeeto/vulkan-test
Download "vulkan_test.exe" and run it.
You should see a popup that says "Successfully created a Vulkan instance."

If you don't, I'm not sure; all my devices run it successfully. It should give you informational hints as to what you may need to do to fix it.

Downloading DVXK.
Okay, we're ready to download and install it.
  • Go here: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases
  • Scroll down to "assets" section and download the latest dxvk-*.tar.gz available. (For me, at the time of writing, this was dxvk-1.7.tar.gz)
  • Using your archive software of choice open the downloaded file and go to dxvk-1.7 > x32 and extract "dxgi.dll" and "d3d9.dll" to your Feral Heart installation folder.
  • Now you need to set Feral Heart to use the "Direct3D 9 rendering system" if it isn't already. The easiest way to do this run the game, go to settings > video > rendering subsystem > Direct3D9 and then restart.

FAQ
Q. How do I know if it's working?
A. Check your FeralHeart installation folder. There should be a file called "FeralHeart_d3d9.log" created by DXVK. If you see this and your game is running in Direct3D9 mode, it's working.

Q. My game doesn't run any faster!
A. Your computer is probably CPU limited. Unfortunately, DXVK doesn't do anything (and may even hurt performance) if this is the case.

Q. My game crashes as soon as I click it!
A. Your computer probably doesn't like DVXK or doesn't support Vulkan. Rerun it, and you should get the pre-game settings. Change the setting to OpenGL.

Q. Screenshots I take in-game don't look right after doing this!
A. I've noticed this too. It's a bug with DVXK. If you want to take screenshots, you're going to need a different tool like Snipping Tool to take them.

Any more common questions you guys have I'll add them down here.
If you're stuck, add me on Discord, and I'll try to help as best as I can. Jellyfish#2224

Update for the 15th of April, 2017

I've lost all the original files I used to make this map pack because my hard drive died, so I've had to start it again. The portal to the maps is located in the Cape of Distant Worlds and will take you to the FH 1.13 Lonely Cave. From there everything (should) be as it was in the original game. If you are reinstalling this pack the portal in the 1.15 Lonely Cave will not work anymore

Update for the 17th of April, 2017

Removed the old 1.13 Cape of distant worlds since it seemed to have bugged people's games and there's no way to actually get to it from the pack since all the maps take you back to the 1.15 version.

Make sure you uninstall all previous versions of the map pack before installing the new April update!!

If you find any problems please let me know on Discord: Jellyfish#2224

(The download button in the top right corner of the page)

Install instructions:
1. Extract the two folders labelled "exports" and "media" into the FeralHeart root folder.
2. Press yes to replace/merge any folders.
3. Have fun on the old maps!

Game Help / Does anyone know how to get the old maps working in 1.15?
« on: September 22, 2016, 02:29:24 pm »
Hey everyone! :D

I'm trying to port the older Feral Heart maps into the Unity Engine but I need to go on them for reference. I've tried directly copying over the maps from the old version as well as all the objects and other assets but when I try going to any map that isn't Lonely Cave or Cape of Distant Worlds the map loads but I can't get the loading screen to disappear.

See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqKAqRQWeKs
Don't mind the blinding white, I tried replacing the loading screen images with completely transparent images but they don't render correctly and show up as white.

Has anyone managed to get them to work yet or am I stuck only on the new maps? Any help would be greatly appreciated since I miss the game dearly but the new maps aren't the same...

UPDATE 20TH OF OCTOBER 2016
Hey everyone, I just realised I haven't said anything in a while so I thought I'd make a post saying this project isn't dead, I just haven't been making builds for the public and I've been learning how to write C# properly not copy-pasting other people's code from the internet which means there hasn't really been much development of gameplay. Also, I've returned to remaking the original maps instead of the ones from 1.15 since it doesn't feel right converting the new ones. It's basically like stealing from the creators unlike using the maps Kovu abandoned when he disappeared from the community. But anyway, I should have another build with (fingers crossed) working multiplayer by the end of the year if everything goes to plan. :D

Includes builds for Windows, Linux and Mac.

Changelog:

0.0.5: The last, incomplete build of the game with the old maps. From this point onwards, I'm starting again and porting the new 1.15 maps instead due to being unable to visit the old maps and extract information out of them. Watermill is 90% done and now with a correct flyover camera. I've added a second button on the menu that takes you to an extremely early version of lonely cave. It might be some time before I put out another build since I'm starting from scratch but I do occasionally livestream my progress here: http://www.youtube.com/c/TobiasHagen7/live
0.0.4: Moved the Watermill test map to the main menu and added the flyover cinematic. The play button now takes you to a basic version of Fluorite Plains which is still in 3rd person free cam since player models and movement are still broken but it will now properly pick a random loading image. I'll add a fix to the character movement in with the next update. I also reordered the changelog so newest updates show up on the top (Click and drag to scroll.)
0.0.3: Added main menu screen with placeholder background for now. Removed follow cam due to issues keeping up with player, will add better solution in the next update... Probably.
0.0.2: Game now starts with the camera following the player and movement has been added. Pressing F1 toggles follow cam mode and pressing F2 switches to free cam mode.
0.0.1: Initial build, nothing really that interesting just a model of a lion and a tree on Watermill in free camera mode.

Game Help / Exporting .3ds as .mesh
« on: March 13, 2015, 09:59:00 am »
Hello! Recently, I found out that my school offers 3DS MAX 2015 to students for free so I registered a copy for myself and I wanted to try converting some royalty free .3ds trees to .mesh. After searching the OGRE forums for a bit a found a few programs that offer that but they don't seem to be compatible with Feral Heart, or at least the version of OGRE that FH uses.

The first program I used was OgreMaxSceneExporter which had an option to choose between OGRE 1.9 and 1.8 so I tried both exporting the same model but both seemed to crash the game after placing the exported files in /media/objects/my_objects. So next I tried EasyOgreExporter but that only seems to export objects as an "OGRE Scene" which I'm just going to assume doesn't work.

I know its possible since I checked the mesh portion of the forums and saw people are doing conversion requests but I want to learn how to convert them myself since I have a few dozen items that need to be converting, and it would a bother to have someone else do it for me.

THIS IS NOT THE FH+ VERSION FOUND ON SIMBA'S POST IT IS AN OLDER VERSION
Original FH+ thread here: HERE

So, if you don't already know FH+ has been canceled indefinitely thanks to a failed hard drive and probably won't be continued. But, I was going through my computer and found the installer for the last version (which is pretty old) of FH+ that was uploaded before it was taken off the downloads page. I installed it but it doesn't allow you to connect to the main server since FH vanilla has updated since it was uploaded and asks you to update to a version that doesn't exist. So I've taken the FH+ files and combined them with a fresh install of FH and made that into an installer for people to use.
Its a shame that this has happened but I don't see Simba spending 1400$ USD (or more) on a failed drive for a free video game, even if we donated, I doubt we would raise enough to have it repaired. That being said however, there are plenty of amazing maps that have been made by the community as well as texture replacements, new meshes and so on...

TL;DR This is not the same FH+ shown in Simba's post (1.131), this is a much older version (1.13).

There are a few problems with this though. Such as text not displaying on certain buttons sometimes, text appearing slightly incorrect, maps having objects that don't exist in regular FH meaning you'll see people incorrectly and so on... (Bonfire is a great example of this)

Things to note.
  • To get to the maps included in this pack you need to go to Bonfire Island and where the cave is, there will be a portal leading to Ficho Caverns.
  • The portal in the Temple of Dreams now leads to Ficho Caverns and can only be accessed from there.
  • Trying to modify your character in this pack will crash your game. There is a fix package up for this.

If you are having problems with editing your character, download this: THIS

WINDOWS
MEGA MediaFire

MAC
MEGA

(I have no idea if the Mac version works.)

Water Mill

Ficho Cavens

Endless Plains

Edit: I know there's probably going to be some anti-virus out there that's going to pick up the installer as a virus. (I'm looking at you, Norton) the best thing you can do is go onto google and search for a way to temporarily disable it somehow. I can't really do much about that. :/

Edit 2: I updated the download link and now the pack includes August 22 Mass Markings. :3

Edit 3: Mediafire link is up for anyone having download problems.

Edit 4: .zip Mac versions are now up but I have no idea if they work or not. I'd appreciate it if someone dropped me a PM or replied to this post letting me know.  :D

Edit 5: Special thank you to molly who figured out why it was crashing and providing a fix. I've updated the download links with a fixed installer as well as included a download link to anyone who has already installed this.
