(Sorry for the somewhat jump, this was a story i was making for TEC, which turned into a RP, but since i wanted this as the story for the writing contest i had to remove any posts of our members and fill them up quickly with my own. So all of this is completely mine...in future i will post the whole TEC book story on FH so anyone can see what we all really said. XD So again sorry for the jumps from action to action) )
It had already been years since it happened...but yet in his mind he could never forget. It flashed in front of his eyes as he slept, every night like this, tormenting him...reminding him as if he might suddenly forget how..he became a kreptis.
(Somewhere in the mountains, 5 years ago)
The wind whistled through her ear, as if howling and bringing life to this desert area. The trees waved slightly; almost like dancing to a zen like tune, not moving as much as she expect with this wind, something was wrong.... She stood up slowly and sniffed the air, it smelt as usual, a scent of some wild berries not to far off around the stone cliff which smelt of some sort of ash. The regular squirrel who somehow always averted her attempts to snatch, as he steadily gathered his usual acorns. But still her ears twitching, something else was in the area...new but somehow averting her senses. The hair rising on her back she took few steps forward, only hearing the continuing howl of the wind, and the click of her claws against the rough snow until...*Snap* There it was, something was for sure in the vicinity, but what!? Who could've sneaked so close without her noticing sooner. The wind picked up, blowing the snow in front of her, at a time like this could it get any worse. She took another step forward peering through the snow overcasting in front and then...Darkness...
What was this place..death? No, she was still alive, but somehow unconscious as her mind and thoughts continued to go. She felt nothing, trying to wake up from a place that was no where, not a dream, not life, not death; then there it was again, that snapping sound. What was it? Slowly she began hearing the wind again, more realistic howl then before, she could suddenly feel here body, yet felt weightless. She opened her eyes, trying to gain her focus, her ears twitching to catch onto the sounds again, but it was hard; head pounding and so hard to hear, why so... Her eyes regained their focus to find herself being dragged....By another wolf, dragged by her neck. It was odd, she didn't feel his grip on her neck, nothing at all cept a cooling sensation dripping down it. It felt nice until she realized what it was, her eyes following down his leg and by his paws, there was a blood trail. She started to panic, but her body did nothing, laid their useless...useless like a deer carcass that had its throat ripped out. Was that what happened to her? Then Dropped...She quickly shut her eyes, maybe he'd leave her alone, she tried to relax, as he sniffed her, she know what this tradition was...same way after she use to kill her prizes, before she ate them.
He slowly got up and trotted off, a somewhat proud vibe emitting from him. She re opened her eyes to find herself enclosed in a large den like area. She attempted to get up, she had to get out asap, before he decided to return and finish her off. Her muscles twitched, and her legs wobbled, like a new born fawn getting up for the first time. She wasn't sturdy but it would have to do, she had to get out, as much as she wanted to investigate the place she knew she didn't have the strength to fight. Something definitely had happened to her head, she could barely hear once she emerged out into the cold winter wind, and it felt somewhat heavier then usual. She limped out, taking small pauses to compose her self, and headed down the snow path unsure of where she was going. The blood trail did no help, he was bound to find her, and finalize the kill this time; in the distance was relief a small lake, she could possibly find an opening and wash her head, and hopefully lose him.
The water was cool, as expected in the middle of winter, but the mountains made it refreshing. She closed her eyes, feeling the blood wipe clean of her head. Then she looked, lets see what the damage was; A gash through her right ear making the ear slightly hang, her right eye was slightly gashed but not much damage appeared to it in her sight, she was lucky. Her throat was ripped open, some pieces hanging still, how was she suppose to heal from this. It would be impossible to hunt for the next few days. She laid their to rest needing it although her body was not wanting rest, it was demanding something else.
Her mind went in and out, lights flashing before her eyes as if the northern lights were secretly hidden within the dark solitude of sleep. Then that snap again, her eyes flickered open quickly, he must've followed her here, how long was she asleep, couldn't have been more then few minutes, but they sky told different, it was night. She crept onto the ice seeking to outwit him and escape, then a cracking snap sound, was a new one to her ears yet the snap was the same one. She looked down. The ice was not cracking but as she looked there was something else, something there creeping slowly to the surface. Strange tentacles appeared from the dark, spreading across the bottom of the ice, and these eyes appeared, eyes that caught her into a trance, she couldnt look away as if they peered into her soul and whispered in her head a strange language she could not distinguish. The Ice suddenly cracked...
She was swept down, the tentacles not releasing her, pulling her deeper and deeper into the darkness below. It was when she realized, she had no control of her body, she wasn't dying, she wasn't living, it was a strange feeling, her body was no longer there. Only her mind was as her body dissipated into this darkness. She was becoming it. Her body was telling her...that death was all that remained, to let go. It was till then everything went silent...
(Present Day ~ Black Tower Woods)
He opened his eyes, "Sigh" Was this all that was to be? Yawning he sat up twitching his ears and shaking his pelt of the bits and pieces of broken leaves..Same dream again, yet wasn't a dream. "Why me..?" Although it was soon to be realized. But what he could never understand was waking up after his death. Or what he use to say was her death, she had awoken as a male. No matter what he did it wouldn't change what he was, so he took on the name Hanzo. A slight cover up, but in reality to cover up nothing, she knew no one of where she awoke.
He got up and stretched, he had to continue traveling, maybe someone in this new world would understand what was going on. Where he was and what had happened, still in the back of his mind it burned, was he dead or alive? It had to be alive...there's no way to be conscious like this...
...Unaware of death
He continued walking down the stretch of bare land. Not much life existed in this world, it was so dark and gloomy at times, like a storm or disaster was waiting to emerge.....Yet it never did. He Shook his pelt of the cold crisp air that was enclosing him. Winter was not far from reaching this area, and it was always harder to hide his black pelt from unknown kreptie... friendly or unfriendly. No longer was he social, and rarely did he ever talk to anyone. Lately he smelled something though, it appeared something had been following him, keeping a watchful eye he slowly walked. The odd crackle he would hear, a stick or pebble disturbed and the earthly ground being muffled. He saw him now, a rather small wolf, black in appearance like him and confused expression in his face. The male wolf stepped forward realizing he had been spotted. "Hey, where you heading to?" he mumbled lowly, it seemed he was just as unsure about him as he did about the male.....
The past years it had always felt strange, not a normal place in the world to even exist, perhaps maybe in the back of a young ones dream, more or less a nightmare. Something creepy in ways, not normal..not real...not the world or life he had before.
Startled by this creature he took a step back. Bracing himself in need of defence, he had never fought here before; would it be hard, how did these creatures fight, or were they just normal wolfs and all this place was in his mind, driving him nuts? Ears pinned back wards and baring teeth he was ready... "Im not gonna go down this ti..." it was then he fully took in what this smaller wolf had said...' "Hey, where you heading to?" ' .... Was a good question..where was i heading to, i didnt know this land, didnt know anyone here..how could i possibly even keep traveling? Something was urging me on...still that voice in my head.. a language i had not yet known, a weird origin that was disturbing..
Looking confused with his right ear lifting up wards... "uh... no where, why does it concern you anyways...?" He walked around the wolf and continued on...slowly though. Time felt as if it was freezing, heartbeat became louder, pounding in my head until...blackness again. His eyes were tightly shut, trying to shake this out of his head trying to escape this, but there it was again but strange, not asleep! The memory...
Drowning in the darkness, unable to escape and pawing at nothing until your body vanishes and all that's left is your mind screaming but with no voice, pain but no pain... He must've been standing there for only a few seconds, his head downwards eyes still shut closed and body tensed; but it felt as if it lasted minutes. He laid down, and slowly opened his eyes and stared; there was nothing out there, few more dead trees before the outstretch of bare land. What was he doing? He had nothing anymore...not even a memory to look back on. Was it possible that this was it? To wander these barren lands in search of nothing, alone, never eating, never dieing, never...living....
"I don't know where im going to be honest.. Ive been walking these lands for 5 years, not meeting anyone, never talking to anyone besides myself..heh" He chuckled slightly at his appearing insanity... "Your the first creature Ive met since i appeared in these lands, and yet yourself you look just as confused as me, i doubt it would be wise of me to even ask what you were doing or where you'd be heading" He rested his head down on the ground, ready to allow what ever was to come upon him. Eyes closing..." The name's Hanzo"
The Male introduced himself as Akamarosu. He seemed nervous but started rambling on about "us creatures" claiming that we look like ghosts in his opinion, where he had come from. He lost track of what the smaller male went on about....
He turned his head back to look at the wolf again, studying his appearance. Could it really be ghosts? Ghost like...creatures? We're we still wolves? Ah too many questions, i need answers before i asked more. He turned his head back again looking down the path he was following, something had to be out there...and what did Aka mean; others? So there were more of us? Again more questions! He shook his head and looked down studying his paws. They were different, a slight shadowy bleed from them, ghost like manner as aka said.. uh how could it all be true, this place seemed to real.
He got up and sat in front of Aka.. "So..Aka right?..You said you don't know what we are, I've been right all these years." He looked up, and stared at the unusual stars, finding the one Aka spoke of. Finding it...was weird, same way i had always been urged to go. "We can't be dead, i never believed in afterlife, and i still don't. But you are welcomed to follow me if you wish, seems we are heading the same direction", He nodded towards the long barren land up ahead. "There's gotta be someone who knows whats going on, and i plan to find them", his body tensed again. "Do you know of any source of water around? Id like to see how i look, rather then trying to turn and spinning around like a moron", he grinned, "its been.. hmm id say 5 years I've been here, cant be for sure the sun and moon isn't normal to me anymore, but Ive never seen a source of water around yet". It was true, he wanted water..make this world a little bit more normal, but to see himself as well.
It was odd, when he awoke in this place, dramatic changes happened. It was as if someone repainted an image of himself, took what was in him and redesigned him. Why a male he could never understand.. But his looks did change the most. Back as a female, which was strange it self that he was use to being male, use to calling himself one, acceptance he guessed. She use to be proud of herself, brightly colored to some, although it was how her species was. A soft purple with unusual markings but for an alpha of a pack, the more markings the better. The memory was hard, it had only taken him 2 years to fully get the details right, to only find out she was the last of her kind. In solitude, a war that had torn her apart, taken everything from her. Maybe it was why she was here, but why so different? When he had awoken it was no longer purple but dark...pitch black fur, and his markings, a weird bluish color. He'd have to wait for answers apparently.
Shaking his pelt and composing himself he turned again to Aka.. "Well, ready to go?" He walked forward not fully waiting for him to respond nor follow him, he was sorta stubborn that way. More leader then follower, perhaps things would pick up and he'd meet more of his kind, and hopefully find an answer to all these questions that grew in his mind...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As he walked, Aka (as he got use to calling him for nickname) followed him. They slowly met more of their kind, continuing they slowly formed a group, and followed a destination that no one knew of. It rattled in the back of his mind to continue on in this direction, north, across a barren land. Two more had joined them so far....Eloromir and Skye. Skye being the one of two Females at the time and blind, she was somewhat close to the other Eloromir who was a dragon, much larger then anyone in the group. He chuckled to himself, perhaps it was a woman thing, maybe they felt stronger together against us males. At times they took breaks, sleeping in shadow spots out of eyesight of unwanting guests.
He didn't want to sit here. Anxious to get moving and feeling a chill down his spine he stood up. "Well i don't know about you guys, but I'm heading onward. That chill air is meaning winter soon, it wont be long till the first snowfall arrives and i don't plan on being stuck here." He shook his pelt and yawned, and headed down the stretch of bare land, there was something beyond it, something waiting but it would have to wait a little longer. The others seemed to follow him as he walked, the female Skye seemed a little hesitant to follow them but he would feel the same. Who knows what we could all really be, we didn't know each other well nor had the time to, perhaps the walk would spark up a conversation.
As he walked, he listened to the cool air seeping across his ears. He didn't like winter much, cold, too bright, and not fun for hunting. In this place it seemed different, which wasn't strange, this whole place wasn't normal. He looked up, in the horizon dark clouds were heading their way, the snow had probably already hit wherever they were headed. Almost made him wanna turn around and avoid the season, try to find a place that the clouds could never reach or find. He chuckled to himself, yea like a place was ever to exist besides hell.
He continued on, stopping at times to let the others catch up, more secretly in his mind to still make sure they were there. He rather enjoyed the company now, not having to watch the surroundings as much (truly he still felt he had to watch them as well). He stared at the odd bunch, they all had something in common, besides the dark fur appearance, the random weird markings they all bore, they all were missing something. A home, a place to go to. Someone to have and to care for. More or less a reason to belong. He smirked slightly trying not to show his emotions, they were a mini pack, not knowing where they were going, and going in the least. All together....
He halted mid step, tired, hungry, exhausted. He didn't wanna go much further atm. The city wasn't far away, just a quick run and they could reach the entrance easily. He smelled it from where he sat, it was close to garbage smell, but more like death. Was it safe to enter a place that smelled of death? He wasn't sure, just wanted to continue rather then stay put. The city's buildings and houses blocked the evening sun set out. Pitty...it was nice to see something not as dreary and shadow appearing. He rested his eyes for a second.
It occurred to him that the smaller wolf Aka had spoke to him. Wanting food, which was reasonable, who knows how long anyone has been without. They hadn't eaten since they left, there wasn't much to grab around this desolate place! "We shall in abit, let us reach the city tomorrow. Hopefully there will be some sort of food there. I haven't seen much running around since we left." He said lowly. He felt sorta down, he noticed the other wolf, the female....Skye... alone, she didn't interact with them much . He would give her space, perhaps she would trust him in time.
"We will head out in the morning, make sure your all ready. Id prefer not to leave you two behind, but...." He wanted to express his feelings towards the urge to the city...a calling that he couldn't explain. "Just be ready" he ended quickly laying his head down resting, he didn't wanna think about it more then he had to. He stared off into the distance, the odd time looking towards the city. He kept his watch, who knew what was out there. Something or someone had to be watching, he just couldn't figure it out....
He began to lay down, his large ears drooping on either side of his head, wiggling his nose irritated and laying his muzzle on his two front paws. His nails clicked on the ground and he let out a huff. Finally he could attempt to relax, a dragon near them would provide protection, perhaps in the city it would become very useful, ofcourse if she could fit - he chuckled again to himself, he went on in his head quietly and let the others do as they wished for the time being. Family....She was right he guessed. He would never find family in this place, he'd hope not, but he could start a new. His eyes closed and right hind leg stretched out to the side.
A family...it was nice, they had all come together...to...Survive it seemed. Why had they all been alone up until this time? Where they all waiting as he was, for a uniting reason to live and explain this world they were all tossed into? Gah questions flooding his mind yet again. He tried to rest, the city not to far away, something there awaited them, something good he hoped, with all that had happened in the last few days he couldn't bear any disappointment.
