News Archives / Re: RIP General
« on: June 19, 2013, 06:28:07 am »
Seeing as it has already become nearly impossible to find worthwhile RPers for literate roleplays, this is just another nail in the coffin for FH RP in my opinion.  I run a pack based entirely on private maps.  The only way we get new members is by hopping into popular maps (usually just FP) and hanging out for an hour or two while we advertise.

Movie clips are not actually an alternate option.  I noticed early on in the game that if you resize your screen, you can't see other folks' video clips unless they are using the same screen resolution as you.  Odd and random coincidence ... unless that was fixed sometime in the last year or so.

On the plus side ... now there won't be so much random spam and conversation in general chat.  I don't know if it was intended for purposes such as advertising, but I do have to say it was quite annoying to be out there advertising and having 20+ people hanging out all over the map just chit chatting it up 80 words per minute.  I never understood why they didn't all just go find eachother and talk, then after Party chat was activated why not just form a party and chat from their random hiding places.

I appreciate the fact that you guys are trying to improve the game performance and mechanics, I truly hope this helps ... unfortunately I worry that you are, literally, just putting another nail in the coffin that is FH RP.

EDIT:  I wanted to add, as another possible solution ... why don't you just start handing out bans to people that spam/misuse General Chat?  Honestly you could just start handing out short term bans to anyone that is using Gen Chat for something other than recruiting or short term conversation.  Make the folks that do nothing but chit chat in Gen all night go find eachother or use the Party chat function.  I guarantee you that after a week or two of short term bans (maybe 24 hours for the worst offenders)  the Gen Chat will be freed up for the folks trying to advertise and recruit.

You shouldn't have all those files ... how long ago did this person make the map for you?

If you do a lot of map making, check into your particle files ... sometimes there are a couple that end in like ... 001, 002, etc ... that pop up and will crash you relentlessly.

If you don't ... Tailz gave you the advice I'd have given otherwise.

Game Help / Re: Maps won't work! Help!

This looks solved, but to reiterate for anyone else that reads this ... you cannot put file folders into your exports.  You have to put the loose files in, otherwise your maps won't show up.  I know it can be frustrating for organized folks, but I suppose it's just the way things have to be, haha.

You may hate me for saying this, but part of your problem is that you are using an Acer.  They are incredibly low quality computers, I should know.  I've had my Acer Aspire since June 2008 and I used to be able to play WoW on it without too many issues.  Now, I can barely even play FH on it at times, with many lag issues, even after dumbing down all of my settings.

Figured I'd give you a forewarning on that one.

Otherwise, I honestly think many people are still experiencing problems with the Server and that will likely keep happening until Raz has had a chance to talk with the Server folks and get things settled.  Unless my eyes deceived me, I believe he mentioned having hacked FH through their servers, so the game is probably not running at Optimum Capacity.

Partially just a guess on my part for that last bit, don't bite my head off if it's wrong xD

Game Help / Re: uhh why cant i log in?

On this topic ... Some of my character work, others cannot connect to the map server.  Is there issues still going on?  I am not able to log in to a few of my characters that are in a private pack map ... all of the characters in that map receive the 'cannot connect to map server' or 'lost connection with map server, retry?' messages.   I am able to log on to characters I have in the plains and in my other private pack map/pack RP without an issues, however.

Game Help / Re: FeralHeart is being crashy....
« on: April 24, 2012, 05:12:52 am »
I think I've found the solution to this problem.  I have no idea why ... but after uninstalling everything and screwing around with all of the folders, one by one, I discovered that FeralHeart randomly created 2 particle files in the FeralHeart\media\particles folder.   They are named water_0.particle and water_1.particle.  They were created just today by FeralHeart, no idea how or why.  When I removed them from the particle folder, voila, FeralHeart started working again.

My suggestion to you is to check your particle folder for those files.  If they are present, delete them.  Your FH should work again once that is done.

On a side note ... what the hell happened to the OpenGL format FH used to boot up in?   I noticed that that option was no longer available when I was looking at all the possible problems/reasons why FH was no longer working.

/rant/

I disagree with much of this.  It is not Feral Heart's responsibility to monitor other peoples children, nor should they take that upon themselves.  I don't disagree with requiring children under 18 to have parent/guardian permission, however it is NOT possible to prevent them from playing anyway, I should know.  I spent about 12 years of my life going to sites and playing games that were deemed 'inappropriate' for my age.  I signed up for Myspace 'underaged' when they used to have age restrictions ... it's rather simple to dodge for anyone that really wants to play.  The only thing I could think of that would prevent that 'dodge' is to require a Credit Card Number.  I'll tell you right here and now that that is a STUPID idea.  You will lose the majority of the player base for this game ... A)  This game has been hacked before ... and I'm sure would be simple to hack again if you know what you're doing ...  WHY on Earth would anyone trust you with their Credit Card information?   B) Most parents do not trust websites with their Credit Card information  C)  Parents will start rolling in the complaints about how their child stole their credit card to sign up for the website and you'll have an entirely different (and harsher) problem to deal with.    I can honestly say, I just don't see any way to require what you have stated you are requiring.

I'm 22 years old now, so this doesn't affect me all that much ... I come here for a good time with friends and to enjoy decent roleplay.  I'm glad you are trying to 'take to task' those that are breaking rules, however I feel that most of what you are doing here is over-the-top extreme.

This is a game ... the mentioned act is not even graphic and if someone doesn't like it, there was a block button created for a reason ... for those that take this too seriously, THEY are the ones that perhaps should not be here.  People come online to have a good time and get away from real life problems and issues and everyone has their own way of blowing off steam.  Would it be nice if people followed the basics of RP etiquette?  Absolutely!  Will it ever be feasible to force that upon them?  Not a chance ...  I argued with many a user about interrupting my role play or just being plain rude, but it never got anywhere.  I got away from all of it by jumping into private map role play, that solved the issue just fine.  Most, serious, RPers all use private maps now because everyone is tired of interruptions out in the plains and other 'stock' maps.

Have I ever interrupted a role play?  Sure!  Everyone does at some point or another, some on accident, some on purpose.  I've never purposefully ruined an entire RP day for a person or group, however.  If I'm out 'trolling' I may pop in with a line or two and then leave, because nobody wants everything ruined ... but sometimes that short break is fun for everyone.

/end rant/

Now I have a feeling everything I just typed makes very little sense ... but I'm fly by wire sometimes :P

My whole point behind my ranting is that I feel shutting down FH for a week, just so that you get folks to read the forum?  Is a bit over-the-top, though I'm not entirely sure how else you'd get folk's attention ... but I also believe that this whole 'extreme' is going to be a large waste of your (the FH staff) time.

Feel free to comment back and 'lambaste' my thoughts how you wish :P

PS:  I'm mostly just pissed because I've been without power for almost a week ... just got it back about 4 hours ago ... and now find out I'll be without FH for another week -_-#

I believe she is referring to the character creator.  There isn't another release for Aro'Kai right now.

What they said is true.  For the last ... 5 or 6 nights in a row, Feral Heart has stopped allowing members to log in around 9:00pm - 9:30pm Pacific Standard Time.  Until last night, that would last until about 10:30pm PST, when the server would kick EVERYONE offline.  Then about 10:45pm the server would come back online and you could roleplay again.

Last night the server kicked EVERYONE offline just about 9:30pm PST and wouldn't let anyone on until about 10:45pm PST.

It's an incredibly annoying issue and I hope someone is working on fixing it ...

My best guess is that the server is becoming overloaded with players ... ever since the release of wings for Christmas, I have seen 700-800 people online regularly ... before wings ... I didn't usually see more than 500 people online at a time (on a BUSY weekend).
