Forum Discussion / MiT Colours?
« on: January 08, 2020, 11:55:15 pm »
This isn't a majorly important discussion, but it's a discussion nevertheless ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I want to get your thoughts on what your personal thoughts are of the 'new' MiT (Moderator in Training) colours that changed from yellow/green to red/orange several Months back.

It's been on my mind for quite some time, but I'm wondering what goes through everyone else's mind when it comes to this as well.

Does it make you uncomfortable (OCD)?

Does it make less sense than it did before?

Does it look nice to you? Does it look bad to you?

What does it do to you?

From what I know from a past conversation with Raz is that the colour got changed because of how similar the MiT (Moderator in Training) colour and MotS (Member of the Season) colour looked compared in contrast to one another. However, from where I stand, I feel like the new change looks much too similar to the Global Mod colour now which, I think is probably worse. (Not to sound dramatic, that's just where I stand when I see this change).

I've taken into account that different monitor screens show different contrasts, hues and what have you, however, I feel if anything the MiT colour could have just been made more yellow in order to not bluntly disrupt the smooth contrast between staff roles? A lot may know this already, but I heavily care about presentation and how it comes across etc... but are you the same? Here's a couple of examples of what I mean:

What it was:

Administrator
Global Moderator
Moderator
Moderator in Training
Member of the Season (non-staff)

What it is:

Administrator
Global Moderator
Moderator
Moderator in Training
Member of the Season (non-staff)

What it could be:

Administrator
Global Moderator
Moderator
Moderator in Training
Member of the Season (non-staff)

I have considered blues, but I honestly think shades such as blues/purples should be left for development teams if they were to ever be created in future. But for now, on this topic alone, what are your thoughts? Should staff revert back to the smooth transition of colours they had before with the more yellow contrast as a replacement for MiT's? Or does it not bother you as much? Be honest! It's okay to be picky xD

Thanks guys! Please keep this friendly!

Forum Discussion / Re: New Names for Forum Ranks?
« on: January 08, 2020, 06:05:23 pm »
The thought of a light path and a dark path is interesting to me too; but maybe it doesn't have to show within the ranks themselves, but the stars/former paws we have that are presented under the rank. The stars/paws could represent either lightness or darkness for whichever path a user chooses on the forum. It could be a function that could be added to a user's profile that people could alternate back and forth from whenever they please? Mainly taking into consideration that username changes are a thing, and a lot of the time people on the forum theme/decorate their profile as their sonas, so these light/darkness 'themes' of the rank stars/former paws would most likely represent the character's trait which adds just a little more customisation? The lightness could be represented in white, while the darkness could be represented in an inky/tar colour of sorts. Just an idea.

Personally I think the ranks should be as neutral as possible no matter the theme! Mainly because everyone who is on the forum contributes in a different way.

That's just my thought on it. It's just the main reason behind the ranks I came up with/chose.

This is what I have to contribute anyway. Each batch isn't all too different, more or less re-arranging ranks and playing with different words etc.

That's all I have for now. I personally favour Batch Four because it feels like the Legendary Member rank gives that nice 'final' stage on a Member's journey on the forum. If that makes sense. It generally finishes off the ranks really nicely. You have to be a Wanderer then a Traveller in order to cross over to the Experienced Tiers, and then you have to become an Elite Member then a Representative to then cross over to the Veteran Tiers to then eventually land yourself as a Legendary Member. I like the way it all flows.

The batch itself shows progression. Just by hitting the Experienced Tiers you are then already showing Dedication, making it kinda pointless to have a rank specifically named 'Dedicated Member'. You could even go the extra mile and use the ranks to limit events that are becoming a bit too easy for people to take advantage of, such as MotS. For example; "You may only nominate users with the 'Experienced Member' ranks or above." Additionally, this will set more of a challenge, and will even show Staff users who are dedicated and show the morale that is much needed in FH.

P.S. if we ever get the badges fixed again we should definitely have "earned ranks" badges.

Request/Find Meshes / Re: Snow Texture Material?

It might be worth making your 'own' object with the rock instead of trying to use the rock already saved in the creative corner object list!

I'd make a step-by-step tutorial here but it might be easier if I do it myself and then send everything over to you.

I'd just need the texture you wish to use!

Y'welcome! : )

Only thing I feel I can suggest now is to re-name the map itself, maybe keeping the display name the same as the map name and re-exporting as a 'different' map.

37
Perhaps move all the Zion map files that are in the terrain folder (including the map folder itself) on your desktop or somewhere safe and relaunch FH to see if it will recognise only the map in exports?

Seems like upon making changes to your computer's space, FH tried to adapt to that and caused this glitch?

I'd recommend trying to switch from Direct3D9 to OpenGL (or vice versa if these settings are rotated) within your in-game settings (under Rendering Subsystem). If nothing changes, perhaps uninstall and re-install the game through this method?:

1.  Make a copy of your FH folder and place it somewhere else on your computer, if you don't want to lose any mods you have installed to the game on your desktop or within your documents folder for example).

2.  Delete your FH folder from Local Disk (C:) (or wherever you had the folder located upon installation).

3.  Re-install FH using the torrent version.

4.  Check to see if this has fixed the issue before re-adding the mods bit-by-bit from your previous FH folder.

In order for the portal to find the map file, the map's .fhm file must be in exports. I wonder if that file was missing from the download or possibly didn't make it into the exports folder in general?

If that's not the case then it would really help a lot if you provided a step-by-step of what you did and what files/folders were involved- better yet, screenshots!

Introduction / Re: The Return of FH's Anti-hero ArkhamScout

Sometimes it's good to return to the forum first before returning to the game itself anyhow <: It adds a whole new perspective.

Hopefully you get your new setup soon, entering the game with a fresh feeling!
