Drakkolupen originate from a parallel universe to our own. They call their home world Lunalios, which is a combination of the word for moon (Luna) and the name of the sun god Helios. This planet is the home of four clans of "Great Beasts." These are: The Lupis Clan of the North, the Felis Clan of the South, the Draco Clan of the East, and the Avis Clan of the West. In the same order, the common names of each clan are Wolf, Cat, Dragon, and Bird. There was a war for power among the clans for almost all of the past twenty years. Recently though, one of Draco Clan's dragons became the first new Drakkolupen "born" in over fifty years. To explain, Drakkolupen are not born through natural means as humans and animals are. They are born through magical means when the balance of life on Lunalios is in jeopardy. Each of the clans has its own group of ritual practitioners specifically for creating new Drakkolupen. Drakkolupen are created differently depending on which clan initiates the rituals, but regardless of that, all Drakkolupen are a mixture of all four clans. They are all hybrids of wolf, cat, dragon, and bird.
