How To Write A Good Character Biography

We've all encountered the problem. We have a great character and we know everything about them, but which information is crucial to put in the bio? And how to we lay it out?

Step 1: Take a deep breath

You are about to ease into the process of making a fabulous biography. Take a deep breath, keep calm, and calmly put your fingers on the keyboard. Make sure before you start, that you have plenty of open time to do it, and that you're in a generally good mood. Grab a snack, cuddle up, turn on some inspirational music, and here we go.

Step 2: Have a good character

Make sure that you actually have good solid character. You should already have tons if information in your head about your character. If you aren't quiet sure about a personality or even past, try looking to books, music, or even nature for inspiration. Inspiration is everywhere and can be found in the strangest places. You should have a moderate idea on the basics of your character. If you are unsure or uneasy about your character, sit back and think about it some. A solid biography comes from a solid character. Never rush a fabulous bio!

Step 3: Keep it neat!!!

Make sure you don't just throw up all your ideas out on the open biography space. This makes the biography look unorganized and unprofessional. Do your best to keep it organized and orderly. If you really want it to be organized, put it into categories. Put in clear categories such as: General Info, Physique, Relationships, Other. If you do t want to use categories-still keep it neat as best as you can. The best way is to have one piece of info on each line. Don't waste space by clicking the space bar a bunch. Just simply press Control J and it will enter for you without using valuable typing space.

Step 4: Figure out what information you're going to put in

Now don't freak out on this step. It's a lot easier than you think. You probably want to quickly write out your rough draft of the biography on a piece of paper. DEFINITELY include the basic information. Name, nicknames, gender, age, the whole enchilada. Now pick out certain information that you believe is of certain importance. If you really want people to know every detail of your character, you can do what I call a, "Boomed Biography". This is when you make it organized, but put all kinds of information in the biography. How your character sits, how your character walks, what colors eyes, what color pelt, mother, father, sister, brother, what their voice sounds like, past lovers, who they currently have their eyes on, THE WHOLE ORDEAL. But if you prefer a non Boomed Biography, keep it simple with only the most crucial information. I'm not sure about others, but I never put my characters past in my biography. It takes up massive valuable space. Make it so that people have to roleplay with you to figure you out. That is what makes for a well developed, complex, and more REAL character.

Step 5: Type It!

Although it might make your fingers hurt, type all of the information you wrote down. Try your absolute best to avoid any spelling or grammar errors. Capitalize the right words and punctuate the right endings. If English is not your first language and you're not the best at it, don't be shy to look up any spellings or grammar rules if you're unsure. After you're done typing look back and read it through a couple times. Double, even triple, check for any spelling or grammar errors you might have made.

Step 6: CELEBRATE!!!

Congratulations! You just successfully finished undoubtedly fabulous biography for your even more fabulous character. Treat yourself to some chocolate, listen to some music, and roleplay! Have fun with your character fluffs. :3

How To Properly Deal With/Avoid Trolls

Let's face it. Trolls are a part of life here on the internet. Many people aren't sure how to react when encountering the Troll. So let's figure out what to do when these pesky players arise.

What IS a Troll?
A user called a "Troll" is someone who rudely and persistently 'jokes around' and messes with other users without consent. Even if not rudely, they will not stop and only get frustrated if you ask them to quit doing so. There are many different TYPES of Trolling. So be sure to know which types there are so you don't switch around a simply joking player (who will stop if asked), to a Troll.

1. Avoid Them!

Although seemingly impossible, there are ways to avoid Trolls. Just simply attempt to stay out of "Trollfested" Areas. Known areas to have Trolls are Bonfire, SOME of South Pole, and occasionally Stone Bridge. Just simply don't go there as often, and if you must, go in a more remote area of the map.

2. Violence is NEVER the answer

If you can't seem to avoid them, there are ways to deal with them. First of all, if you are being Trolled or you see someone being Trolled- vocal attacks never get you ANYWHERE. Trolls /want/ you to get upset, and it only makes them push harder. Also, try to avoid threatening them in anyway. Such as, "I'm going to report you!" Or, "I'll kill you if you don't stop!!". This makes you look like a bullying user, even if you're just trying to make them stop.

3. Ask Politely

If you must speak up to the Troll, do it politely. Simply ask them to stop doing whatever it is they are doing. Try not to include, "or I will report you." At the end of the sentence. This makes the person feel threatened, and will usually go into rage and/or temper tantrum. DO NOT use sly, clever, or witty comments towards them or it will encourage them to poke back at you. NEVER make them think you're playing along with your Trolling, or they will keep at it. There's a 50/50 chance here of what will happen if you ask politely. They might say sorry and stop, or they might say no and/or keep Trolling but more persistent/rude. Which brings us to step #4.

4. Block Them

An easy way to get rid of a Troll that's bothering YOU is to block them. This will stop you from seeing them and then from seeing you. Simple, easy, and works every time. Just double click on their character and click the 'Block' button.

5. Report Them

If you're a user who prefers not to Block people (like myself), then there is always the Report option. ONLY and I stress ONLY report a Troll if this person has already been asked to stop, and refused, OR is being a bully. This should also be used when you see a Troll harassing another member. The first way to Report someone is to shoot a Whisper to a Staff Member. It's good to have their usernames known, but you can always go to the Forums and look if you're unsure. Make sure you tell them where it's happening, so they can quickly assist you. If no Staff Members are in game, or you know they might not get there in time to see the Trolling happening, there is the second MORE EFFECTIVE method(aka- highly recommended method). You can see how to properly make and send a Report on Lord Suragaha's Tutorial found here: http://www.feral-heart.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=2&jfile=index.php&topic=46246.0
