Heightmap scale question [resolved]
« on: December 31, 2013, 09:34:20 am »
Hey guys!  I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I'm pretty confused.

What exactly is the deal with heightmaps and masks?  I know that the standard size is 513x513 but I just read a couple of tutorials that said maps could be larger.  Is this the case, because every time I try a larger size the game crashes??  Are there some special rules for heightmap sizes or am I just mistaken?

this is probably super simple but something went wrong somewhere and I seem to have missed it!

EDIT:  I don't have any trouble with the terrain mask I think there's something wrong with the heightmap specifically?  They are both 700x700 and 72ppi.  When I resized the heightmap to 513x513 it worked fine but for some reason anything other than that won't?

I don't quite understand what are you trying to do.
1. Are you trying to make the map bigger?
2.or are you just trying to make masks and height maps larger?

1. You can change the size of the maps inside the mapmaker.
2. I have never even wondered can I make it bigger since I haven't been need of it. You just need to make everything with smaller tools.

Idk if this helped but good luck finding the naswer you are looking for.
shhh noone knows me

I believe there is another size which not everyone knows, but you can change the height and width of the map in the map maker, so you don't really need it. The heightmap should only be 513x513 and grayscale, saved in the terrains folder.
