I think both ideas are pretty rad! I've read a little into the whole General thing and if possible, maybe the staff could train some more mods and have some watch over that subforum if it was prone to trolling. General subforums are usually a mess to begin with but from experience on another site, the mods that roam that part of the forum are usually pretty troll too (just within reason and the rules.)
Also, I play FlightRising a little and I agree that the registration system they use is pretty good. It'd be a good thing to implement.

Lync is a very good hardcore-punk band that's only been together for a short time in the 90's. they sound angry but there's balance in the song and between tracks. it doesn't sound all the same unlike most hardcore bands.

(Sandy) Alex G isn't as heavy but he has a really tender sound imo. sounds kinda folkish and it reminds me of simpler times.

pavement, spoon, dinosaur jr., marcy playground, red vox, the world is a beautiful place, ween, silversun pickups, the fall of troy, and aesop rock are other artists/bands i listen to that are at least somewhat obscure.

I've actually had some decent experience with people absolutely hating my very being but the key to that is to be conscious of what you may have done wrong and work to improve that.
I am definitely not the same person I was 2 years ago. I still have people who hate my guts and I honestly don't think that's very fair but it happens. The people you need around you are the people who know that you can change and do better. Falling out of friendships is a very tough thing to deal with but you're capable of lots of things, I assure you.
Keep your head up high and continue to work on yourself.
