The game was having some SERIOUS lag issues to where it was having you move 10 meters at a time.
This has been cleared up, it's a million times better, and you can actually fly something without going clear out of orbit in a single lag jump, it's very smooth now.
If you have a slow computer, it might have performance trouble, but in this case you can go to the Design studio to avoid the lag and mess around with ship designing. (Even more fun when multiple people are in a design studio at the same time)
There's a design studio right at the spawn point when you join, if you're getting too much lag, run to there, press F10, then enter one of the rooms.
