Height maps not found?
« on: September 21, 2012, 01:28:10 am »
I've done everything correctly and in the map maker, it will find y terrain mask, but not my height map, which is the most essential part. Any suggestions for fixes?

I think it's case-sensitive, so make sure you're being careful there... You might also have put it in the wrong folder (it goes in FeralHeart > media > terrains, but is easy to accidentally drag into a sub-folder). Good luck!

It's cap-sensitive as Tearless said and you might've left out a letter/ forgot a letter......... But i suggest that you check that it is in the terrains folder in Windows Explorer as Tearless said correct. Hope we both helped.

Yeah, I did all of that correctly, and it still won't find it.

Make sure you've done everything correctly, such as placing Terrains after the actual map name if it's the terrain one, and mask after it if it's the mask you're doing. (e.g. ZaroqueTerrains.png + ZaroqueMask.png). << You should also have it saved as .png.

Also, Did you create it with painting over watermill or did you paint something random in PS/Gimp and turned it into a terrain?

I've done everything correctly now, I still had he problem, then the map maker wouldn't even work without crashing. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Then, I go to put in my new height map and as soon as I type in the name, the game crashed. Like I said, I triple checked all the properties of the map, and it's all running as it should except for the fact that it wont accept any of my height maps. D:

And yes, I painted over watermill.

Instead of painting over watermill, open up PS/Gimp and create a new project.

It will give you options to change the size, make it 513x513 pixels, and if using gimp, click advanced options and change the colour space to greyscale

From here, select a grey as your base land colour and then go about creating your height map

Keep in mind heightmaps must be

513x513
PNG
One Layer
Greyscale
No alpha channel (can be removed in the layers menu in gimp)

like others have stated, you can place in FH>Media>Terrains but because i like being organized, i like to go ahead and save the name of my map in map maker so it will create a subfolder in the terrains folder for it. You can place the png for your height map in there. so it would be FH>Media>Terrains>(NameofMapFolder)

Alpha channel is something you get by right clicking on the image of your height map in the layers menu, and then selecting "turn off alpha channel"
