Game Discussion / The Actual "New" Feral Heart?
« on: September 19, 2018, 04:34:48 am »
[If this topic is similar to any other relevant topic, then I’m sorry for repeating someone else’s ideas.]

Hello, everyone! I’m an old time player and I haven’t been around in at least a few years. I’ve poked around the game and forum every so often from a force of habit and just to see how the community has been holding up. Hellos and introduction out of the way, allow me to go ahead to the topic, we’re busy people. (Also, I'm not anyone with any authority of Feral Heart, I'm just a player :) ).

Feral Heart has been around for a long time now. I am sure we’ve heard and said this a thousand times before, "we can’t change [-blank-] about the game because we don’t have the source code." After all this time, I can safely say the original creator is never coming back nor has any intention to allow access to the code.

Feral Heart is one of the few games I know that seem to be at a standstill. In an age of growing progress in technology and new talents coming up every day, you would think a community rich place like Feral Heart would make meaningful changes (yes, I know, there have been few changes, but hear me out). With all the limitations Feral Heart faces in its current and outdated state, why can’t Feral Heart simply be revamped? From the game engine, the models, the animations, everything.

These changes would include practically anything and everything the community has been asking for years. From providing central chats, different species, improved mechanics, services from reliable third parties, if needed be, etc. Feral Heart could finally be free from its “code” shackles, the community could, at last, receive the changes they’ve desired, and the longevity of both would be cemented.

What do you think? Do you agree that Feral Heart should receive a complete remake?
Do you think Feral Heart is fine as is?

-----
[Personal Opinion]: I would like Feral Heart to be like other games I enjoy. Even if the game developers are far from perfect, they still experiment with and build their games the best they can be. I feel like Feral Heart wants to do the same, but it feels like something keeps it back.

I see people create amazing game projects and even tried making my own. Then I think about Feral Heart and ask, "wow, how would Feral Heart be if they tried [-blank-] or added [-blank-]." I’m not saying Feral Heart should try to be like other games, but evolve over time as they do.

« on: June 16, 2015, 11:15:21 pm »
A Thousand Words Game

A Thousand Words game takes from the famous saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words." So, we're here to put that theory to the test! We are going to communicate only using pictures or gif (graphic interchange format) images.

Rules:
1. All general forum rules apply.
2. The images may not contain anything deemed inappropriate for the forum to view.
3. No cheating, only one image per post.
4. Try to make sure the images themselves are not too large.
5. Have fun!

So, let's get started!

Introduction / New Interface, No Problem
« on: February 13, 2015, 07:09:04 pm »
Hello, everyone. It's your friendly neighborhood, place name of "Philo" here.

Well, it's finally happened. After months upon months of borrowing, tolerance, and company gift card complications, I've finally obtained my new personal computer! Since my previous one had to be sent to the path of no return, I was forced to try to get a new one. Easier said than done, I say.

All and all, I was patient, occupied, and now have a new device for all my precious documents. Aside from the computer, my new semester proves to be one of a more laid back, despite the extra hours I need to stay.

It's great to be back once more and make time to interact on the forum and in-game. So... what'd I miss?

Game Discussion / That Diaper-Wearing Baby Moment
« on: November 19, 2014, 07:57:40 pm »
I've had a thought about situations where people do things without thinking it over. Then there are times, you do think about it beforehand, but it still turns out unfavorable. Then, those moments where people would try to help you out, but you're too much of a hot-head to heed them.

Next thing you know, you're sitting on a rock, whining like a baby for someone, anyone to give an opinion. As for myself, I've had a number of moments where I've been proven wrong or didn't take someone's advice. These days, I'm always for that word of criticism or correction. It took time in my early days to realize people were just trying to help me from an embarrassing and narrow-mindedful fate.

How about anyone else? Ever had that moment or event where you were acting like a know-it-all baby or just being a baby in general? Or had that time where you tried to be the one to help a fella out?

Introduction / No New Tech Toys
« on: November 14, 2014, 11:54:04 pm »
Good day to you all! As you know, recently I accidentally caused a malfunction on my laptop and it was sent away. With the whole sales, mail-nonsense, company merges, come on, just sell me the friggin' compu- excuse me... I still do not have a new device of my own, but my parent did the courtesy of allowing me borrow their's. Technically, I've been doing so for several weeks, but I was often wary of just randomly putting games on anyone's computer. I know they don't mind, but it's the principle for me; if it's not mine, I take good care of it. Added, I'd rather post on a forum while playing the game (it kinda balances my hours out).

I was basically like this for the past three weeks.

The only thing afterwards is that I started to get a bit bored and almost lost my mind to lack of interaction from individuals I knew well outside of just school. So, with that, I swallowed my pride and just downloaded the FH game as well as another game for further recreation. I love my family, they're the best. So, I'm back and awaiting new and better days.

Leaving / Technology, right?
« on: October 15, 2014, 01:51:32 pm »
Hello, good people of the four-legged world. As a few people may I have noticed, I haven't been around in-game or on the forum that much. So picture a clumsy ox, a convenient glass of water, and an already-needed-to-be-repaired portable device used for both constructive projects and entertainment. After that, the rest is history. So, with my said device being shipped to be repaired, I hope it's soon so I can continue my laid-back routine. In the meantime, you all continue to be fuzzy and safe.
Peace. ~

Game Discussion / Death to the Parents?
« on: September 03, 2014, 06:47:25 pm »

Hello, everyone - another topic I wanted to add. We love having parents and we nuzzle the ones we have. Parents are great, every shape and size. So, here's my question, why do we always have to kill off the parents?

Think about it - some people like to be detailed about their character's back-story, fair enough. In the end, the parents always have to die at some point. Whether it's them or the whole family, they usually are dead. Or never even bring them up as if they never existed.

Recently, I realized how many times I axed out the parents and came to the conclusion, "I might be a terrible person...!" I usually kill off the parents (if any) of my characters because either no one can play a parent or I don't feel like squeezing in an NPC.

What are your thoughts on the topic?

Game Discussion / Disabled Characters
« on: September 03, 2014, 06:36:59 pm »
We all like to have interesting characters, even if it means breaking their legs. Playing a character with a disability is both fun and a learning experience. Whether it's physical, mental, social, and so forth, it's just another aspect to explore with and share with others through your character. Handicap for the win, yea?

However, though it be, another person brought another thing to my attention. They said, "most characters with a mental illness is a psychopath," and this is true. Suffering from schizophrenia myself, it can be discouraging and stereotypical. Added, it is cliche, as if to say any character (and sometimes even real life people) who are mentally disable are like this.

There's never anything wrong with playing a character with an illness as long as you understand it. Like cannibalism, a disability of any kind should be played with respect. If you have a character or plan to create a character with a disability, play it through the character's eyes. Not just to be cool out-of-character or gain attention. Just be yourself and be your character while telling their story with dignity.

So how about you all? What kind of disabilities you like to experiment with or find a bit overused and abused? Do you like to play handicap characters? What ever the case, share your thoughts.

Discussion Board / So You Wanna Make Video Games?
« on: August 29, 2014, 03:46:41 pm »
Hello, you all, welcome to the thread. I noticed that there have been many people wanting to create their own games with fun ideas and premises. However, usually those same ideas and ambitions get deferred and are left to the side to rot. So, what's the subject?

Basically, there's nothing I love more than watching these same people succeed in their goals and give a community something great. Thus, I decided to create a thread that would possibly help people who are aiming to create video games (namely personal computers (PC) since that's our main focus.) If there is anything you all would like to add to the thread, please! Feel free to post what you think would be helpful for others. Or if there's something missed or presented incorrectly, please, feel free to also correct me! Thank you. Let's get started!

Game Engines
Of course, the first thing for any game, what-so-ever, is the game engine. The game engine is everything. Think of how a pieces of paper is to an artist. Same principle with game engines. So, here are a few current game engines that are out there.

Unity FREE / 30 day trail with Unity Pro) : Unity is a game engine provided by Unity Technologies that is amazingly powerful. It provides a multiplatform feature, which means a game published can be played on the listed platforms it can support, including Mac, Windows, BlackBerry 10, Linux, ect.

For the Unity Pro, there is a 30 day trail offered. It provides far more features that that of the free version of Unity. Also, if whenever you feel like it, you can simply use the Unity Pro while paying $75 dollars a month.

Unreal Engine (FREE!) : Unreal Engine is the most popular game engine there is, if not the top leading engine of the generation. It is a cross-platform engine that provides professional features and high quality. Games created by this engine include, Daylight, Fable Legends, City of Titans, and several games unannounced by Bluehole Studios (popular for TERA).

As of March 2015, the engine is now free to use! Be aware, though, for really good stuff or things you probably can't or do not want to make yourself, you'll have to buy a few assets in their store. Other than that, Epic Games wants everyone to know how awesome they are. :)

3D Model Software
Alright, so next on the list is the 3D art stuff! These are the ones I know of and researched. If there are some I may have missed is either because they are relatively high in price for most people or because I simply don't know of them.

Blender (FREE!) : Blender is one of the more popular 3D modeling software that people are familiar with. It's interface takes a good while to get the hang of and has a number of good tutorials in how to use it. It's additional features include animation, sculpting, and rigging.

Sculptris (FREE!) : Sculptris is a free-to-use 3D modelling software that serves as a sister program to ZBrush. It's very good for beginners and a simple interface to follow. Just jump in and sculpt whatever. Sculptris is also good to work with Blender! For example, you may sculpt something in Sculptris and place it in Blender to manipulate.

Right now, this is all I will provide, mostly if it peaks interest with the community, then I'll continue. Remember, most things we enjoy, either for daily living or just for our recreation. They are all made by people like yourself. So, if you have that unfinished project, maybe people with your ambitions can help you share your vision. Until then, happy playing!
