Game Suggestions & Ideas / An idea for the interface
« on: August 18, 2013, 01:37:33 am »
I have a small idea for the general game interface. It's simplistic, but just something I think would be a cool change. Of course, I'm aware that the game cannot be altered very much due to the reality that the source code is not known.  But, this is just a hopeful abstract idea for the possible future of getting the code.

Anyway, my idea is just having the icons and buttons of the interface on the side of the screen instead of the bottom.   In addition having them a bit more spaced out from one another and the chat box.

So, what do you all think about the idea?

Ask the Fox Philosopher

Ellos, I decided to create an "Ask me" for anyone who'd like to either get to know me better or simply curious about something pertaining to me.
Before you ask your question, just remain appropriate to the forum rules, do not ask me the same question twice, and other than that, ask away.

Game Discussion / Your first character
« on: July 18, 2013, 06:02:56 pm »
Out of curiosity, I'd like to know what and who exactly was people's first player character after joining Feral Heart. When your new to any game, you tend to abandon your first character because they often serve as the "test" toon for a person. So now, think back and see if you can remember what your very first character was.

I joined at least a year ago, so I'd say my memory isn't too bad (for once).

My first character when joining Feral Heart was a dog, an ordinary husky named Dani. It had black fur and a white undercoat, like normal dogs of that breed would. It had a family, just a simple family of humans that lived on a small settlement around a large body of water. On thunderous night, the house was struck by lighting and caught fire. Dani tried to rescue the panicked household, but the roof collapsed while they were still inside the burning home. Alone and scared, the dog fled the property, taking upon the conclusion to swim away from its home in the hopes of finding a new sanctuary. After hours of swimming, the dog grew exhausted, being hit wave after wave of water. The risk of being prey by sharks and other underwater predators plagued the frightened dog's mind.

Before long, Dani washed up on the shores of the Cape of Distant Worlds. Here, the dog stayed to find a new home and beginning to suppress its past to move on.

Game Discussion / Experience Point System [Idea]
« on: July 14, 2013, 07:28:34 pm »
I have an idea for mostly fighting-based role-plays or those who would like to add this into their theme. I notice that most role-plays base their ranks as the system to determine how willed your character is. For instance, the alpha being the strongest, the beta, below that, and so on. Or simply the highest rank essentially means you are the strongest and most tactical.

In a number of role-plays, there is an experience system put in place. With experience, you continually grow and develop in the attributes you have. These attributes would include strength, dexterity, defense, or whatever else you would like to add on to it. First, I want to talk about the stats and how it is influenced by the experience.

Now probably the tricky part is determining how the actual experience will be gained and how it's distributed through the player character attributes. If you notice in most MMORPG's, they have a system where once you level, you receive a number points to increase your stat once you level up.

Example: You transition to a level 2 and gain 5 points.
You then use 3 points onto your strength and 1 point to your dexterity. And you decide to save 1 point for later.

  • A factor in gaining in experience is, of course, doing something. In most role-playing games you do quests and what not, but we do not have NPC (Non-player Characters) or anything like that. Thus, where the game master comes in (namely the leader of the group). Most groups like to have a spar as an initiation into a group, have the player's character do a certain task to perform on their own, etc. Why not set a quest in place for your members to do yourself? This type of questing-system can only work well with role-plays that have either a plot, set theme, or motive. With out a story or action/adventure-type of quest, it won't be fun to the person actually doing it.

Example Quest: Find a blue rock and gain 300 exp.
The person finds a blue rock and brings it back, 300 exp gained.

Now before you level, you have a starting numbers.

  • Sample:
    Your character LVL 1

    Health: 200
    Energy: 200

    Strength: 10
    Dexterity: 10

    Exp for next level: 500

Now, you obtain the exp and gain a level.

    Your character LVL 2
    Health: 350
    Energy: 350

    Strength: 15
    Dexterity: 15

    Exp for next level: 750

  • A another factor in attribute stats is equipment. Equip a certain weapon or armor, your stats rise. Simple. Depending on the level or special property of said equipment, it increases your stat. This is simply an interesting place for those who like to play with items such as shields and swords.

Example: Random sword +3 strength   :   Random sword increases your strength by 3.

However you can decide your members start is all up to you. Whatever number points you decide to allow is all on the game master. Also, you need to be sure you understand your own custom system and how it works when instructing your members how to level. If you do not and it confuses you, simply don't use it at all, don't frustrate yourself. Again, this is simply an idea for role-plays who base it mainly on fighting, determination for power balance, and to reduce god-like properties for the leader or other higher ranks. If you would like to try it for yourself and so how it fairs out, please do. I would really like to know if this notion works out well.

Forum Discussion / "Wolfspeak" equals good post?
« on: June 18, 2013, 03:17:05 pm »
For past few weeks, I've been thinking about what makes an "good" post, mostly in literate ones. Most people deem using "wolfspeak," means you are a good role-player or writer. In addition, to have understood that half of the terms used are either non-existent or have a completely different meaning altogether. To me, now, they seem like designated terms to use to appear smart or simply a language people are most familiar with. I would like to steer away from this type of "speaking" and concentrate more on the creative aspect to role-play. I've been exploring more of the English language, as well as foreign ones for my occasional dialogue in tongue. It's not about the "fancy, scientific" terms that make you "literate" or flash yourself as a smart person, it about being creative with words, using them to set an original story to be read . As one writer to another, I also want to encourage that others explore their own language, use words that modern people have forgotten or don't know that exist. The complacency afterwards in doing so is worth it.

I'm the Fox Philosopher. When I enter Feral Heart, I completely abandon most reality and give no further thought to it, so I appreciate it when I'm not asked about personal subjects other than likes, hobbies, and dislikes. Though, occasionally, I will give an opinion or two on pop-cultural references.

I'm usually role-playing, so majority of the time, I'm occupied with a group. When I'm not, I'm just observing the people around me. I'm a deep thinker and easy to get along with, personally, I don't mind most situations. I don't make enemies, hold grudges, or dislike people in real life for anything. I don't care what anyone has done, whether be offensive or disrespectful, I reflect on it and move on. Fair warning, in any attempt to troll me, will be a waste of time. I don't get mad, I get friends ~
