I figured I'd be pushing it. xP I'll probably bring her down to a more ginger color, but I don't feel like reworking her right this minute. Tomorrow, probably.

Mira
Keo911

Gender: Female

Breed: Akatora Kai-Ken Dog

Appearance:
The base color of Mira's fur is a dark, blood red coloring that makes her an akatora- a red-striped. Her underbelly is only a slightly lighter shade, as is the fur around her honey-brown eyes. She's lean with muscle, and while not a very large dog, she's tough and uses her agility and speed in fights to compensate for a lack of brute strength. Her body is covered in black stripes, and she has a thick mane down her back that further bristles when she's angry. Black bangs cover her right eye, though she can see out of it just fine. Her tail curves upward and often over itself.

Personality:
Mira, while she can be feminine, often counts herself as one of the boys. She's always had to give everything 200% to match up to the males, as females are automatically seen as weaker and in need of protection. She hates it when the opposite gender treats her like a fragile piece of glass and will go out of her way to prove herself and until everyone knows she can take care of herself without their help, she won't relent. She's headstrong and stubborn, and even if she's in dire need of assistance, she will never ask for it. She's proud, and carries her head high. She never backs down from a challenge, and instead answers it with confidence. Sometimes, however, she is foolishly overconfident and her courage puts her between a rock and a hard place. She always finishes things, even if she doesn't start them, and never does a job halfway.

Likes: Fish/fishing, hunting, climbing, swimming, running, out-doing others in some form or another (especially males who look down on her).

Dislikes: Being interrupted or looked down upon, losing, being wrong or being embarrassed. Hates ticks, even more so than most.

Fears: The feeling of being sucked in by quicksand or deep mud. Alligators and crocodiles.

History:
Mira and her three brothers were abandoned in a swamp before they were old enough to remember their parents' faces. They were taken in by a wolf pack, and thus raised with them. The she-wolves of their pack were coveted and taken well care of, and none had the disposition for fighting or hunting. There were only four females, as opposed to the seven males and all were mated and had cubs, or were carrying them. Mira was automatically herded into their group, and they all tried to raise her to be a submissive little female who would be a strong male's mate one day. She had no interest in this, however, and by the time she hit adolescence she was right up there with the best of the warriors and hunters. She outshone her brothers, though she needed to put a lot more effort into it than they did, and eventually gained the respect of most of the males.

One night, however, two ambitious young wolves decided that to get to the position in the pack that they wanted, they would need to get rid of Mira. They attacked her while she slept, and as soon as she woke, they knocked her unconscious and dragged her away to dump her into the nearest, fastest-moving river they knew of. She woke several times while floating at sea, but would usually end up underwater and get knocked out again from lack of oxygen. It was a wonder she stayed above the surface. A couple of days passed and Mira, starving, cold, thirsty and wet, washed up on the shores of Asper. She was found and taken in by a group of beasts who didn't seem to care what or who she was.

Though it would take much getting used to, Asper already felt like home. She didn't know many of the animals there, but she was welcomed and she didn't feel the need to prove herself like she had in her old pack. She missed her brothers, and hoped for their well-being, but... she was/is happy in her new family, for now.

Desired Position: Outrider

Roleplay Sample:
The red dog coughed and sputtered as she woke on the icy shores of some island she had never heard of. She spit up the salty water she must have inhaled, and sneezed some of the crusted salt from her nose. She felt completely and utterly awful. She couldn't remember the last time she'd eaten, nor was she aware of how much time had passed since being abducted from her sleeping place and thrown into a river. Luckily, she'd swallowed enough fresh water from that river before it emptied out into the ocean to survive for at least a few days.

Finished with her retching, Mira looked up with wobbly vision and tried to crawl farther ashore. She managed to get away from the water before collapsing once more on the snow and ice, then darkness consumed her once more.

When her honey-brown eyes opened next, she was groggy and still very tired. Hunger clawed at her gut like a living thing, but the pain didn't distract her enough that she didn't notice the shapes around her. It was nighttime, but she could just make out the silhouettes of lions and wolves and other creatures everywhere inbetween. Where the heck was she...?

She wasn't left hanging, though, as one of the canines stepped forward and said, "Welcome to Asper."

Discussion Board / Re: Piercing and Tattoo's

But you can't see your back D:

xD That sounds kind of nifty, but I personally wouldn't do that- I love too many things for it all to fit anywhere. c:

I have no piercings or tramp stamps, currently. However, I plan to get two piercings in each ear in the near future from my friend and for my eighteenth birthday I want to get a small coyote pawprint tattooed on my inner wrist. I love coyotes and always will, and I'd like to think I'm a lot like them. It won't be too noticeable, and it won't be big enough to be embarrassing when I'm my grandmother's age.

I've considered planning for other piercings, but I honestly don't want them anywhere but my ears even if lip rings are fun to play with. The only piercings I really am outright against getting for myself, though, are gauges- when you're older, those giant holes in your ears will look awful. x.x

Game Discussion / KEO'S Roleplay Rant
« on: May 20, 2011, 03:09:19 am »
Alright folks, I've just been noticing a lot of things in so-called "realistic" roleplays that don't make much sense, and really ought to downgrade them to "semi-realistic." This is just something I decided to make, because I know a lot of my friends are annoyed by these sorts of things. So, here goes- it's just a rant now, but here's to hoping people learn something from it.

One of the primary things I've been noticing is in the lion RPs, they advertise it as realistic when a realistic pride has 8~25 members, only 2~6 being males depending on size. There is not an even gender ratio in a pride, and the lions that run the pride usually just mate with all the lionesses. If the pride is taken over by a new pair of males, the cubs are killed to make room for the new ones. Cubs two years old leave the pride in bachelor prides or groups of related lionesses to prevent inbreeding, and prides don't accept loners into their ranks- they chase them off.

Realistic lion prides do NOT accept in ligers or leopons, or tigons or anything like that because they aren't lions. Lions and tigers typically don't meet in the wild anymore anyways, because they no longer share similar habitats. The species that used to went extinct long ago, so hybrids do not occur in the wild.

I don't mind so much about this one- realistic colors. If we were going for realistic colors, there would be tan (not brown) lionesses and lions would have a mane anywhere from a blond coloring to black- no red, no gray. There are natural cases of black or white lions, but those are extremely rare. I haven't met many people who really heed this, much. In my opinion, realistic lion RPs can have whatever colors they want as long as they're neutral, earthier tones like browns, grays, tans, blacks, whites- just no blues, greens or purples. That gives more room for creativity.

Wolves and lions don't meet in the wild- the closest thing wolves get to are pumas and wildcats, and lions get hyenas and African wild dogs. Lions compete with leopards and cheetahs, and their prey animals are zebras, gazelles (though much more seldom seeing as lions aren't fast enough to catch those), wildebeest, hippo calves and even the occasional giraffe. There are no white-tailed deer, elk or moose in Africa. On the topic of hunting, adult male lions don't hunt; their manes are too thick and bulky, and will cause them to overheat in a chase as well as make them clumsier. Lions fight off enemies, lionesses hunt. Adolescent males will help the lionesses though, before they have a large mane to hamper them.

Done with my little lion spiel for now- now onto fighting, something that usually happens more than once a day in territorial disputes, fending off thieves and cub-eaters, and other such things.

I see this a lot; one animal, any species, fighting a pack/pride/etc. of another. The group may or may not be power-playing, but it doesn't matter. The one animal usually takes a long time to kill/chase off, even though it's severely outnumbered and frequently smaller than at least a couple of the members of the group. I've seen it as bad as up to a dozen people trying to fend off one SINGLE animal for fifteen minutes, of whom has hardly a scratch on it and isn't exhausted though it's a 12 to 1 fight.

A battle like that should be finished in a couple of minutes, not half an hour. Even if it were a one-on-one match, it wouldn't last that long; in the wild, animals will slap each other around a bit, then someone will take off because they're aware they're outmatched and would prefer to live. When there's a whole group, the "offender" will flee regardless, because they know they can't take on that many opponents no matter how big or strong they are in comparison. The only reason they would really fight is if they were cornered and had no choice; in that case, they would most likely die or be fatally wounded within moments. If they're lucky, they would just be chased off the territory.

I've recently seen several people playing half-starved, exhausted loner characters and when they're faced with a group of bigger, stronger and healthy predators, choose to fight in a realistic RP. The predators may not even want to fight- just get the intruder off their territory or out of their den (not talking about someone just OOC hanging out. Doesn't count, leave those ones alone because chances are, you'll make a fool of yourself trying to get rid of them). Suddenly, this feeble animal can pull ninja moves out of its bum and somehow, it has the talent and just enough strength to defend itself and KILL their foe.

What.

There are also a bunch of people running around playing cubs, both canine and cat that think they can attack an adult something that's four times their size and win without getting their butt spanked, or even catch it though at their age they shouldn't even be able to catch their own tails. They're little pups, but they're spewing obscenities and making threats when they're too young to know what they're even talking about.

Next! My version of a... I don't know what to call it. Just read. :U

I hate it when one species thinks it's automatically better than another for whatever reason- size, population, etc.

First of all, wolves are NOT generally faster than coyotes. Sure, it can happen, but typically a coyote is faster than a wolf and more agile because they're smaller. Granted, wolves are bigger and stronger, but speed and agility are how coyotes make up for it.

Lions won't be able to catch a cheetah who's at full health. A weak cheetah or cheetah cub, maybe. But otherwise, they'll put on the brief burst of speed and a lion won't even bother with trying to catch them because they're not built to travel at those speeds for that long. They're built to be able to take down sturdier prey than cheetahs (who mainly hunt gazelles, since they can catch them and they don't need to be too large to take them down) that can't go as fast.

Dogs and wolves- they're pretty much even, no matter if dogs were domesticated. They can be equally as strong and fast and smart. However, a Chihuahua can't do much when faced with a bigger canine other than book and hope there's a tiny burrow or cave they can squeeze into for protection. They may be vicious little dogs, but they are not ninjas and nor can they yap the wolf to death, though it might deafen them and will probably tick them off.

Coyotes are mostly scavengers, though they will hunt if they're in a pack or the prey is small enough (ex. a fawn, rabbit, mice, other rodents). They tend to linger around wolf packs so they can scavenge the kills. (Aside from that, they usually ignore the wolves and their pups.)

That's all I can think of for now. I may add things later- if I have the attention span- in replies to this topic.

Edit: I would just like to remind you guys to keep it civil. Feel free to discuss this issue as you please, but don't start pointing fingers at anyone! ~arsenicCatnip

. VANE .
Gender: male
Rank Desired: King
Char. Desc.: Vane is a large male lion with faint spotting on his back and rear. He's of a tawny coloring with a pale underbelly and a thick mane a shade darker than the rest of his fur. His eyes are bright green and framed by light fur as well. Though he seems to have a rather indifferent disposition, he relaxes around his pride when circumstance allows and will patiently endure anything the cubs decide to put him through. He will never side with someone before hearing both sides of the story and is a fierce warrior when he needs to be.

Here's the skinny, guys. I'm gonna make three different sections for three different types of my
characters- the main cast, the side characters and the NPCs. The NPCs are just there because
they're pretty and I do occasionally need to entertain myself when Dizzy's pride is all offline.

Plus, I love making random characters for amusement- experimenting with new designs is always
fun.

I may or may not have a picture, and depending on how much I feel like customizing the character,
I'll draw them too.

For main characters, I'll try to include a paragraph or two of personality, a full history and a brief
to long description depending on whether a picture exists or not.

Side characters may get a few lines for history and personality, maybe an appearance if I feel like it.

NPCs will just have something explaining their significance.

MAIN CHARACTERS

[NAME] Syeira
[GENDER] female
[SPECIES] gray wolf
[SEXUALITY] bicurious
[GROUP] The Wanderers' Guild
[RANK] founder/senior member

[PERSONALITY] Syeira is a kind-hearted beast whose main focus is those around her. She thinks every life is precious and does her best to preserve every one she comes across, either by saving them from predators (in the case of one such deer) or offering them food when they're starving. She will never kill anything in its prime, and will only hunt something that is already sick, injured, old or dying. She doesn't have it in her to destroy something with yet a long life to live.

This doesn't mean she is completely spineless, however, and she is a dominant. She's stubborn a good portion of the time and will not back down when challenged. She demands respect and will fight if she needs to protect herself and hers. She is stricken with wanderlust by day, and cannot stay in one place for long without getting jittery and eager to move on. While generally patient with everything else, she is rather impatient before the sun disappears over the horizon.

Author's note: I view Syeira as my guardian or peacekeeper character. She WILL try to stop a feud if she comes across one, and WILL help someone in need.
