Game Help / Issues With Preset Sync
« on: April 15, 2015, 07:26:47 am »
I have installed the preset bittorrent sync in the past on a different computer and it worked perfectly. But something obvious doesn't want to cooperate with me this time on my new laptop.

Alright. I've followed the instructions from [this post] up until the "run bittorrent sync" part. And that's exactly where my problem lies. I can't open the BTSync file whatsoever.

I double clicked the file to open it and my computer asks if I want to run it. I say yes, and then nothing happens. The program doesn't open, I don't see any new windows on my task bar, I checked to see if it was in my task manager, nothing. It just will not run. I've tried re-installing it, but now the install file I downloaded is doing the same thing. It isn't running. I've tested other files to see if they'll work and I have no problems with them at all. It's just this one file...

I've tried again and again and again to open it, and eventually it actually crashes my explorer, causing it to lock up then close itself. I have also completely turned off my virus protection programs to see if they were the problem, but they're not. It's still being stubborn.

---

Okay. So I completely deleted the BTSync files and re-downloaded BitTorrent_Sync to attempt a fresh re-install. I managed to re-install it, but BTSync.exe is doing the same thing, though, this time it keeps creating a .tmp file every time I try to open it... Each of them have a different five digit number on the end of the file's name. Example: "BTSync.exe.12345.tmp"

What exactly is going on?

And if this information helps at all, I am using Windows 8. Has anyone else using Windows 8 tried to install the preset sync and come across any problems?

Forum Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Newbie-Teacher Program

Maybe it would be better with live chat. But then, having both the teacher and student online at the same time might be a little tedious....... Yeah, nvm. PMs would have to do, I guess.

I'm curious to know how many people would qualify to be a teacher. Would a teacher have to know everything, or just certain subjects? Perhaps someone could request a teacher for a certain subject, and that way the teachers aren't pressured to know all of the nooks and crannies of FH. There could be a roleplay teacher, game play/interface teacher, map making teacher, and etc.

Personally, I kinda think something like this would be fun. The only problem might be finding people to volunteer to be a teacher... I myself wouldn't mind being a custom mesh and material code teacher, though.

Ah, alright. It just behaves a lot like a adware. I've seen it happen before on my sister's computer with every website, and she actually had adware, so I was a bit worried.

Is it just me, or is this forum ad infested...?

I get random words that are linked with a double underline, and when you hover over them, an ad pops up. It's really annoying. Before you tell me that I have adware on my computer, this is the ONLY website that does this to me. It's been this way since I came back recently.

Just to double check, I am currently scanning my computer. But before I get the results of this scan, I want to know if I'm not the only one seeing all of these annoying ads.

Or just put a master FAQ post in the help section for whatever isn't already covered. You could link some tutorials in the FAQ post if that's what people are asking about.

Although, I do think this teacher thing would be an interesting idea. But how exactly would we go about getting this program to work? I haven't been to Wolf Quest, so I don't know how they're doing it.

Also, at Bawfle, I'm not sure what you mean by "Having the idea of the game becoming more like a School could have the potential to drive people away" The point isn't to turn this place into a school, it's to give those who are new and seeking help a useful guide.

I think it would be a great idea! You could turn on/off the ability for other people to pick you up in the options menu. It would send you a request to be picked up, and you'd click yes or no. You could turn in on for that moment that it needs to be while roleplaying, then turn it back off right after to avoid spam.

I also think it's a bit rude of you guys to call this a bothersome feature. With the right tools, it can very much be the opposite. Perhaps a shortcut key could be used to turn it on and off as well so you don't have to keep opening the options menu. If anyone spams you, you can always report or block them. And spamming could easily be avoided by simply turning the pickup option off.
