Other Games / Re: IW: Furthest Reach - Big Update !!
« on: May 26, 2020, 04:10:15 am »
I also apologize for bumping this old thread, but the website was hosted on sitegrounds and was compromised (I don't know the reason why, though i suspect errors occurred when the site switched domain names.) Development has slowed significantly due to real life responsiblities and the development team has pulled all teaser content as it misrepresented what they wanted to show. They're hoping to relaunch development of the game sometime this year. The discord server is still somewhat active however and you can access it and their other social media via Linktree. Please remember to read their discord's rules upon joining. https://linktr.ee/furthestreach

Forum Discussion / Regarding Ad.fly
« on: May 26, 2020, 03:46:01 am »
Please, god, find another way to generate revenue to keep the servers running!

I'm aware that the issue only effects mediafire links [as far as I know] but there have been several instances in the past and present of my antivirus detecting dangerous files [unwanted downloads, or links to dangerous sites] when trying to use Adfly. This is completely unacceptable on a forum that is accessible to and used by children/minors who may be exposed to pornographic or otherwise dangerous content and malware, especially on computers that may be owned by the family, don't have adequate antivirus software, or don't have adblocking capabilities. Without a competent adblocker, Ad.fly's proxy interface becomes redunant as the webpage is filled with popups and malicious links to download programs such as "open software updater," which has been regarded as adware that bundles with other potentially unwanted programs. Fake, "sketchy" download pages and links are especially dangerous as they may confuse some users into downloading dangerous software, when in reality they want whatever preset, map, etc they saw on the forums. Even when the user waits on the webpage and avoids Adfly's advertisements, the website will still redirect to websites that load dangerous scripts and/or attempt to download unwanted programs, as well as occasionally play fake audio that claims the user's computer has been infected with a virus and that they should install an even sketchier antivirus. Adfly may claim on their website that their advertisements are "strictly family-safe with no popups" and that "anti-virus and malware servers are scanning the adverts 24/7" but this is COMPLETELY falsified.
Until the issue is addressed it would be far easier and safer for users to link to downloads on Google Drive or Dropbox.
There are also Chrome extensions to bypass Adfly completely. Here is one for Firefox.

I suggest using Patreon (Lite) as a way to fund the servers. Of course there is no way to ensure that it would be effective until enough people have pledged. There is always a 5% fee + processing costs, there has to be a way to gather enough incentive to pledge in the first place, and there's no guarantee that the measly ~100-200 people that play the game as it is would be able to afford pledges to the Patreon page, given the fact that the userbase is very diverse in both age and financial abilities. I don't know how much the game server and website cost yearly to run, if they are based on monthly payments, etc, but based on averages as little as $75 a month on Patreon could potentially fund them.

ungodlycoyote, it should function the same when you use an XBOX 360 controller.

Everyone else, thank you!!! <3

Hello there! Recently I've been playing with a controller far more than a keyboard, so I'd thought I'd try to adapt Feralheart controls to a PS4 controller.
This makes use of a program called Antimicro (at the moment) that is still in development. It has not been updated in over 3 years, but it still functions on Windows 10. This may not work for MAC OS and Linux systems.
Of course, you will still need a keyboard and mouse for typing, and selecting buttons.

Download Antimicro 2.23
Download controller preset

Downloads should begin automatically.
Antimicro is hosted on Github, and I have scanned all files to confirm that it does not contain any malicious viruses or malware.
Any complaints from your antivirus are false positives, particularly because it is not a well-known program.

!! Step 1: Make sure your controller is connected and recognized !!

This is the most important step!

Plug your PS4 Controller into your PC via USB cable. If you would rather use Bluetooth, here is an external tutorial on how to accomplish this.
The port that a PS4 controller uses is the same type as an Android phone, I used an old phone charger I had lying around, this is how I connected my controller to my PC.
You can buy cheap android chargers from mostly any store if you do not have one. I would recommend it is atleast 3-5ft so they can reach around your computer to your desk/hands.

Antimicro will not work if your controller does not have the correct drivers.
Windows 10 should automatically detect and install the necessary drivers for your PS4.

Once Windows 10 gives you a notification that says your "wireless controller" has been recognized, download Antimicro and my controller preset file.

Once downloaded, extract Antimicro from it's zip file.
You may need a program like winzip or winrar to do this.

I recommend extracting the folder either to your desktop, or another easy-to-access place.
Here, I have extracted it to the Feralheart root folder.
The folder will not mess with the game itself in any way if you put it there.

Open the new folder and run antimicro. You can ignore all of the hubbajubba and extra folders for now.
Ignore the security warning; it only pops up because the developer did not include a publisher.
Hit "run."

When Antimicro first opens, it needs to recognize your buttons on your controller.
Click the button that says "controller mapping."

You will then need to manually input buttons so that Antimicro recognizes them. It will display an XBOX controller, but the function and layout is virtually the same on a PS4 controller.
All of this will be empty when you first open it.
Press the buttons in order, this is fairly straight forward.
If you make a mistake, you can click on the box with the error and correct it.

For reference, here is my string.

Once you have done this, hit "save."

Now that you have mapped your buttons, the interface should look like this.

Hit "load."
Now, find the controller preset that you previously downloaded, and hit "open."

Everything should automatically load in. Launch Feralheart, login and play!

You must leave Antimicro running in the background or else Feralheart will not recognize button input.

Introduction / Re: Hi again!

Ahh thank you all for the warm welcomes back!!

Ame88, I believe it was a mixture of incorrectly packing objects into their own groups while simultaneously using the groups that came with them, as most of the objects I used were modded in, simply having too many objects in one map (I wanted it to have about the same visual detail as Skyrim) and trying to export it overloaded the game's memory or some other factor. I did try to go in and reexport it several times, but it had the same error and eventually the map wouldn't load at all, so the files themselves had become corrupted and were useless.

Morqque, Likuu: I accomplished it last night!! Unfortunately it makes use of a program called Antimicro that isn't very user-friendly as it's still in development. Plus, I'm trying to map it so all buttons have functions. Of course, you would only be able to move, use your character's power (flight/dash), swim/fly up and down, move the camera, etc. You wouldn't be able to type or anything like that without a keyboard. I wish you could use the d-pad to select and highlight buttons and then use X like a mouseclick, but sadly I do not think that Feralheart supports that in this version of OGRE currently. I think I'll post the tutorial with screenshots in the Miscellaneous Tutorials section tonight or sometime tomorrow.

Introduction / Hi again!
« on: August 04, 2019, 08:56:10 pm »
Hello all!

Returning member from 2014, though I vaguely remember playing this game when I was a wee stupid youngchild. I was a bit active in 2017 when I was still mostly a wee stupid youngchild, but now I've been? Thrown? Into The Horrible Hands of Adulsthood and Everything Is On Fire. I'm still a wee stupid youngchild rlly idk how to do anything.
I dropped the game mid February 2017, when I was deep into making an expansive map pack that ... unfortunately corrupted itself when I tried to export it to submit it to the mapmaking contribution/"calling all talented creators" threads :( Made my 17 year old self very very mad, I had lost dozens of hours of work, so I let the Feralheart root folder sit on my harddrive for a few months before completely deleting it.
Recently this game has been hounding my thoughts, it was a very good creative outlet for me! I've been exhausted via working retail (do it for the experience but prepare for the mental anguish) for a few months now and I'm pondering withdrawing from or atleast taking an extended hiatus from University as I have no desire to study at all, I just want to create. Map and preset-making were almost therapeutic. I'd figured I would pop back in again and see how things were going.
Ecstatic to see that we finally have the source code!!

I'm always open for any roleplays, be it in Feralheart, another game, or in the forums. I also play The Endless Forest quite a bit under the username Shey, and you can find a lot of them under my blog entries, or on my Toyhouse @snarpo.

Currently trying to figure out how to map the controls to a PS4 controller/DPAD so if you see my characters freaking out in the Grounds thats probably why lol. I might? Post a tutorial sometime soon on how to play with one? Perhapeth?

Also! I will probably not be very active on the forums, I like to lurk, so you are free to add me on steam (snarpo), or follow me on twitter and tumblr @SVTURNVL ! My twitter and tumblr are both my art accounts so maybe take a peek there too..

Media / INKARNATE - Map Maker for Roleplays
« on: March 04, 2017, 01:04:12 am »
What is Inkarnate?

Inkarnate Worlds is a web-based cartography tool that allows you to quickly and easily illustrate your fantasy worlds. It was created by reddit user nickrart almost a year ago and is still in the open beta stage, but you can sign up on the website to start creating maps. This can be very useful for fantasy roleplays, or just in general roleplays that need a map but you don't want to draw it up yourself. :)

"The goal of Inkarnate - Worlds is allow DMs to map out their custom campaign worlds in as much detail as they desire. We have aimed to make the tool easy to pick up and use by a 'non-artist', but also providing enough customization for power users and artists."

Youtube Video by WASD20 that explains it a bit more than I do.

In the coming weeks, the team is planning on bringing Inkarnate to commercial light and adding more map styles to create, such as a more parchment world style and the capability to flesh out cities.

How do I use it?
Visit inkarnate.com to access the tool. You must sign up for beta at the top left first! Check your email after registering so you can login and start making maps.
After logging in you'll be redirected to an empty map maker. The icons to the left are pretty straightforward - hover over them to see their tooltips and what they do. There is a toolbar at the top of the program that lets you change options of the tools. To the left of the toolbar is your account icon, where you can see all of your created maps and edit them if you want.

Use the Sculpt Tool to add or erase land mass. You can change the brush size to add more detail/
The texture tool will allow you to paint the terrain to your liking. There are a variety of different parchment and land textures to choose from.
Objects such as a compass, towns, castles, and icons can be placed and manipulated with the Object tool.
The Pattern Tool lets you add trees, hills, and mountains to your map.
The Text Tool is used to add... surprise! text! to your maps.
The grid tool adds a square/hex overlay to your map so it reflects lines of longitude/latitude or general designated areas. You can change the color, size, and opacity of it. If you don't like the grid effect and want to get rid of it just set opacity to 0.
The note tool lets you add little location icons that you can view in the user panel later. You can't see notes in the general editing/overview, though - you have to click on the note tool to bring them up again [they weren't magically deleted or not saved! they're just hiding]

To delete objects after you place them, make sure you're on the "Select" setting at the top, then highlight them and select "Delete" from the dropdown that pops up.
To save your maps, click the "save" button, which is the second-to-last icon. This saves the map to your account so you can access and/or edit it later.

To download the map, click the "export" button. You'll get a popup that lets you save it as a .jpeg image. Name it what you want and voila! You're finished. :)

I've finished a small chunk of the forest in Aelaemel. :)
