I wanna introduce you all to Freedom Planet
« on: January 19, 2017, 07:28:57 am »
Note: If I make any spelling mistakes, please forgive me.

Freedom Planet is my number one favourite video game. However, it is also one of the most forgotten video games in the world, which is surprising because mostly the looks of the characters would attract lots of anime fans. Freedom Planet is a combat-based platformer created and published by GalaxyTrail. The story takes place on a fictional Earth-like planet called Avalice, which is inhabited by anthropomorphic animals. The planet is part of a united system of planets known as the 'Coalition of Planets’ and is nicknamed “Freedom Planet” because all the animals are safe from humans harming them. The animals of Avalice has depended on the Kingdom Stone for thousands of years. The Kingdom Stone is a crystal orb that transfers advanced energy to all across Avalice. Here is a picture of the Kingdom Stone.

So anyways, in the present, the Kingdom Stone is running out of energy, causing a three way war game with the three nations of Avalice, Shang Mu, Shang Tu and Shuigang, to see who will get the last amount of energy to survive.
Meanwhile beyond the galaxy, an evil alien warlord named Lord Arktivus Brevon and his army of drones are destroying hundreds of planets and killing and corrupting thousands of heroes. He even ending up almost wiping out the Chasers! A space military alienating with many different worlds, which protects the galaxy from evil intergalactic threats, only one of the soldiers surviving. His name is Torque, or you could call him Commander Torque. This is what Torque looks like.

And this is what Lord Brevon looks like.

I know! He’s pretty scary, right? Xander Barriga was fantastic at voicing Brevon! Well anyways, when the warlord learns about Avalice, he attempts to destroy it, but Avalice’s defences manage to fight Brevon off, forcing him to make a crash landing. Brevon is angry about this, so as revenge, he plans to steal the Kingdom Stone in order to power his ship (Which is called the Final Dreadnought) and continue his galactic conquest, as well as destroying Avalice for pleasure.
While Brevon is on Avalice, his army attack Shuigang and kill the king. Brevon uses his most loyal robot Syntax to brainwash the prince and get him to go to the evil side. The prince is named Dail. This is what he looks like. (I only found this drawing of him)

Brevon also offers a snake named Serpentine some mechanical arms, but this was a trick by Brevon to get Serpentine to the evil side too. The snake is infected with a virus from the mechanical arms, making him loyal to Brevon.
Meanwhile three days later in outer space, Torque is getting revenge on Lord Brevon for killing his entire crew. (Well except him) Torque flies over Avalice to look for Lord Brevon, until the Shuigang army destroy his ship. Down in Dragon Valley, a deep valley in the wilderness of Shang Mu, an orphan dragon and wildcat named Sash Lilac and Carol Tea, notice Torque crash land and go off to help him. This is what Lilac looks like.

And this is what Carol looks like.

So the pair save Torque as the alien is being attacked by Serpentine. Lilac and Carol invite Torque to stay at their place while he recovers from shock. After Torque does, he reveals that Shang Mu is planning an attack on the Kingdom Stone shrine, and Lilac and Carol would love to protect the Kingdom Stone and save it. Unfortunately the girls fail, but they do meet a cute little orphan puppy named Milla Basset after she rescues Carol when the wildcat is knocked unconscious from falling rocks, when the shrine is collapsing due to the damage that the Shang Mu army did. This is what Milla looks like.

After Carol’s awakening, she and Lilac befriend Milla and the puppy goes to their treehouse with them where they live. That night Torque reveals that he is an alien on a quest to defeat Lord Brevon. He asks Lilac, Carol and Milla to help him defeat Lord Brevon, since Torque doesn’t know as much about Avalice as Lilac, Carol and Milla. The girls have the courage and bravery to go and defeat Lord Brevon and his army and save Avalice from destruction, as well as stopping the war.
So the whole game is just basically about Lilac, Carol, Milla and Torque going on an adventure to fight Lord Brevon. If you love battles in video games, Freedom Planet is the game for you, since the entire game is fighting your way through the level as you come across Brevon’s evil robots, and there are mostly two or three boss battles in each level.

The graphics of Freedom Planet look like that of the Sega Dreamcast. And the two things i love about Freedom Planet is the storyline and the soundtrack. Oh my gosh the soundtrack. ITS FANTASTIC! All thanks to the genius music composer, Leila Wilson. Oh and you might be able to hear the soundtrack of Freedom Planet on the Feral Heart radio soon as well.
There are about fourteen levels in the game, each with their own unique style and looks. The game’s style was inspired by Gunstar Heroes, Megaman X and Sonic the Hedgehog. My favourite level is the first round of Final Dreadnought, as the level is full of epic moments as you make your way through the stage, like one part where Lord Brevon says “GET THEM!” and then hundreds of robots start attacking you. My favourite boss is the Holodragon from the Pangu Lagoon level. It's this massive blue dragon and it's one of the biggest boss battles I've ever seen in a video game. The music during the fight is intense and emotional too.

There are three playable characters. Lilac, Carol and Milla, each having their own unique abilities. In the Wii U version of the game, you can play as Torque and the rebellious half-brother of Prince Dail called Spade. Unlike in most platformers, you don’t jump on enemies to damage them. You use a series of fierce and wild attacks. Oh and this is what Spade looks like.

So the platforms you can play Freedom Planet on are Windows and Wii U. Unfortunately you couldn’t play Freedom Planet on a Macintosh unless if you watch this video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOFfW3aasro&t=25s
Here are some more pictures of gameplay from Freedom Planet.

If you love video games with cute little animals, combinations of science fiction and fantasy, amazing storytelling, epic soundtrack, old school graphics and combat styled gameplay, then Freedom Planet is for you! I highly recommend it, although I have to warn you that the game has a lot of dark moments in it, such as Lilac getting tortured. And whenever you get hurt by an enemy, its not too bad, but your character flashes red to represent blood. (Apparently, the game aims at children twelve and over)
Heres the trailer for Freedom Planet. It is epic! Especially that intro! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMEmcVRNZvI&t=1s
