IMPORTANT NOTICE: We will no longer accept akitas, wolf-dogs, huskies, or German shepherds. We have enough as it is. Please, for the sake of the Soudaishou, PICK MORE ORIGINAL BREEDS.

Dogs of Japan

It's that familiar thrumming in your chest. Your heart's racing. Fear has caressed, and then coiled, the emotions running in your blood. The strange scents of canines fuels this nearly inexplicable fear. It's this fear that drives your paws, you legs, your movements, your mind to keep pressing on. And press on you do, despite every cell in your body screaming for you to stop. You can feel every inch of your body soaked to the bone from the pouring rain. It's this deluge that blinds you to the landscape -- a thick, spring forest -- and mixes all the befuddling scents. Time seems not to exist in this seemingly other-worldly woodland. Everything -- aside from the rain -- is at a standstill. Save for the bouncing, glowing orbs running on either side of you. They were the owners of the various odors and the shadows that created the alien rustle of a leaf.

You're in someone else's territory.

You now know why fear has gripped you. And now, you're even more desperate than before to escape this place. But before you're able to register another thought, the undergrowth around you recedes into a large plain settled on a hill. While your limbs still pound the earth like mad pistons, you immediately noticing the enormous rock fortress towering before you. You fail to notice the many canines, lupines and vulpines herding you closer to it. You seem to automatically keep running, until the moon-cast shadow of the rock fortress swathes you in a blanket of cool air.

Slowing to a crawl, you find your chest grazing the ground. You eventually grind to a halt, poised in a begging position. You gulp as you fixate your eyes on the few fierce-looking brute dogs crowning the top of the stone pile. They gaze down at you firmly for several long minutes.

You notice that your mouth is slightly ajar and close it quickly, only to gulp hard. You then notice the top dogs turning their head as a relatively small dog -- an orange akita -- ascends to the throne of the fortress. Unlike the other canines, his gaze is soft and welcoming, almost too inviting for the haunting atmosphere. A crisp, late-day breeze tickles the fur of everyone present, and as if the wind were some divine intervention, everything calms. The dogs, wolves, and foxes all around you ease themselves into casual positions, grouping into leisurely conversations and engage in idle chit-chat.

Confused, you yourself fall on your rump and look around. This was not what you had expected, but you now start to feel a new emotion bubbling from all around. This was home -- no -- this was paradise.

You hear the sound of loose gravel and turn your head in time to see the orange akita descending to ground level, followed by his elites. Upon closer inspection, you realize that he's little older than a year. Once he manages to leap off the last boulder, he saunters over to you, smiles softly, and says, "Welcome to Ohu."

Current News

July 19th, 2011;; The map has been a hit so far! Thanks again, Suo! In other news, we now have a forum, thanks to Tsurara! Make sure you register on it and post your character there! The character section has been removed from this post!

July 18th, 2011;; Big news, everyone! From the courtesy of Suo, we now have a map! Be sure to check it out in the map section, located just below the application form. C:

July 14th, 2011;; We're gonna' stop looking for platoon leaders now. We have found three already, and now we're looking for warrior pre-joiners. We're still looking for a mapmaker, so in the meantime, we'll be a nomadic pack living in Fluorite Plains. If worse comes to worse, I will attempt to make a map pack myself (never done one before, but...). Hopefully we'll be able to pull together.

July 12th, 2011;; We aren't officially open, but are accepting pre-joiners. We are looking for platoon leaders at this time, so take the time to apply if the position tickles your fancy. Warrior pre-joiners are welcome as well. Allies & enemies will be wanted at a later date.

What we are really looking for is an experienced mapmaker who can make a map pack. If you're a mapmaker and are willing to, let me know and I'll give you the details.

The Group & the Rules

Dogs of Japan, or DoJ, is the revival of a group loosely based off of Ginga Nagareboshi Gin and Ginga Densetsu Weed. In short, it has the same basic plot, timeline, and setting, only with different characters. It will mainly take place in Ohu, but there will be various other places throughout Japan. The roleplay takes place in the late 1800s and possibly early 1900s.

1) Your character does not have to be a dog, nor does it have to be a canine native to Japan. We accept dogs, wolves, and foxes, mainly, but if you choose to play something like a coyote, that's fine, too. We aren't very strict on this rule, for we love variety, but the least you can do is have a good reason. For one, they could be illegally imported as exotic pets, or maybe even escape from the Ueno Zoo (since it opened around the time the plot takes place). Feel free to be a wolfdog (wolf + dog), coydog (coyote + dog) or a foxdog (fox + dog). All three do exist, but the latter two are far and few between.

2) Names DO NOT have to be Japanese. BUT, they must be something other than "Princess" or "Frou-frou", etc. Common names are fine. Rare names are fine. Made-up names are fine.

3) Gender ratios do not need to be even. And, no, you do not have to be male, even if most of the dogs in GNG/GDW are mostly thus.

4) Realism. We'd like it to be mostly realistic. If it's something similar to the GNG or GDW worlds, then so be it. All characters are subject to approval, even if they are 100% realistic, anyways. We may be a tad lenient.

5) Character limit. We currently have a limit of one character per person. No more, no less, until further notice.

6) INTERACTION. One of our most important rules, we want interaction. We do not want to keep people out of the roleplay. It's just not cool. If you see someone being left out, be a sport and somehow get them to participate. If you feel left you, assert yourself into the roleplay. Never whine about being left out. Half the time, it's your own fault for feeling isolated, so make yourself known. This doesn't mean you need to hog the spotlight. Just interact.

7) Mating is to be done through whispering or whatever if it gets graphic. None, or rather, most, of us don't want to see your male screwing around with a female or vice versa. Same thing for giving birth; keep that between you and your mate. If you do decide to have pups, let MafiaRaptor know. Please include how many pups are being birthed so that pup positions can be put up for grabs.

8 ) Pup positions will be unavailable unless pups are born during the roleplay. All pups must resemble one of the parents, or will have to be a mix of the two. Make sure to use a reference of mixed pups if the breed exists. If not, feel free to spice the pup up within our limitations (i.e. - you cannot add spots on the pup if neither of the parents have spots, etc.).

9) Literacy is a must. This is a literate roleplay group, ergo, your posts must have some meat to them. We will allow semi-literate roleplayers to join if they manage to use correct spelling, punctuation, etc. and avoid one-liners. One-liners are not an option here.

10) Godmodding, powerplaying, and auto-hitting/killing are all prohibited. An example of this is: "So-and-so bite on randomcanine's neck and ripped out flesh, killing randomcanine instantly". We do not want to see this ruining our roleplay. It is more than a pet peeve. If we see any of this, you will get the boot. This does not mean your canine gets to dodge every attack. Evade and get hit within reason. Do not kill another canine without permission.

11) Deaths. Yep, we have a rule on this. Yep, your canine is allowed to die. But only if you've been roleplaying with it for at least two months. You make your canine for this group so you can roleplay with it, not see if die in a pool of its own blood. Gosh, that'd be pretty rude of you. But if you decide to let your canine die, have an idea for a back-up one if you want to continue roleplaying with us.

12) Activity. Is. A. Must. The only way to keep DoJ going is if the blood -- that's you -- continues to remain in contact with the heart -- that's MafiaRaptor. Failure to communicate without word for ten days will result in you getting kicked. You're more than welcome to come back to us when you're ready to commit. We currently do not have a limit on how many times you're allowed to be kicked and come back without banishment, but if it keeps happening, you will eventually get ousted permanently.

13) You cannot join without filling out an application. You must fill out everything on the application form before joining. Do not submit it incomplete or as a WIP for that just makes our thread ugly. Take your time. There is no rush.

14) WHEN YOU JOIN: Please add "DoJ" to the end of your character's name so we can identify you in-game and allow us to re-invite you in case of the notorious group glitch. Do NOT add the acronym until you are registered here and have officially joined in-game. You will be in charge of finding MafiaRaptor in-game and ask for an invite. You can send a request, but we'd rather have it done in person. It is merely a safety precaution. (Please see the bottom of the application section to see extra information on adding the acronym.)

15) WHEN YOU JOIN: You must register on our forum with your character's name as your Display Name.

16) Downloads: You must be able to download maps and presets as we do, indeed, roleplay on a map and we do, indeed, use presets (not everyone, but still).

Current Plot

Full Name: Remus
Nickname(s): Boss
Age: 4
Gender: Male
Rank: Platoon Leader
Species: Dog
Breed: German Shephard
Personality: Remus is a strong-willed and tough canine. But he does have a soft spot for pups. It takes a while to earn his trust, since he has a history of betrayal and loss. His gentle side is rarely seen, but once it is, it is hard to see him as the firm and fearless leader he appears to be. He loves to run and even more loves to roll around in grassy areas.
History: Almost as soon as he was born, he was ripped away from his mother and placed in a hard-core training facility. But unlike the other pups there, he find it hard to fit in and the exercises strenuous and difficult to cope with. Instead of making him stronger, they put scars on his skin and made his paws bleed. After one year, he escaped with some other dogs one night, fleeing to a farm yard where he hid. He had gotten separated from the others he fled with but the farmer took him in as a guard dog to protect rice patties from birds and other pests. Remus did his job well but was challenged by some dogs that lived in the area. They gained up on him and chased him out of the town. He soon ended up in a busy city where he walked the streets on his own. He there gained the trust of a stray Akita who he became best friends with. Until one day his friend led him to a place where he was captured by humans and put in a dog fighting ring. Because of this betrayal, he fought roughly in the ring. Full of anger wondering why his friend had betrayed him. He was almost too far gone and filled with hate when he was talked back into sense by a dog who had been betrayed by the same dog he had made friends with. He freed the dog and himself and ran to take vengeance on the Akita that locked him away. But he never found him. To this day he vows to find that Akita and put him in his place. But at least he is content with his new family by his side.
Roleplay Sample: "I vow to atone for the sins I have committed. They are numerous and filled  heart with such regret." Remus said as he bent his head in shame. His fur blowing lightly in the wind, as a gust of wind swept through theforest in which the dogs inhabited. "If only I could turn back time..." He muttered to himself and closed his eyes and imagined what could have been and fell asleep, placing his muzzle on his paws.

Full Name: Lundkaon
Nickname(s): Lund,lundy
Age: 4
Gender: Female
Rank: Platoon Leader
Species: Fox
Breed:Red fox
Personality: Lundkaon is fairly calm, she judges not harshly but her temper can sometimes get the best of her. She will always treat her pack-mates with respect until they have lost it. She is usally a bit colder to outsiders as she does not trust easily. She is strong willed and will do everything to protect what she cares about. Her rather bitter-sweet personality can sometimes confuse others as she doesnt give away ful detials on her feelings.

History: Lundkaon once belonged to a pack known as the under-takers (UT). After her pack had split up and gone there seperate ways Lundkaon found it hard to accept the fact she had to move on. Living alone for so long gave her a bitter attitude towards others and her trsut became thin and hard to gain. Putting her past behind her Lundkaon has decided that its time to move on and start a new begging.

Roleplay Sample: The wind tore viciously at her fur as she trudged hopelessly throught the bitter never ending night that had fallen before her. Rasing her dome to the sky she prayed for some way out, her orbs in meer slits as she searched the sky for an answer. Nothing but darkness lay before her and she soon realised she was on her own. Rain poured down heavily around her, filling all the crevices and caves with the endless amount of water. A crash of lightening broke through her troubled thoughts and lit the world around her, suddenly a hope flared deep within her as she spotted a cave that had been raised from the ground. Without hesitation she scampered quickly as a mouse across the drenched forest floor, scrapping her belly along the sharp rocks she pulled herself into the warm and dry cave. She let a long breathe escape her maw as she bent over to lick the water dropplets that clung to her fur. Finishing she curled herself into a tight ball, drawing in a breathe, the nights crispt air filled her lungs as she layed her head down curcled tightly to her body. Her eye lids seemed to have weights attached as they closed tightly, soon the balckness consumed her as she feel into a deep slumber.

Hello! (: My name's Suo. It seems like you have an influx of Platoon leaders, but do you think I could snag that position for my character, Shoukao? I'll make her an application in just a second.

Sorry for the lack of faster replies today, everyone.
I was at a theme park all day. xD

ANYWAYS~

@Fang: Thanks, I'll be sure to add you the minute I'm able. ^^
Lastly, please find or whisper me in-game when you get the chance so I can add you to the group.
And don't forget to add PLDoJ at the end of your character's name so we can recognize you as a platoon leader and a member of DoJ.

@Suo: I'd like to see the app first, if that's alright. c: If you're accepted, you'll probably be the last platoon leader until further notice.

Full Name: Shoukao, originally named Chibibara
Nickname(s): She goes by Shou and Shoukao.
Age: One year old.
Gender: The gender of your canine. No its allowed.
Rank: Platoon Leader
Species: Dog.
Breed: Brindle Akita Inu
Personality: Shoukao can be summed up in a multitude of words-- Spitfire, Hot-headed, Strong, Stategic, and Tenacious. Shou is an active little creature, eager to give in her input and suceed at whatever she's aiming to do. She's not one to back down, which in some moments can be a good thing, however in others it has caused her to fight many battles and earn many scars. The fiery Akita has a strong voice, and can be persuasive with her vocalization of her thoughts, ideas and beliefs. Although her temper usually gets the best of her, Shoukao tries to stick to whatever operation she maps out, and will only rethink her course in the most dire of situations. This Akita would risk her life for her close friends, and this trait was among a few that eanred her the title of Platoon leader. The young, female dog got her position through her Bravery, Intelligence, Agility and Voice.
History: Chibibara was born on a crisp autumn morning in a small woodland area, just as the sun began to shatter in through the leaves. She was one of three-- her and her two brothers, Akachou and Kuroji. Her parents were the beloved dogs of a rich merchant and his family, and they lived in the woods in a hidden away, humbled cabin.  She was a treasure to her parents, and her father absolutely adored his little angel.

One day her and her brothers were out playing in the moor by their owner's territory, the trio was attacked by an angry badger. The badger grabbed Chibibara and threw her down a gorge leading to a river, where her face was half torn on the jagged rocks. Her brother's escaped to home, but Chibibara couldn't move.

A group of dogs happened to wander by, and their "leader" - an Australian Shepard named Weston - picked her up and brought her back to him and his pack's den. He personally renamed her Shoukao, and when the little pup woke up, he told her shocking words--

"Hello, little dollface, little Shou kao. Shoukao. Your time to die wasn't now, no-- you've a future ahead of you, little doll, you've got a life of stength and love ahead of you. I know, Dollface, Ningyo kao, It's cheesy, but I just know it."

So she stuck around until her wandering eye and taste for adventure led her to discover Ohu, where she now resides.
Roleplay Sample:
"Right paw forward, boys! Make sure you keep your balance during this lunge!"
The minuscule clearing in the patch of woods behind Chibibara's house was currently occupied by her father, Tetsuo, and her brothers, Akachou and Kuroji. The three males were practicing their battles moves-- a skill that would be important to the young akita pups if they were ever to be sold  as guard dogs. Chibibara could only watch from behind the trunk of a withering oak tree, her orangey eyes fixated on the sport taking place ahead of her.
"Akachou, do the Right Paw Lunge on Kuroji!" Her father's loud commands rang through the trees. The red tora-ge akita lunged towards his brother, a dark brindle, and gently swiped him with a paw. Not much, but they were only pups after all.
Chibibara watched as her brothers tumbled around in an attempt to battle. "That's pathetic," she growled to herself, "they're such losers! I could fight better than them. I know it! Why can't I fight?" The reason was because Tetsuo loved his precious daughter too much-- she was too delicate for the sport of guarding and fighting. He couldn't let ANYTHING happen to her!
'I wanna be a fighter. It's not fair!' She bitterly thought to herself before turning away and heading back home, making her way through the sun-lit forest trails.

picture will be up when I finish her preset (:

NEWS HAS BEEN UPDATED

@Suo: Awesome. c:
Shoukao is accepted as a platoon leader.
I will add her as soon as her image is up.
All you need to do is add PLDoJ to the end of your character's name so we can recognize you as a platoon leader and a member of DoJ.
And you need to find or whisper me in-game for an invite.

FOR EVERYONE WHO NEEDS TO
I'll most likely be on all day seeing as I have very little to do, so just drop me a whisper.
My in-game name is MafiaRaptor. Make sure you're on your character when you do.

FULL NAME: Winter
NICKNAME(S): Wint, Winter
AGE: 3
GENDER: Female
RANK: Warrior, fighter or/and hunter
SPIECES Canine
BREED: Half Wolf, Half husky
PERSONALITY: Winter is a very loyall dog who will never abandon a comrade in a loosing battle or leave a pup to die in the jaws of an enemy. She is very protective and true to her heart. Once you are her friend, she will have your back covered for the rest of your life. She loves pups, but her true passion if for fighting and defending her homeland. She is friendly and eager to do anything her pack asks of her.
HISTORY: Winter's father was the strong leader of a wolf pack, whos' territory resides far, far away across the mountains. Winter's mother was a prue-bred husky who left her owner to be with the handsome feirce wolf. She gave birth to Winter, who was the only pup of her litter of six to survive the harsh cold winter season, giving her a well deserved name. Her mother's owner came looking for his dog after the three years she had been gone, and Winter's mother had to abandon the den with the rest of the pack. Winter was taken by her mother's owner, unknowing it was his own dog's daughter. She lived for a few months in an animal shelter. No one wanted to adopt her for fear of her wild inner wolf arising and harming their family. She escaped the pound, longing to be back with her pack, and she wandered through the city, becoming lost and alone.

Roleplay Sample:  Winter leaped across the river, planting her paws firmly on the other side and propelling herslef forward through the forrest. She climbed a hill and skirted around the border scent of a badger. She was on the hunt for a pack, as always. Being fully capable to survive on her own, she still wanted to contribute more to the world than just getting by like a scavenger. She trotted in between the pine trees, loving the fluffy snow under her equally white paws. The last time she could remember ahving a pack to keep warm and sleep with was when she was a pup. The wind whispering through the trees comforted her, carrying scents of the world around her. She loved the wild. She loved being a part of nature. Never again would she go back to that smelly human city. Fences and loud humans were greedy and selfish. They do not own me, and they never will keep me in a cage again.
