The 8 pings summoned both the discord server and the fungus creature back from the grave. Maybe we should make it 9 next time and see who else we can revive

But in all seriousness, it's awesome to see you back!

Game Discussion / Re: FeralHeart and GPU usage
« on: July 10, 2019, 03:52:32 am »
I believe the game uses more CPU than GPU, especially since most of the community is probably running on Intel based laptops.
My CPU is a Intel i7-6700 and my GPU is a Radeon RX 480 8GB. Should be plenty to handle this game like this, but i'm not sure if it's optimization or what that that sometimes makes the game itself lag. (but not my computer lag)

I made the survey based on my own quick look at my task manager and saw that GPU was being used the most heavily. I will add a section about CPU as well, though. Thank you!

Game Discussion / FeralHeart and GPU usage
« on: July 10, 2019, 03:34:48 am »
Hi! I know I'm not a very active member of this community, but I had a thought after my computer bluescreened while FH was open: how resource-heavy is FH as an application? So I pulled up FH next to my task manager and made a character. Here's what I found:
> While simply loading the game and sitting on the title screen, the FH used up about 70% of my computer's GPU.
> While in the character creation and selection screens, FH used between 50-60% of my computer's GPU.
> While sitting in Lonely Cave, FH used anywhere from 40-60% of my computer's GPU.
> When I tabbed out of the game, it hovered around 15-30% GPU.

What's all that mean? If you're like me and had no idea what a GPU or a CPU was until about 15 minutes ago, here's a quote from an article I found:
Quote
Architecturally, the CPU is composed of just few cores with lots of cache memory that can handle a few software threads at a time. In contrast, a GPU is composed of hundreds of cores that can handle thousands of threads simultaneously. The ability of a GPU with 100+ cores to process thousands of threads can accelerate some software by 100x over a CPU alone. What’s more, the GPU achieves this acceleration while being more power- and cost-efficient than a CPU.

Your CPU, or central processing unit, does the basic things of your computer. Your GPU, or graphics processing unit, does the same things as your CPU but many times faster and can do a lot more of it at once. So if your GPU is being used up heavily, the application your running is pretty insane.

Out of my own curiosity, I made this survey that shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes. It asks about your setup, how often you usually lag and crash, in addition to asking about your GPU. I apologize if the wording is confusing, I tried my best. I'll leave it open for responses until next week (week of July 15), or until I'm happy with the amount of responses I've gotten, and then update this thread with the results.

If you don't know how to open task manager, here's how:
> WINDOWS COMPUTERS: press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC, and it will pop up.
> MAC COMPUTERS: Press COMMAND + SPACE to bring up Spotlight search field, and search for Activity Monitor, then open it. (I don't have a Mac myself, so I'm not sure what this will show you.)

I'm honestly not sure what I hope comes of this information, other than all of us being a little more informed of FH's impact on our computers.

I honestly really love the update! It isn't a lot, but as has already been stated many many times, the fact that we have the source code now is absolutely amazing, and means upcoming updates will have even more awesome features. Adjusting my characters for the new slider was a little bit of a hassle, but I don't mind. There's always going to be people who say "this update ruined fh for me im unstanning >:C" but that's just the nature of the internet.

This has me extremely excited for the future of this game now that it can move forward in a totally different direction than it was before.

This is wildly surreal. I'm so excited to see what else can be done now that we can properly update the game's code! Can't wait to see all the sparkledogs and go blind <3

For the past little while I've been using a pretty basic template that gives the bare bones of my character: name, age, rank/profession, 3 defining personality traits, etc. I'm switching to a blurb and then everything else important in a short list.

I used to love throwing in Latin words and the like, but it got to a point where I didn't even really know what they meant, so I stopped.

I try to avoid looking at my old posts. I was an edgy and annoying little kid. Every now and then I look at my old dA and read through the screenshot collages I used to make... and then I die on the inside because I was 11-12 and shouldn't have been doing what I was doing.

Presets & Markings / oil slick preset
« on: July 07, 2019, 10:19:36 pm »
I really went wild on this one. The coding is really messy, but it gets the job done and it looks cool, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

YOU WANT SOME ACTION SHOTS?

I've only got those two. Sorry to dissapoint.

I've already uploaded her to the preset sync, but in case you don't have it, here's a download.

Features:
Oil slick effect with env_map spherical
Glowing eyes
Colored outline
Everything is on a different layer. Everything

A little background on how I did it. I actually wanted the outline part to have that "oil slick" effect, but couldn't figure it out, so instead I did it with the preset itself. Took some trial and error (using images of actual oil slicks as the env_map spherical overlay, using a gradient, what opacity to put it at, etc) but I got it where I liked it. Then I slapped some markings and a texture on top. At that point i had 3 passes, and then the outline made 4. When i say that code's messy, it's messy.

As always, if you'd like to see the code I used, shoot me a pm and i'll happily send it to you!

This is absolutely amazing! I especially love the folded ears. I look forward to seeing your replacements for the canine model!
