Other Mods/Creations / Localization for FeralHeart
« on: November 04, 2018, 11:00:51 pm »
Hello, everyone! Let's get started, shall we?

Due to general thoughts that have been popping up over time regarding game translation and localization,
I started working on a project that'd support the including of players from many different cultures and backgrounds.
I wanted to ensure a truly authentic experience for our players - regardless of their nationality.

What's more, game translation and localization also opens doors to advertise FeralHeart worldwide!

Available game translations:

Once downloaded, extract the archive and place all the files you receive into your main FeralHeart folder, replacing if asked.
Please note that it's not technically possible to translate the whole game without access to its source code.

A big thank you to those who helped translate the game!

I'm looking for players who speak fluently one of the following languages to help me translate the game:
- German
- Czech

The game isn't translated in these languages at the moment. If you're interested in helping, please send me a message!

If you have any questions, you may feel free to ask them here in this thread!

My nickname is Insoholic, or Inso, and I've been part of the FeralHeart community since around May 2014.
I used to go by different names back in the day but I've always been known as either
Moontwist or Deucaliorn.

|| Biography: Under the fly-dance and the thumbthick twilight...
|| Characters: Varhmiel, the Moonlit Sailor || Merthur, the Firefly Prince

Please feel free to ask me any questions and I'll do my best to respond!

Forum Suggestions & Ideas / "Most Favorite Character" Contest
« on: July 17, 2018, 10:11:49 pm »
How many of you think it would be a good idea if the "Favorite Character Contest" did make a comeback?

I'm aware that most of the the Staff team is busy with their own projects and that contests and events do take quite a bit of time, work, effort and planning to organize. But I think this contest would put a little spotlight on some of the community's most favorited characters, and bring out some of the most fascinating stories kept behind them. It would encourage players to bond with their characters more, perhaps? Anyway, I think that the Staff team are on the right path with introducing new contests.

Favorite Character Contest

Members of the community are able to vote forward participants for their creativity on
coming up with an imaginative and compelling character. It would be fairly similar to
how the "Member of the Season" voting is done but with some requirements.

  • Rules
    - Only one submission per user.
    - You may only submit your work.
    - All entries must be in on the day of the deadline.
    - All entries must be posted on the Submissions thread/Characters board/etc.
    - ...

You must provide your character's name, gender, age, species, appearance, personality, background, and other general information (nicknames, likes, dislikes).
  • Guidelines
    - All species are accepted. Or maybe only canines and felines?
    - As for the appearance part, you should provide a brief description of your character and a screenshot of them in the game only wearing the default markings with no downloaded/custom markings and items. Maybe?
    - As for the personality part, you should list their talents, strengths and weaknesses, moral beliefs, likes and dislikes, and any other personal information you have considered. You want your reader to leave with an impression of who your character is as a person, not just what they look like.
    - As for the background part, you must provide a history or background created for your character.
  • Judged On
    - Creativity [How unique/creative your character is]
    - Usage [How well you take advantage of your character making skills]
    - Layout [How you represent your character in the topic and interpret it into a canine/feline body]?
    - Overview [The overall character biography]
    - ...
  • Voting Process
The Staff team will take all the entries and put them into a poll that the community votes for. The last stage is the "Winners," in which the Staff team reviews the highest voted members and compiles that into the Winners thread.

Please let me know your thoughts and comments on this!

Miscellaneous Tutorials / Chat Guide
« on: September 18, 2017, 11:21:52 pm »

The chat box is the primary form of text-based communications in FeralHeart. It is usually initiated by pressing Enter.

  • Chat Box Toggle
When you click this button, it will toggle your chat box on and off.

You can also toggle your chat box on and off by pressing the "C" key on your keyboard.

  • Chat Types
There are different chat types in the game and you can change from one to another by clicking on the oval button above the chat box.

You can also hide chat types by clicking on the little arrow beside the chat box.

- Local: Anything you type into the chat box will be seen by anyone who is close enough to see your name tag.

- General: Anything you type into the chat box would be seen by anyone in the map. General chat allowed people to reach over 300 people at once, but it was removed back in 2013. You can read more information about the general chat and why it has been brought down here. If you type something in the General, it will be redirected to Local. General chat still works normally for roleplays and such in private maps.

- Group: The group chat is a special chat where any messages sent in it go to all members of the group. Any messages sent in the group chat will appear as green text in the normal chat window for all members of the group, but no one outside of the group; this is like a special whisper to the whole group. Only group members can see this chat, regardless of their character location. It also shows when someone in your group comes online or goes offline.

- Party: Party is a function used in Feral-Heart, that can allow a large or small number of people to talk together like they would in local. Except, the text imput into a Party message is retained only to the Party itself, and cannot be seen by anyone who isn't invited to it.

- Whisper: This function allows you to send a message to another player privately.

- Modspeak/Godspeak: The red text is an in-game command for mods. They might use their red mod text to warn other users about their behaviour. If a mod uses the red text, their identity will be hidden and it will only work for the map they use it in.

- Action/Movie: Whenever someone arrives in the map/leaves the map/disconnects/loses connection, you will get a notification in the chat window. The Movie Maker is a system in-game that allows players to post short videos and send them to the rest of the people in your current map. Published movies will be posted in the chat and if you want to watch a movie clip, you will have to click on the chat notification.

  • Chat Settings
You can set your own preferences inside the options menu inside the game. Under the "Interface" tab you'll find these settings:

Chat Font Size:
This one explains itself, it changes the font of the chat.

Arrival Chat Name Type:
From here you can choose if you want to see only the character name, the user name or both, when someone arrives in a map. You can also turn off this setting by choosing "Don't Show".

Local Chat Name Type:
From here you can choose if you want to see only the character name, the user name or both, when someone sends a message in the Local Chat.

General Chat Name Type:
From here you can choose if you want to see only the character name, the user name or both, when someone sends a message in the General Chat.

Caret Offset:
This allows you to change the caret position and offset from text field.

Note: You can also change the length and width of your chat window by pulling it vertically or horizontally.

  • Chat Troubleshooting

1) My chat box is transparent.
- Change your rendering subsystem.

2) I can't watch movie clips.
- This happens when you change the horizontal width of the chat box. To fix the problem, simply restart your game and login back.

Additions to the forum

Add a contact form

The contact form could be an alternative to officially reach the Staff/Admins of FeralHeart. Perhaps moderators will not read or deal with contact forms, and only admins will.
It would be required to type in your Username, Email address and a Subject of the form. Players could use it if they have a suggestion or if they want to say what would they like to be changed on FeralHeart. It's just that not everyones uses the forum to share their suggestions with the community and some people may not/don't know how to contact a Staff member about private matters. The contact form could be even used for appealing bans and just feedback.

A mod to @mention members

I know that this has been brought up before but I've found a mod that I think it's compatible with our current version of the forum, because it has manual instructions on how to install it.

Quote from:
Allows members to tag others via @<username>, shows up under Profile and members can set to be notified via e-mail. Adds a new permission enabling membergroups to be granted permission to mention others. Supports active suggestions while mentioning in posts as well as quick reply.
