Hang on, I thought you said......
Have you ever joined a group, saying multiple things about themselves, to find that it was wrong, like a 'literate' group roleplaying illiterately?
I once joined a pride of lions, who had said they were realistic, and literate. Their group bio had said they were a calm, peaceful pride, and in the leaders bio, it had said that he would try to avoid fights at all costs, only resorting to attacking in extreme moments.
So I had made a lioness, who was quiet and slightly shy, to fit in with the prides background. She didn't like fighting and could be slightly over emotional when yelled at.
So after a while of advertising, the king took us to a secluded area of the map. He said that we could start roleplaying, and he started it off. This is what he posted:
-sits down and looks to kamar- So, how r u?
Hang on? Thought you said you were literate?
But I let it go, as I really didn't mind too much about the literacy, though it can bug me.
Me and 3 or 4 other lions and lionesses were literate, as said in the group description, and we roleplayed quiet well together.
After a while of roleplaying, two rogues came and sat down near us, clearly roleplaying with each other, and weren't bothering the pride. Suddenly the king jumped up and yelled: U 2, GET OUTA HERE! -roars-
Hang on......thought you avoided fighting?
The two rogues decided to rp with us since the king had already started it, and they refused. So the pride then came up and started roaring aswel!
Wait a second! Thought you were clam and peaceful?!
Me and 2 or 3 other lions and lionesses sat to the side, embarrassed. The two rogues were plainly noticeable as literate rpers, so to be bombarded by lots of illiteracy and violence, well, I felt very sorry for them. I even whispered to one: Are you ok about this? So sorry about the pride o-o
So me and the few others were sitting to the side, chatting about how this rp wasn't as it had promised, when I caught this post out of the roar of insults: -Leaps forward and snaps neck, killing- HA!
Wait what? Realistic? I thought you were realistic? I real lion can't do that.....
That's when I had had enough, and the few who were sitting next to me had agreed, that we should leave. So we left and went to rp realisticly, literally, and calmly.....
So, have you ever experienced anything like that?
I find it very rude and insulting, personally, to say your group is something that it isn't.....How would you feel joining a 'wolf pack' and found out it was a lion pride?
So put up your opinions on this.......
-
I joined a wolf RP once. They said they were literate and realistic. They certainly were very literate, a little too much for my liking, but they weren't as realistic and I had hoped. I'd have called the RP semi-realistic. Some of the characters were okay, but I saw some people with unrealistic markings and colours. No they weren't bright or neon, but they were still unnatural colours. What wolf has red stripes?
Maybe I was just being pedantic, but I really didn't think that they would call their RP realistic when they had unrealistic/semi-realistic characters running around.
People probably lie about their groups to try and get people to join them, since the majority of roleplayers like literacy, and they think if they call their group literate they'll get more members. And they probably will, but those members will soon leave when they've realized that the group lies.
-
On my Border collie wolfdog character, I once decided to roleplay with a husky pack at the South Pole. They also claimed to be peaceful and literate, but the Alpha Male turned to the Beta and said, "Leeve my mate alone or I will kill u where u stand" or something along the lines of that. He then attacked the beta and started a large fight with all the males eventually joining in. And yes, I did leave, along with two others who'd decided to roleplay but did not get what they bargained for.
-
@DoctorFlob Yeah, that could be the reason why. But it is really quiet silly, as the ones who joined for a literate rp are going to be very disappointed, an not trust you with any other rp.
@JGree This is exactly what I mean, they go against what they have already told you about the rp, making it unfair for those who joined, being promised something they didn't get.
-
Yeah, i joined a RP that was lieng all about it.
Like one time i joined a clan, it said it was Realistic, Active and Literate. I thought, i was bored and all, so i joined. After we left to the camp, and began Rpin', the leader was like this: -She jumped on the rock and roared a meeting- (But cat's don't roar, they meow) so i was like in my mind: /"Okay...Weirdose."\ It was abit harsh, i RolePlayied realisticly, so then another person Started RP, he started out as an apprentice,. and was like: -sleeps- (Not like this: He felt abit tired, as he gave a small yawn, and stood up, stretching, as he turned around, and began pading to the apprentice den. He padded true the small mosse on the den's entrance, as he padded to his spot and layied down giving a small yawn, as he cruled up into a small ball, and slowly closed his eyes, still hearing the birds cheerp outside, as he began to give small purrs while sleeping. ) Well, atleast i'm literate, not like my clan. And then eventualy i left the clan, joining another awsome clan, that Rp's berrar, then the one i joined. -.-

I get this almost whenever I join a group. :/ It's why I really don't anymore. They say they are literate and then talk like this... "sits and watches (insert name here)- hi (insert name here) omg did you hear about r leader?" I've gotten that before. :I I also hate then they say they are active and then never come on. It really makes me insane. I'm on daily, it's not like I'm missing them... I've recently joined a group that said "Oh, we are active literate and mapped!" Well guess what. They weren't. :D
It's really not fair when you lie to people saying these things, and they you just talk as if you were texting or something. Rarely do I find role plays that tell the truth about their pack/clan/pride.
-
I have found many a nice pride or pack, most are literate, and semi-real. I rarely find realistic ones, because, well, it's sorta hard to have a fully realistic rp, especially if your going to show emotions and speech......But I have had a few that lie to me like this.
So now I just stick with the rp's I know are active, literate, and fun!
-
I can understand your frustration here, because it's happened to me too. It's hard for me to find a pack/pride/clan that sticks to what they advertised. I think Doctor Flob has a good point when she says that they are probably lieing about their RP standards just to get more members. If I ever join in an RP that didn't stick to what they advertised, I just get up and leave. It's not the illiteracy that gets me, but more like the unrealistic characteristics they all do. Like cats roaring, or a single wolf taking down an elk by himself and bringing it back to the pack.
-
This has never happened to me but it really makes me mad. I never lie in my RP advertisements but now I know that people might think I am and ignore my advertisements. It is like the boy who cried wolf. I think this is quite unfair.
-
I whole heartedly agree with Silvertide.
I have made and joined groups that lie.
"Make them? -Gasp- You're one of those lying people, Ocean!"
Erm, no.
I mean the people that join the RP.
You might of noticed, a bit back,I had a dragon RP in my siggy.
Well, it lasted for about half a month, and was really fun.
The RP started to crumble when these two jerks joined the RP.
They passed the RP sample, very well.
Then it turned out they were lying and were extremely illiterate.
I lost a lot of members that day because they thought they were my friends and that's why I let them in.
Not. True.
For the groups that lie...
Been in one.
A... 'Realistic wolf/dog pack! Unmapped, Literate, Active, and with 40+ Members!"
What did they lie about?
They were semi-lit at best, the next day NO ONE was on, and only had two other members, excluding me and the alpha.
Just... GRR.

That's another thing: activity. Nearly all the groups or RPs I've been in said they're active. That wass either a complete lie or they started out active and it just went downhill from there.

I don't like using the words "literate" and "illiterate", I wouldn't know how someone with a learning difficulty would get on if they didn't want to join a group were they used text chat. I have trouble writing long posts and some groups demand paragraphs as a minimum. I tend to stay away from some groups because they ask too much when all I want to do is kick back, relax and role play. One group gave me a raging head ache with the posts.
I can see pride making people claim to be "literate" when they clearly aren't, it's what's popular and what gets noticed. No group that "typs lik dis" is going to get as many members as a committed long term group. I role play with less experienced players a lot and you just have to bare with them, once they get used to proper posts they do start to use correct grammar.
-
You realize most groups are like that right? Nothing to do with their bio at all...and their RP is totally irrelivent to whatever they say they are like! Example: They say they are realistic, then their king is a purple lion? I've seen that. I don't think they understand the meaning of realistic and literate.
-
Well, I once joined a group and read their bio. I saw one part saying "We kill anything in our path." yet they were really nice to everything. They would make posts like: "-Helps get up- I'm sorry I attacked you."
I was like "Wtc?"
--
Something I did likethat: I once made a wolf character and I made her like the killer type and I wrote in her bio "We show no mercy, you see me and you better run." but I was really nice cause I didn't want people to take it as if I was going to kill them OUTSIDE roleplay.
-
This had happened to me before, and it is indeed a but on the annoying side. Countless groups I have interest in have either lied about their standards or literally pushed it too far in the process of gaining members. A bit of desperation I can tell, perhaps. Not only do certain or particular groups lie, but I've had members who "fake" their roleplay sample in an attempt to get in... and join in on a pack / pride roleplay session with many grammatical errors... Thought ye' were advanced...?
My friend and I have made our lit'le group.. and upon advertising, we have gained many members who were superior and exemplary in their samples. We bring them to an area of the Plains that served as a temporary territory, and settled down to roleplay.
Next thing I know, I see posts from those supposedly advanced members looking like this, "-lays down on the green grass and yawns- Hmm... -stands up and walks towards a member- Hi, what is your name?" Alright... No typos clearly, but you had a... more different roleplay style did you not?
After a while, they were the ones to accuse us if being "illiterate"... and the group just crumbled after that... Now, I don't understand why people would do this, but hopefully they come to their senses soon...

And that is called 'Lying'
I did that, forever and a day ago, to get into a WC RP I heard great things about.
But after a few minutes in, and they saw my illiterate posts, they started OOC frowning at me, and one taught me to be literate.
Now, I never did that again. XD
But, a lot of people to it because, incase you can't tell, a lot of RP's need a RP sample, so obviously, to get into an RP you need to be literate.
So...
You gotta lie to get into an RP. :/
I now frown upon what I did, but that last part also happened TO me.
Again, in my old dragon RP, I had to RP sample IG, but anyways.
They said they were literate, so I accepted them.
When we went to the map to RP, they posted things like -Flies to cave and sleeps- or -Yawns and wakes up-
I ended up having to kick them, because a lot of people were leaving because of the illiterate person.
-
Yeah, those sort of people are really annoying, when they just want to join a cool group, so they make a good post to get in, but then they can't do it well for the rest of the rp....any way, getting a bit off topic aren't we? xD
You realize most groups are like that right? Nothing to do with their bio at all...
Note at all! Not most, I have seen many trusted rp's true to their word, I only rarely find groups like these, though I have experienced them, as shown.
I'd say its 1/10 that lie, the majority of the time, you have good, honest, groups, with lot's o' loffly floofs :3.
-
I have the perfect example, happened to me yesterday.
I joined a lion group on my first Lioness, hoping it was realistic, since I wanted to put my research to use.
They added fine, the people were all nice.
Some idiot was RPing in OOC, and not very literately, anyways.
We fled to the temporary map to RP.
We didn't even post before the leader started blabbering about a TLK RP, since there was a Pride Rock.
Then they made a TLK group, and I never got to RP with them on my lioness.
I just deleted the character out of annoyance that they had lied about what they were RPing.
:/ People can be so annoying.
If you want members, don't lie or the ones you get will leave.
-
Yes, it's not very nice, joining a group being promised a good rp, when you go to rp, you get through 1-2 lines and then it ends? What?
It's not very nice...Especialy if they have said they are active .-.
-
Yup, same thing happened to me! But, it was a group that copied our pack name, they said they were literate. I saw them Role-play, it was bad. Things like: the alpha walked over to the wolfs 'hi' he spoke.
I was like..okay...very literate.

OK, even in my illiterate days, that group bugs me.
First off...
'the alpha walked over to the wolfs 'hi he spoke.'
No capitals, no punctuation. Wolfs? Really?

Yes, apparently that 6 person pride was very active, until they all decided to pounce off to make Simba and Kiara.
:/
I'm posting too much. XD[/color]

In my opinion, I don't see why people have to lie or pretend to either get in a group or get members into their group. I mean, if you're not that active, just say so. If your role-playing style is not as good as the people in the group would like, just find another group that does. If I'm going to be inactive, I'll say so, at least, simply because I must live in the Real World too and handle my own business. That way, I can have all the free-time I want to play. If you are as active as you say you are, then, no worries, just do your thing and play with your group.
Now, with having to lie about your literacy is baffling to me, really. If you wouldn't go around claiming to know Russian and speak the language backwards, then the same can be said here. Do not make humiliate yourself and the group by not going by the standards they want. It can be from being a blue lion in a realistic group or making one-liners in a paragraph oriented group. Also, it's a matter of respecting the group as well, not just lying in general. If you are not going to at least respect what the group wants, then find another. Or in the other instance, if you are not going to present the group as being peaceful, evil, realistic, and etc, then just create a group YOU would like. Do not go by what is popular and what you think will get people to be interested, simply make the kind of group you would join, work at it, and people will come that way.
