So, what I want to know, players of Feral Heart, is what the worst groups you've ever joined are. What made it the worst in your opinion? Were the high ranks abrasive, and rude? Did they use said rank in arguments, saying that your opinion was invalid because you were a lower rank? Or perhaps you joined, but no one came online after the first day? Did the group consist of ooc chatter, even when it said it was a roleplaying group? Were you left out of the roleplay? So, feel free to have at it!
(You can be as biased as you want, I don't care.)
-
Hmmm...hard to say really..
I must admit I dislike groups with high rankings that are overly powered or rude to their members.
-
I won't mention any specific groups as it wouldn't be fair on their half. Though in general, I've joined groups which have been overly organized. Organized to an extent where people or members of that group had to take turns to post their role-play, no one had the freedom to type whenever they wished. Many groups only allow a minimum of one Paragraph. Some role-plays and groups I have joined had ranks were a person or members felt cornered or downgraded.
However, I can't disagree when people have their different interest in groups and role-plays, how they work and run etc.. Most people join to get into a good role-play and some only join groups to allow themselves to have fun, hang out with friends or role-play as they go along.
Overall, I've encountered a few unpleasant role-plays, harsh and lazy ones too which decide to end after a very short period of time. But everyone has their own taste, whether it's a quiet and free role-play or a big controlled one.
Very good topic you have produced here, Emry.

Vespian's just gonna add onto this and say this once.
Keep any group names out of mention. We do not want everyone downright callin' an organization out. It'll only lead to disaster and serious drama thus I will be quick to lock this thread if I see anyone doin' this.
Now onto the topic at hand.. Vespian's been in a lot of role-plays. Countless, actually. While I cannot pinpoint this response to just one or two groups, this does point elbows to the establishments that befall under this opinion. Which are, again, countless. Mind ye', Vespian's lenient with most things too so gettin' I to gnarr like this takes a lot.
Surprisingly, Vespian doesn't quite mind the groups who claim themselves to be active then "disappear" a day or two later. Even deactivate sometimes. I was interested, I've given 'em a chance to enthrall me with a little story tellin', and it just simply did not work out. After a few days (3-5 at most) and they're still inactive on my end, I simply leave. A majority of the time, groups have a reason for goin' inactive and the reason can very much vary. Irritatin' it can be from time to time, especially if it happens repetitively over and over within a short time span but since I nowadays scarcely join role-plays, it doesn't phase me too much.
However, it's the successful groups who also hone serious heart-attack drama that get under my skin. Groups like these often have the mindset of:
- We have so 'n so+ members! We're so popular, we might as well own this entire map and all of its inhabitants!
- Whatever ye' do IC-wise counts as OOC too, so harm my character (or pack/pride/clan/etc) in any way and I shall hate ye' for life.
- This game is just a stage and everyone who comes in contact with me is my little puppet to control.
- I'm a part of so 'n so and/or an important member of this group. Ye're all inferior to I now. I have the almighty power.
- Oh, a new user. They're nobody right now. Just gonna completely ignore them till they gain a high(er) rank (sometimes said user will be ignored OOC-wise too).
etc.
Not meanin' to sound rude but I've noticed the larger the group, the more confident they become. The more confident they become, the more childish they become. This doesn't apply to all as again, this response only points elbows to the organizations that Vespian has been in which has well fallen underneath this opinionated statement. I say this because normally drama is sparked over the most tedious of things. Things that can be so easily solved yet each party decides to keep their pride firm and thus drag what was once a petty quarrel into an all out war. Vespian just doesn't have the tolerance for that. Power and a popular reputation can do bad things to one's head. Horrible things that can change a sweet little user into a complete butthole. Then new colors arise (or true colors). In comparison, I'd rather join a small inactive group than one who has hundreds of users and has been active for a year or longer only to be festered with hatred for its own members or other members of FeralHeart. That's just not a role-play to Vespian.
'Course, there's more but this is the top that teeters me off of my toadstool.

But yes in all my days of roleplaying the worst groups are usually the ones who have these traits:
-Over authoritative leaders that let their position get to their head. They will not be open to any kind of suggestions and will frown upon you if you even dare try anything they didn't say. It really kills the open freedom of roleplay.
- Over "literate" folks. These are the people that need to write a whole darn paragraph just to say their character fell asleep. It's extremely annoying to roleplay in groups like these because it not only slows down the dynamic of the roleplay but it's also really boring to read. We're rping in real time people, not writing a book.
- Those over "literate" groups who complain about the slightest misspells
- Groups who don't exactly roleplay but recruit and then chatter about random stuff. Like I joined to roleplay not chat.
- Groups who have an exciting rp advertisement and then when you join everyone just RPs the same things like hunting, mating, sleeping, and dying. Or they just go straight to sleep when the rp begins. Sooooo exciting!
- Overly ridiculous power rps. Here is the roleplay where people just can not accept their character getting injured or dying... They always resurrect or heal completely. Or worse they have so many powers that they're invincible and you just can't do anything.
- Those rps where everyone is a drama queen and starts arguing over silly stuff and pretty much kills the fun.
- The rps where there is too much chaos going on at once and the plot starts to get broken and confusing because every derp wants to do their own thing.
- Those rps that don't allow for proper character development... You know you start as a pup let's say and then everyone else forces you to grow up within minute of starting the rp.
- Those rps where people can not seem to distinguish out of character and in character... They get a little too into it.
- The rps that spend more time recruiting and little to no time actually rping... Like what are we trying to do? Recruit an army?
- The rps that are so awesome and only last one day.... -sad face-
-
I have joined multiple rude, and overly self oriented groups in the past, hence I tend not to rp with just anyone anymore. I will list below:
- Self Centered groups, thinking their over the top and so amazing.
- Power hungry groups.
- Groups that spend little to no time rping and more time chatting or recruiting as Lord had mentioned.
- Drama llamas that have to pick at every tiny mistake you make, even if it wasn't meaningful.
These kinds of groups annoy me beyond belief and are some of the worst groups I have joined before. And then there are the groups that harass members to get on their group character only to sit around. Like this is what made me leave a group once before. Plus, there is always that group that will complain about everything. "Can we leave yet?", "WE HAVE BEEN HERE FOREVER, CAN WE LEAVE????", "Oh my gosh, that group has such a low view on you.". Drama llamas point blank. Patience people, please.

All of you have made very good points to why I disliked certain groups in the past. However, I can remember one specific group I joined where none of the players were close. No one was encouraged to socialize outside of the roleplay, or even get a feel for one another's roleplay chemistry. No discussion of plots, rules, or character development was spoken of.
It doesn't sound like much, but here's a list of what spawned from the above points:
- All character relationships were taken seriously. In the roleplay, my character was instantly hated by another character because she, quoting him, "had a weak build". So, anytime I came online, that guy was stuck in character and would continue to hate me for one silly reason.
- There was no "welcome online", "welcome back", or "goodbye/goodnight" to be mentioned. This might not bother many, but it bothers me.
- New members were often scared away after joining, because the member's happy aura would turn into one that was insensitive and hurried.
- The roleplay was fast paced and if one went offline for more than half an hour, something major would have happened.
The leader of the pack was very ignorant to what was going on, since they too were stuck in character. I stayed for two days, because I had met a nice player who was very good at roleplaying. They were actually the reason I left, and their short-term group was a very nice change of environment!
-
Oh where to start, where to start....
I'll just go over the things that I've despised about the various 'bad' groups I've been in, not calling out any names.
- IC Drama turning into OOC drama and vice versa
Basically meaning when an IC conflict becomes OOC conflict, or in one incident, an OOC conflict involving myself led to the hatred of my character, and defacing of my character.
- Poor leadership/group management
This one peeves me greatly
It's when the leader/higher-up of a group tries managing the group in a certain way, either being a control freak or being a total pain and not doing anything to lead the group.
- Giving high titles to undeserving people
Now, by that, I mean: Person A gives a high rank to friend B because they're a friend, and then when B makes member C upset, B gets away with it because they're friends with A.
- Activity
'We're active!' -The next day-
No one
Is
Online.
- 'Popularity'
Now, I don't mean popular groups like the TEC and TDC, I'm meaning, like Vespian said, the 'We have 250+ members and we're strong and powerful' And yeah yeah yeah. Kinda self explanatory.
That's all I can think of right now, but it covers most of what I wanted to say.
-
Yeah, guys, don't mention don't mention the actual name of the group. Now, I haven't really run into a bad group yet, but I'm sure I will. Whether it be a pack of some sort rejecting me because my character isn't 'OMG REALISTIC!1!!!', or a group run by stuck up, self proclaimed, 'literates', it's bound to happen.
-
Oh, yes yes.
The Warrior cat clans that are said to be realistic but wolfspeak and use ancient medieval
first names and irrelevant last names as well as having a totally unrealistic coat pattern and
colors.
Don't sugarcoat your RPs with wolfspeak and fancy words, you're not superior to all of us.
I honestly love the ment-to-be unrealistic RPs that are here for a day and go away the next. These
tend to be filled with scripting RP, neons, and power-playing. I find those fun.
It's amusing to see groups recruit 24/7 and gain like 400 players only to delete the RP in the next wekk.
-
There are a lot of things I don't like in groups, which is why I don't join them unless they're run by someone I can trust.
But some things that really tick me off in groups:
-Only high ranks actually roleplay together, with everyone else just talking to themselves in a corner
-Spends all their time recruiting, and no one wants to actually rp until everyone is offline.
-The people who say they have <insert some huge number here>+ members, but really only have a few.
-When people contradict you and tell you that you're doing something wrong in the middle of a rp. Like yelling "Our pack can't eat rabbits. We can only eat deer you idiot."
-Those who think they're superior because they are extremely literate.
-When people tell you to change your name and or appearance in order to join.
-Drama. Just so much drama. IC and OOC are the same thing to them, and if you attack their character, they're your enemy for life.
-Attention seekers. Why do the pups/kits/cubs always feel the need to die some slow terrible death within 3 minutes of being born?
-When one person decides everything that happens. They say when it's day or night, they can make the camp flood, they can "summon" some random dragon to run in and kill everyone, they drive the entire plot into madness.
This list can go on forever really. These are just the big things. (Even if most of them have already been said.)
-
I'm obviously not going to point out the group, (not that I can even remember the name of it or the name of the members), but I was so excited! I'd seen these guys roleplaying before and it looked like a very friendly, fun loving environment. So I took my chances and asked if I could join. They told me that there was an initiation so in my head I was like, "Okay..so probably some kind of roleplay sample," but noooo. They wanted me to roleplay fight their alpha.
At this point I was a bit nervous because different groups have different out-takes on how fighting is "supposed" to be roleplayed. But I went ahead and tried it, but no sooner had I finished my first post they told me I wasn't accepted. Now, of course I argued in asking why, and they told me it was because:
1. I wasn't violent enough
2. I power-hit (Now, I know what godmodding and power-hitting is, and I can assure, I'd done no such thing)
3. "How dare I attack their alpha
So I responded with a snark comment about how they shouldn't have asked me to rp fight with their alpha if that wasn't the right thing to do.
Needless to say, I got out of there ASAP, because I just could not handle their way of thinking xP But aside from my sad story, I've got to agree with everyone else's generic "Do's and Don'ts" when it comes to what makes a 'bad' roleplay.
-
I'm not gonna mention any group specifically but--
Man, I've in some bad groups.
- Where the leaders can't control their members. I know this might seem a little harsh-- but if your gonna create a group, and you can't control your members. It's pretty embarrasing for yourself.
- Where the group demands you have a specific look.
- Those who think they're superior because they can type a few words with 'tassle' and 'auds' in it.
- When people don't say 'welcome' or 'welcome back.' It makes your group look unfriendly or uncaring for their members.
- When people spend more time recruiting than rping.
- Where the members will make certain uncomfortable jokes and the leader doesn't do anything about it.
yeah :>
-
hard choice cuz i have been in many groups sadly most of them have been rude or haven't even cared about another peoples of the group so rude or only just have been un active what hardens the "team work" of the group.

so true sadly so true...

The only groups I can think of are the very inactive and illiterate groups I joined back when I use to role play 24/7.
The sad thing is, that they said that they were literate yet, I saw much lack of grammar and punctuation.
Inactivity created a boring and less enjoyable group, if you ask me.
And then there were the groups that had the "realistic-semi realistic" characters which weren't as realistic as you hoped them to be.
But that's just my opinion on what makes a boring and rather disappointing group.
I'd rather not call a group 'bad', because these floofs obviously take time in recruiting and gathering members to have a good time in role playing with, but there are quite disappointing ones.
-
I told this story about a hundred times, but it was a pretty bad experience for me.
A couple of years ago (i think 2013) I saw an advertisement for a free-roam roleplay. You could be any animal you can imagine and there was a big map to come with it. I thought it was pretty darn cool at first. I contacted the advertiser and they invited me to a party chat with several other people. They told me to create a roleplay example with 5 posts. I was puzzled, I thought it was weird. That's a bit too much for roleplaying. Otherwise, I did it, and I did the best I can. After like 5 minutes of posting an unnecessary lengthy roleplay post, they told me I wasn't accepted because I made "a lot of" spelling, grammar, and punctuation mistakes. They also told me to go back to Bonfire where I belong and roleplay there because I was "illiterate". I told them that I have a laggy computer (the computer I was using was really trashy and did not run feralheart that good) so that's why i may have made spelling and punctuation mistakes, but they called me a liar and told me that I was just an illiterate noob. Torn and angry, I insulted them back and left the party. They kinda lowered my self-esteem, and it's mostly the fact that I don't really go on the game anymore.
I also hate groups with "baseball strikes". I once was in a warrior cat roleplay as a kit, and I was really bored and barely anyone was on, so I ventured out of the queen's den and out in the open to get a drink of water. When I came back to the campsite, a leader from another clan gave me two strikes for venturing out of the campsite, and I forgot the other reason. In baseball you have three strikes before you are out of the game, so if I made one more offense (most likely on accident or for petty things) they would kick me out of the roleplay. I find that absurd that a leader from another clan gave me two.
This was mentioned before, but there are roleplays that become inactive the second day, even if they said they are active. It's hilarious tbh.
-
Ah, everyone here has posted good examples! :D Here is my tale of woe:
A few months back, I was on a Warrior Cat character. Since I was bored, I decided to find a Clan. I finally found one
(I won't name any names) that looked nice. We sat at the SB for a bit, and then went to the camp. Us members were
shown around by the leader, and, since it was night, I decided to post my cat starting to fall asleep.
Silence.
Nobody except me was posting. At first, I thought, "Maybe they're just typing a long post?"
Continued silence.
I was starting to get sick of waiting, so I just decided to leave the Clan. I know, posting about your cat sucking
on its paw while sleeping might get boring, but I expected just ONE other person to speak! ::)
-
I joined one group with my wolf Crow, they were downright rude just because they were higher ranking, so when one of the older members killed off his character. They asked what we thought of him, I told him I did not like him he said very rude things to my cousin and they called me, "disrespectful little crow." Or said "Shut up stupid you don't know that." When I point out she sent me pictures, they kicked me out even thought they ASKED what WE thought of him. I told him what they did was wrong, they tried to say they were better then me. I told them, "If anybody is better then anybody, I'm better then ALL of you because I didn't ask the whole group a question then get mad when I got an answer I did not like." Then walked off
-
I once joined a WARRIORS RP group. The leader, oh my goodness.
This leader was.. Wow..
She literally took one of the names from the original book series and used it saying she came up with it herself. She appointed her best friend the deputy, and the deputy didn't even read or know what WARRIORS was, so I was like "Are you series? *-*"
Then the members, they hardly even did any roleplay and instead fooled around.
They were even breaking some of the rules, so I left.
I didn't want to seem mean, so I didn't report them (even though I should have. >:C)
When I made a video for them and posted it on Youtube, they started acting a bit more different. Too late I deleted the video. >:P
-
I've encountered many "bad groups" to put it bluntly. These are some reasons as to why i did not stay in a group for very long or what makes a group less enjoyable.
Most of the people in the group were so caught up with trying to get a mate with someone that they did not roleplay with anyone else in the group. With me being a pup/kit at the time caused me to roleplay by myself after countless attempts to roleplay with them. Understandable when some people are in the middle of an "intense" roleplay but when everyone's doing it - it just makes it less enjoyable.
When some "rogue/stray" who isn't included in the group makes the roleplay more interesting yet is later frowned upon by the leader/others from the group. Meaning i'm not allowed to roleplay with non-group members, even if no one else is online
or willing to rp with me.
When you have to have a super specific roleplaying "style" to join certain groups.
Wolfspeakers that believe you are completely illiterate if you do not use some scientifically wrong, confusing language of
their own.
When you have a debate IC yet everyone else takes it as an OOC argument.
Going through the trouble of downloading a map/presets when the group is inactive the next day.
Groups that are active simply because of the 100+ members which move locations and don't recognise/roleplay with you.
Many reasons have already been said but these are some groups i would rather avoid.
-
Hmm.. Well, I'm not able to join as many groups as I did back in the day-day (like, 2012), but I think the "bad groups" we see share a lot similar qualities (or lack of quality, perhaps).
People have mentioned being power-hungry or way to complicated with rankings and post order, etc., which drains the fun out of roleplaying. I get that.
But one trait that bothers me in a group is a leader who expects their RP to do everything for them once recruiting is done. For one, a lot of users on this game are certainly younger, and so this issue can be attested to inexperience. So, it's not the worst thing in the world, by any means, but it is one of the biggest killers of RPs.
Roleplays thrive on two things:
1.) Members
2.) Roleplay!
A lot of users are good with #1. They'll sit at Stone Bridge of at Cape Portal for hours, recruiting new members left and right. Which is a good thing! A group isn't a group without members.
However, once recruiting is done, too many leaders have either a.) Spent too long recruiting, so they have to leave, or b.) Don't see RPing immediately, get bored, and leave.
And, in my experience, if the Rp leader isn't there, the group itself may RP briefly, but they'll eventually leave. If they leave, and the group continues this trait, the lack of roleplay will bore the new members, and they will leave. After all, they did come there to roleplay.
That said, I practically swear by this particular form of recruiting, to remedy the situation for leaders who find their members leaving:
First, don't recruit for more than an hour. People have to be patient while you recruit, but if you're sitting there for 2-3 hours recruiting, they're gonna get bored and leave.
Second, once you've recruited, get some roleplay started, with the leader there! Every time you recruit! This gets new members hooked on the storyline, or starts new stories. They actually have a leader there if they need to get more members as people trickle offline, and they feel secure that they have someone there for guidance for stories, etc. The rankings do indeed offer some plot points, as well. Interest is key. Without interest, people will just leave.
Roleplay every time you recruit, and members feel that they didn't wait to be disappointed. Plan your times accordingly, group leaders, this way you're less likely to run out of time, too. Recruit early in the day (4-5pm EST is ideal, for example, during peak hours), and then try to RP for an hour or so afterward. More members stay this way.
But, if a leader and its members leave 20 minutes afer recruiting, then it's likely that more of your members won't come back.
Not many people figure this out, though, and so that's why so many groups simply disappear into oblivion, and become the annoying "Ugh they were gone in a week" type of group.
-
I agree with the previous people, with the fast-quitting groups, powerplayers, wolfspeakers, people with improper grammar, rude people, etc. I don't really have problems with groups because 1. I'm not part of any groups, 2. Roleplaying is very hard and pressuring for me, and 3. I'm a lone wolf. No pun intended.
-
I have joined a lot of groups in my time (Since 2013) and I have come across lots of groups that are:
-Inactive (Never going online
-Long term (Just describing your character going to hunt)
-Too high ranks (That are unfair and curl to all the members even the ones who created the group)
-Wolfspeakers (This is a new one. It just shows how e literate people can be)
-Forum creating for no reason (People create a forum and then abandon it)
Thats all that I have so far. I can't remember the groups that I was in and I will not say the group names because (You know why!)...
-
Aw man. I remember one time I was gonna join a Warriors roleplay and they were so strict like- I mean... I can't remember the rules, but there were well over 25 at least, I can specifically remember how baffled I was when I commented on the hefty amount of rules they had and they insulted me for thinking they had too many rules. This isn't the roleplay but, one roleplay I was in- Novum? Aequalis? Aequalis! They kicked out one guy cause he tried to rape another member's wolf, like umm- creepy person alert much? That was a reeeally long time ago though.
