Abilities
- All Serpent River Wolves have retractable claws. This enables them to hunt and climb more effectively.
- Serpent River Wolves have an increased range of foreleg motion. They are able to rotate their paws 180 degrees, much like a cat. This allows them to climb more effectively, along with grasp prey with their claws easier.
- Both males and females have the ability to mask their scent for short periods of time. They excrete an additional chemical that neutralizes scent. However, this chemical is in limited quantity and takes several days to regenerate after being depleted.
- Serpent River Wolves are able to climb trees. This developed from the need to hide when they were being hunted, and it is a skill that has remained since.

Psychology
Serpent River wolves are secretive and wary of outsiders. Considering their history with outsiders, they have a reason to be. They tend to be calm and rational. Hot-headed and rash adult members are rare, though not unheard of. When dealing with outsiders, females tend to be shy, while the males are often hostile. If an outsider gets too near their den, they are questioned by one posted sentry, while the other goes to inform the Alphas. However, they are not entirely xenophobic. They do deal with outsiders, and occasionally form alliances with other packs. They are simply cautious.
Females are the more rational ones. They tend to be intelligent and far-seeing, often seeming to have almost seer-like knowledge of what will occur as a result of the packs actions. All females help with the raising of the pups. However, not all help with the babysitting. That is left to the assigned baby-sitters, and the omega. Females will often form hunting groups and hunt smaller game like deer. Rabbits or fawns are sometimes brought back alive for the pups to practice their hunting skills on. That doesn't mean they don't hunt larger prey, however. They are perfectly capable of hunting the caribou and bison that roam their territory, and often join in pack hunts.
Males tend to be calmer and more confidant then the females. They are the ones who deal with the situations that involve outsiders. Males assist in raising only their own pups, and if they have pups of their own they tend to be short-tempered around those that are not theirs. There has not been an incident of a male killing a pup, but that does not mean that it could never happen. For that reason males with pups are kept out of the nursery. Once their pups are fully grown, the males mellow out, and are able to assist the babysitters if needed. Males rarely form hunting groups, preferring to hunt on their own if not participating in a pack hunt.

Diet
Serpent River Wolves are carnivorous. They get all the nutrients they need from meat. They will occasionally ingest plants, berries, or grass, but that is for medicinal purposes only. They hunt all prey animals, be it insect, reptile, fish, or mammal. They are not, however, cannibalistic. They will not consume any canine. Felines, however, are occasionally eaten in lean times. Cannibalism is merit for immediate exile or death.

Reproduction
Serpent River Wolves have a wide range of behavior when it comes to breeding. Unlike most Wolf Packs, the Alphas allow breeding outside of themselves. However, all breeding pairs must have permission from the Alphas before having pups. Not having the blessing of the Alphas is cause to terminate the pregnancy. This can be done two ways. The female can willingly take an herb which causes her to miscarry. Or if she refuses, the Alpha female will attack until the pregnancy is forcibly aborted. With the latter, the female is then exiled from the pack territory. The sire of the terminated litter may choose whether or not to go with her.
Most Serpent River Wolves choose a mate that they love and respect. However, some remain single and breed with whomever they choose. When they do find a mate, they breed only with them, unless it is a homosexual pair. Should a male or female be homosexual, they would also willingly breed with the opposite sex for pups to benefit the pack. While homosexuality is uncommon, it is neither ridiculed or frowned upon. Such an attitude is not permitted within the pack.
THERE WILL BE NO SAME SEX COUPLES HAVING PUPS.
They may adopt pups if there are any without parents. But there will be no male-pregnancies. Neither will there be females impregnating other females.
Currently, crossbreeding is not allowed.
Males
Males reach sexual maturity at age two and remain sexually able until they die. Most male breed at least four times in their lifetime, though it is normally closer to six. Males will mate with multiple females if single, but when they find a mate, they remain faithful to them.
Females
Females reach sexual maturity at age three and remain fertile until around the age of fifteen. They have a yearly estrus in the middle of winter, and give birth in early spring. Most females breed at least four times in their lifetime, though it is normally closer to six. Females will choose whether or not to breed when single. They will never be forced to breed.
Pups
Pups are born into litters that range in size from as little as two to as many as six. The average is four, however. Not all pups born survive their first weeks, as the weaker ones usually die by being refused food by their litter-mates. The runt will occasionally survive, however they usually become pupsitters, or if submissive enough, the omega. They are no longer considered pups when they reach the age of one year.

Personality: Caspian is a very kind wolf. He is usually very calm and rational, though can get a bit of a temper when dealing with overly rude or arrogant wolves. He's a great fighter, and can really be very aggressive in a battle situation. He's a large wolf, for his species, and really isn't a very fast runner. Though what he lacks in speed, he makes up for in stamina. Caspian loves pups and would make a good father despite the fact that he can sometimes be a bit too overprotective of those he cares for. Caspian has always preferred the thrill of battle over the quiet patience that hunting requires and it shows when he does hunt.

He can be a bit flirty with females, though he's trying to snap out of it. (Hehe...) Regardless, she still has the species' uneasiness around outsiders, and she tends to be a little sharp and borderline hostile around them.

Personality: Raven is... Despite her looks, she's quite submissive and overly shy. She doesn't enjoy fighting, and these qualities probably SHOULD have made her omega, but she's not. It takes someone with a lot of patience to get her to open up, and she won't do that for many, but once she does she can be a great friend. She's very level-headed, and it's often that her close friends will come to her for advice.
On a physical note- explaining why she isn't omega- her small, very slim build makes it easy for her to catch smaller prey and kill it quickly. Due to vigorous self-training and the urge to make something of herself, she has unusually high stamina. Because of this, she can run at high speeds for quite a while, making it easy for her to run bigger prey down until it's too tired to run from the actual hunting group. Once said 'large prey' becomes tired, she'll back down and let the bigger wolves deliver the final blow. She doesn't enjoy killing, no matter what it is. Even if it's just a pitiful squirrel, she has to constantly remind herself that when hunting it's for the pack, and its death was not wasted. One of her personal rituals is, just before it dies, she gets down to eye-level with her prey and lets it know its death was not in vain. Some think she's a bit whacky because of her self-proclaimed connection with other animals, but it's the fact that she DOES have this connection that keeps her going.

Personality: Intelligent and confidant, Zodiac tends to take on too many tasks for him to handle. A busy-body, he likes to have things to do, rather than just sit about all day. However, he likes spending time with his partner, be it out exploring, or watching the sunrise. Kind and caring, he is a loyal and faithful partner. He is a romantic at heart, and will often compliment his partner. He can spout some pretty cheesy lines at times, but it is all sincere.
Born into the pack, he was always held to high expectations. Being the chosen apprentice of the Alpha only made those expectations grow. It was under that pressure that he developed the over-achiever part of his personality. He left his pack a year ago after deciding he wanted to decide his future, not be groomed for one. He wandered at first, never settling down, until he found what is now his home. Living by himself was fine at first, but lately he has found himself longing for the company of another.

When she does open up to someone though, she can prove herself to be quite odd. Her sense of humor isn't always funny, and she has strange habits (such as refusing to eat something that has been dead for longer than a day). Because she doesn't socialize often, she has a tendency to latch on emotionally to anyone who takes the time to get to know her. It has led to awkward situations.
Fern was raised by a mother who believed females just didn't do certain things, like fight, talk "commonly," or befriend those of a lower rank. Being the Beta's daughter, that made for a very lonely childhood. While her brother was off learning with the Alpha, she was stuck at home, babysitting. On rare occasions she was allowed to hunt, but only small game, as larger prey was "for the males." After her brother left the pack, she decided to follow his example, and left to catch up with him. She never did. That's alright. If you want to join, please submit the form I supplied, and tell me if you are going to be a pack member or a member not in the pack.
Just a bit of information. The pack will not be made for several months. Maybe more. I'm not going to make it until I'm finished with basic training and I'm at my first duty station. Also, if you are not going to be constant and committed, please don't ask to join.
However, you do have permission to have a white pelt. I'm more hesitant about the blindness, because I don't want a lot of blind wolves running around. But very well. She can be blind.

In my role-play sample I'll be role-playing in First Person, if that's okay. I need to get used to writing in First-Person for a potential book that I may start writing once I get used to writing in First Person. I'm alright in Third Person, so I won't bother with that for now, but what I really need to practice is staying in First Person. I tend to drift from First Person to Third Person mid-sentence because that's what I'm so used to writing in Third... I gotta quit that. ;XD

Personality: Raven is... Despite her looks, she's quite submissive and overly shy. She doesn't enjoy fighting, and these qualities probably SHOULD have made her omega, but she's not. It takes someone with a lot of patience to get her to open up, and she won't do that for many, but once she does she can be a great friend. She's very level-headed, and it's often that her close friends will come to her for advice.
On a physical note- explaining why she isn't omega- her small, very slim build makes it easy for her to catch smaller prey and kill it quickly. Due to vigorous self-training and the urge to make something of herself, she has unusually high stamina. Because of this, she can run at high speeds for quite a while, making it easy for her to run bigger prey down until it's too tired to run from the actual hunting group. Once said 'large prey' becomes tired, she'll back down and let the bigger wolves deliver the final blow. She doesn't enjoy killing, no matter what it is. Even if it's just a pitiful squirrel, she has to constantly remind herself that when hunting it's for the pack, and its death was not wasted. One of her personal rituals is, just before it dies, she gets down to eye-level with her prey and lets it know its death was not in vain. Some think she's a bit whacky because of her self-proclaimed connection with other animals, but it's the fact that she DOES have this connection that keeps her going.

Roleplay Sample: I whimpered and hid my face under my mane as I hastily made my way through the clearing. I didn't much enjoy being around... others. I knew them all quite well, but I knew some a bit more than others. It's not that I didn't like them, it's just... Not many of them like me.
I weaved my way through the crowd, ducking and whimpering every time this wolf or that wolf stepped on me or bumped into me. Those were accidents of course, but... Some of the pain I received wasn't an accident...
I had almost made it to my goal, when I felt a sudden surge of pain spiral throughout my body and I felt myself on the ground in an instant.
"Raven, watch where you're going to worthless cur!" Roared a male wolf. Apparently I had bumped into him, or maybe he was having a bad day and needed someone to pick on, but nonetheless he began growling inwardly, shoving me to the side. I yelped, drawing attention to myself as I doubled over and was flung to the ground. I hit the ground with a thud, breathing heavily and mentally willing the pain away as it ebbed and slowly faded. All around me eyes narrowed, scowls formed, and whispers were passed from canine to canine.
"She's so worthless!"
"She should have been omega.."
"I know, right!? She's so weak!"
"It's her hunting skills... that's the only reason she isn't at the bottom where she should be."
"Have you seen her!? She talks to her prey as if they understand her, and her them. She's nuts!"
Eventually I stopped listening, flattening my ears and opening my eyes slowly. I sobbed, and, forcing myself to stand, I burst through the crowd, shoving everywolf aside. I ignored any growls, yelps, or verbal complaints. Negativity would have only made it worse. I slowed to a halt and pushed through the bracken into the healer's den, seeking out one of my very few, dear friends. I had meant to go there anyways, but... Now I had more than one reason.

Personality: Caspian is a very kind wolf. He is usually very calm and rational, though can get a bit of a temper when dealing with overly rude or arrogant wolves. He's a great fighter, and can really be very aggressive in a battle situation. He's a large wolf, for his species, and really isn't a very fast runner. Though what he lacks in speed, he makes up for in stamina. Caspian loves pups and would make a good father despite the fact that he can sometimes be a bit too overprotective of those he cares for. Caspian has always preferred the thrill of battle over the quiet patience that hunting requires and it shows when he does hunt.

Roleplay Sample: Caspian lay on a cold rock. He was a few feet in the air, the large rock giving him extra height to survey the territory. His pale blue eyes glanced over the forest and grass, searching for signs of intruders or prey. Caspian was cautious sometimes, but he didn't show it much. After seeing nothing of interest on the horizon, Caspian layed his head on his paws and yawned, his expression a bit drowsy. All of a sudden, a bird burst from the trees in a cacophonous song of screeches and caws. Caspian cocked his head slightly, wondering what had frightened the bird. Just as the thought left Caspian's mind, he glimpsed a wolf's tail disappearing behind the trees. Curious, Caspian stood and jumped off the rock, landing without a sound on the soft grass. Caspian began to pad silently in the direction of what he believed to be an intruder. As he neared the tree where he had seen the tail, a loud snarl sounded behind him. Whirling towards the sound, Caspian had turned just in time to see a scrawny female wolf launch herself at him. The female was a deep brown color with speckles of silver. Yelping in surprise as he was tackled by the intruder, Caspian hurried to his feet before she could launch another attack. He growled, the sound coming from deep within his throat. Caspian was attempting to warn the female before he counterattacked. Caspian didn't like to fight opponents that were smaller or weaker than him unless he absolutely had too. When the female lunged again, Caspian stopped his warning growl and dodged, quickly pivoting on his hind legs and pushing the female's shoulder with his brute strength. The female fell on the ground with a sickening thud. Caspian was on her in seconds, pinning her down with his front foot and bending down to look at her. "Leave" He said in a howrse growl. He took his paw off of her and snapped, near her face. The female picked herself up off the ground and crouched down in front of Caspian, seeming to want to fight more. Caspian rushed her, and she stumbled as she dodged. Caspian snapped again and the female got up. She glared at Caspian before turning and taking off further into the forest. Caspian ran after her for a minute or two, then turned back in the direction of camp, preparing to inform the alpha of the occurrence.
Is this ok? I didn't want Caspian to seem powerful or anything but I was totally blocked of other ideas for the sample.

Update! Markings have been edited, along with Nose and Tail Tip colors. Ham markings are now fully compatible with this species. XD Blind eyes have replaced Pupiless/Orb. Map is finished. Link to screenshots and download can be found in the first post.

Roleplay Sample: Drasko searched around the area, not really looking for anything important. He just wanted peace and he didn't like being picked on. He just simply walked around the area outside not caring if he accidently broke the rules, he just wanted to be alone for awhile. He then spotted a rock and thought, 'Hmm...maybe I could sleep on it, I am feeling a bit tired and my legs are aching.' Drasko leapt onto the rock and walked in a slow circle on the rock. 'Hrm, this seems nice.' Drasko thought to himself again. He then sat down on the rock, and layed down his paws and legs straight, and lowering his head onto the rock. He then shut his eyes and slept on the rock, but his ears were still wide and alert to hear any noises or voices to hear in case someone had already claimed the rock.
When Drasko woke up, he just eyed some trees and bushes, but the bushes were moving and shuddering to him. Drasko stood up bravely and started snarling and walking towards the bush. When he got closer to the bush, he saw that there was a muskrat. "Hello muskrat. Welcome to the nightmare." Drasko snarled. He opened his jaws and bit the muskrat's throat, crushing it's jugular. After killing the muskrat, Drasko then ate the muskrat carcass hungrily, while wagging his tail.
Drasko then went back to his rock and found that he had to return back to the den. "Oh. So much for hunting a muskrat and sleeping on a rock." he growled.

She is a very low-tempered wolf. She is very kind, yet doesn't talk much. When she does, it's always important. She
doesn't like to swim a lot, yet she is very into getting wet with a hose. She has no idea why, but she just does.
She is a very great hunter. She doesn't know if she wants to join as a hunter yet, but she still likes the thrill and excitement. She is a little shy, but she still only says a few words. She doesn't like to talk about her past, because
it makes her cry and be unlikely to come around more. She only speaks to her greatest friends, this is because
she doesn't trust someone until she sees they have a good heart. If she sees someone in danger, Oh! She will
always help! She won't let any of her friends get hurt, because they are all she has now. Her parents were teaching
her how to hunt at the time. . . And then the hunters arrived. Her parents were getting food for the pack when
they came along. They ran into the hunters and they shot her parents. She got worried and carried her puppy
self around not knowing where they had gone. Then she saw two wolves exactly like her parents, dead on the
ground with each a bullet in their legs. This is why she is so quiet, she doesn't like many who have hatred.

Roleplay sample: Alisia dashed through the woods, hoping to meet the party of hunters before time was out.
She thought "Why don't I just get extras?" She ran around and found a shady log to creep in and wait for the sound
of movement. Then she spotted a mouse. She saw the mouse run away and she then growled. She pounced out of the log and chased the mouse. She dodged the trees as she moved. Then she spotted the furry, small critter just a few feet ahead of her. She jumped, feeling airborne as she did. She dug her claws in the mouse, killing it in a second.
