Characters / Brutus the Lionslayer
« on: March 10, 2013, 06:04:53 am »

I know he doesn't look exactly like a Sable Antelope, but I did my best with what I had. And Sable Antelope are just so awesome that I had to make a FH character of one.

Brutus is a mature bull Sable Antelope, about four years old (early to mid-twenties in antelope years). His entire herd (of which he was the lead bull) was slaughtered by poachers, and this traumatizing event has twisted his formerly noble and strong-willed nature into nervousness and snappishness, his quick temper leading him to strike first and ask questions later. The violent and unexpected death of his herd, and him being the sole survivor, has caused him to doubt his own bravery and leadership skills. "I should have fought the poachers. I should have stayed and died with my herd." Such thoughts weigh heavily on his mind, and he attempts to reassure himself of his courage by ferociously killing any predator who dares attempt to hunt him. He has earned himself a fearsome reputation, and has become known amongst carnivores and herbivores alike as the Lionslayer. The blood on Brutus's horns assuage the pain in his heart, but at his core, he is still empty and deeply shaken by the death of his friends and loved ones.

Hello, everyone! I have compiled a little folder of music from some of my favorite movies to be used as in-game music for FeralHeart. All of the music in this folder is music that I personally believe fits the FeralHeart "theme" (sprawling, epic music, mostly instrumental, that calls to mind magnificent landscapes and majestic wild animals, with a touch of fantasy).

Includes music from: The Land Before Time, Princess Mononoke, The Lord of the Rings, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, and others.

Also includes music by Enya, Adiemus, Fox Amoore, and X-Ray Dog.

Characters / Morgana
« on: February 23, 2013, 04:02:55 am »

Once upon a time, there was a gentle princess named Morgana who was due to be married to a powerful, handsome wizard named Rogenstern. The king, queen, and all of their subjects awaited the wedding day with joy in their hearts, for they believed that the union would bring a new age of happiness and prosperity to their kingdom. They also believed that Rogenstern and Morgana were the perfect match.

Morgana did not share her parents' high regard for Rogenstern. She was already in love with her pageboy, Camile. Naturally, such a romance was forbidden, especially in light of her engagement to Rogenstern, so the only moments she could spend with Camile were secret, stolen moments in the dead of night when she believed that no one would discover them.

Of course, Rogenstern was not a fool, and being the powerful wizard that he was, he soon discovered Morgana's secret and forced her to confess. Then, in his rage and jealousy, he transformed Morgana into an enormous black bear. Morgana, horrified of her monstrous new state, fled the castle and kingdom, barely escaping alive in all of the panic and confusion, for her beastly presence did not go unnoticed. She had lost all power of human speech, so she could not tell her parents or servants who she was, and no one recognized her. Rogenstern then set out to search for Morgana's lover so that he would kill him, but Morgana had not told him the name of her lover, so the wizard never discovered or suspected Camile. The pageboy was safe.

It was only after Morgana had long fled the kingdom that the king and queen began to suspect that the disappearance of their daughter, the appearance of the monstrous bear, and the sudden vanishing of Rogenstern were all connected events. They have sent search parties throughout the kingdom and the outlying lands for Morgana and Rogenstern, but to no avail. Camile discovered the truth as well, and had already set out to search for Morgana long before the king and queen. So far, he has not found Morgana yet, but he may be closer to finding her than he thinks.

As for Morgana, she has been roaming the Wild Yonder Lands, searching for a witch or wizard powerful enough to break her spell.

What are your favorite fantasy/fiction novels in which animals (especially talking ones) are the main characters?

Here are some of mine:

Watership Down by Richard Adams

Fire Bringer by David Clement-Davies (author of The Sight)

Raptor Red by Robert T. Bakker

Redwall (the first book, which I think is the best) by Brian Jacques

Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams

Charlotte's Web by E. B. White

The Call of the Wild and White Fang by Jack London

The Plague Dogs by Richard Adams (author of Watership Down and Shardik)

Bambi: A Life in the Woods by Felix Salten (this is the awesome book the famous Disney movie is based on)

This package contains three different title mods, my FH Music Mod (which you can download by itself here: http://fav.me/d5o2e7a ), and a folder of modified loading screen images. This is not an interface mod. The interface that I use (and the interface that you see in the image) is Simba's FH+ interface.

I know FH was originally intended to be a game just for canines and felines, but players don't have to be so limited. When players use their imagination and use it well, FeralHeart becomes populated with all kinds of interesting animals, not just wolves and lions. That's why I added the elk and the zebra, because I believe that all feral beasts are welcome in the fun, creative realm that is FeralHeart. So that's what I made this mod for, to encourage people to step out of their comfort zone and diversify their rping experience.

...Well, now that THAT is over, onto the technical stuff.

Other Mods/Creations / FH Opening Title Mod
« on: December 31, 2012, 07:14:19 am »

I got a little bored with the default title image of FH, so I decided to make one of my own. It's not as awesome-looking as I thought it was going to be, but I like it. Nice and simple.

Game Discussion / What got you into FeralHeart?
« on: December 29, 2012, 02:51:16 am »
Where did you hear about FeralHeart, and what got you into playing it?

I heard about it on The Endless Forest forum. The idea of there being such a high level of character customization, and the ability to modify and change your gaming experience (making presets and maps and such) intrigued me. I watched a few FH YouTube videos, just to see what folks were talking about, and I became even more intrigued. Since it was completely free, I figured I had nothing to lose. And now here I am today, stalking the forums when I'm not at work. :D

By the way, I'll give you an imaginary internet cookie if you post a screenshot of your very first FH character. :3 Here's mine:

Game Help / Transparent Wings
« on: December 24, 2012, 04:42:04 am »
I'm trying to create a preset that will make my character's wings completely invisible (so my character will look like it's floating instead of flapping its wings).

I've looked at this tutorial and followed the instructions. http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2011/183/3/3/feral_heart_preset_script_tuto_by_happyshadow-d3ax1d2.html

I went to preset_11 in My Presets, opened the wing texture and turned it into a png file, added the alpha channel, and made the entire thing transparent (I erased it all, leaving the transparent background), but when I export the preset, it's white and textureless, turning not only the wings but my entire character white.

I'm probably doing something stupidly, obviously wrong, so I'll need to have any help explained to me as simply as possible. I'm no whiz with computer coding.

Thanks very much, and Happy Holidays. :3

Art Gallery / Abomine's Entry
« on: December 23, 2012, 08:38:10 pm »

This is Abomine, my fursona/mouthpiece/mascot/whatever, the character I use when I'm wandering around and chatting in the public maps of FeralHeart. Yep, she's a deer, or at least part deer.

As you can imagine, I really abused the smudge tool in Gimp. But I think it was worth it in the end. It made some decent-looking grass.
