Other Games / Re: WolfQuest :c

I'm kinda surprised how this makes me feel a little sad... I never really liked WQ all that much because the people there tended to be a little on the strange side and not to mention very offensive and rude (I also didn't have great experiences with some of the mods, nothing serious but it just got annoying to a point where I avoided the forums all together), and the chat filter has gone way more than "overboard", but nonetheless it was where I first began to learn how to RP and what it actually meant. I met great people there, too, and had some good experiences there, and still recall them to this day. Though I won't be downloading it ever again (as it had nearly destroyed my old computer one time and crashed on me quite often, and the chat filter is more than annoying), I gotta say I may miss seeing this game. No doubt, though, I'm sure it'll still be talked about and remembered for years to come, either good or bad.

Game Discussion / Re: A guide to wolfspeak and why you shouldn't use it
« on: February 08, 2013, 12:03:43 am »
Some of the wolf-speak for the body parts they describe, I think is 'ok'
like Jowels and Chops for lips (though Chops is an informal term and I've only heard Brittons use that- expecially South Londoners)
Flank for the side (even I use that sometimes, though mostly as 'flanked')
abdomen for stomach or belly, (even humans has 'abdomens' though it a term mostly assositated (at least for me) for insects)
and Haunches for the back leg or bottom (eg: sat on his haunches).

None of those (except maybe abdomen, I'm not quite sure) are really even considered wolfspeak as they're all used correctly haha.

Definitions:

Chops- Noun
A person's or animal's mouth or jaws.
A person's cheeks; jowls.

Flank- Noun
The side of a person's or animal's body between the ribs and the hip.
Synonyms: noun.     side - wing

Abdomen- Noun
The part of the body of a vertebrate containing the digestive organs; the belly. In mammals it is bounded by the diaphragm and the pelvis.
The posterior part of the body of an arthropod, esp. the segments of an insect's body behind the thorax.
Synonyms: belly - stomach - paunch - tummy - venter

Haunches- Noun
A buttock and thigh considered together, in a human or animal.
The leg and loin of an animal as food.

Those who don't use wolfspeak tend to use these more often than wolfspeakers themselves, at least that's what I've noticed~

It really depends on what I'm RPing (as some have mentioned already), though with animals it's almost always semi-realistic. Mostly for these reasons right here:

I like realistic colouring but with different patterns than the real animal, just to add a bit of uniqueness to it. I definitely don't like the neons that run around and make me what to get sunglasses, I think that's a little extreme. Rarely ever is there an unrealistic character that I play as

On the other hand, fully realistic really limits your choices with most wild animals. In the end, the choices for a realistic lion are pretty much beige, kinda light beige, and slightly mottled... beige. XD

I give my characters realistic colors but add different combinations and patterns so they're more unique, but still realistic enough. It's also for RP as well, for instance with a full on realistic RP there's a very limited amount of what your character could actually do and less creativity. Not to mention you'd have to follow rules such as if you were in a wolf pack, only the Alpha pair are allowed to mate and all you do, really, is hunt.

Game Discussion / Re: Notices...

When a past is made for the sole purpose of seeking attention and pity, that's what irks me... Even if two characters happen to have almost the same exact past but one wrote it up just to have it and the other did it so they could relate their tale with a sad face and receive comfort, I'd very likely rather RP with the more modest of the two characters.

However, I don't think the same should fall on all "tragic" pasts even if some are a bit cliche. I believe someone has mentioned this already before, but if the RPer of the character Rps well, pasts like that can actually be interesting and instead of being annoying they can be inspiring. Admittedly, I usually have my characters' pasts not-so-average, but I also try avoiding making them overly dramatic and, more importantly for me at any rate, depressing. I don't write them up for attention and the like, though. For me, it's to define the character. After all, don't most become who they are through experience? I always work on pasts/histories last with my characters, while the first things that come to me are their personality and looks. I then work from there and sometimes try finding out more about their pasts through RP. For example, most of my characters tend to be very serious and very distrusting of others. Which would be more likely: something happened to them long ago that's caused them to be less willing to put trust in someone else or they're just doing it just because they feel like it? I'm not encouraging pasts to be very dramatic or anything of the like, but a past can still be a tragic/interesting one while still being realistic. They also don't need to be exaggerated to be interesting, something simple could work just as well if not more so.
Another example (sort of) is so your character somewhat matches your own experience so you yourself don't feel like your held back and forced to RP something else you don't like. For instance, I usually prefer Rping characters that can fight and make plans, and they tend to not be so submitting (not meaning they always want to be in charge, but they're not pushovers, either). If I had a character with no real developed history, chances are they're as ignorant and clueless as a newborn pup exploring a new world and more likely to fall under those with more experience and knowledge and very likely they may fall somewhere else that I'm not so great at/enjoy being, such as being a healer or some sort of hunter. I'd normally be okay with this for a few characters cause it excites me to see how they'd turn out, but not 100% of the time. I don't know about anyone else, but I feel extremely uncomfortable (not to mention it'd be completely unrealistic) to have my character, with no experience whatsoever, suddenly bust out with fighting moves and able to take down someone that would of generally kicked their butt, and when they shouldn't have known what to do in the first place. This irritates me, actually, because I've come across some people who've done this. Who do you think would, generally, have the upper hand (or paw) in a fight?: A wolf that grew up in a pack it's whole life with few-to-no fights or one, perhaps even near the same age as the first, who has seen more of the world with more fighting experience and having a more dire need to keep themselves safe and survive all on their own? This isn't to say the second would automatically win in a fight, but I think it's completely insane to have the first wolf be able to beat the second so "easily" or without having some sort of trouble. Sorry if that got a bit off topic, it was something that bugged me for awhile~

I think I've answered the second question already, though I mostly prefer RPing adults when it involves animals and more older teens - young adults (17-19, sometimes 16) with humans. Rping anything younger could be fun but most of the time means you can't really include a past that'd have developed your character because they're already being developed and so learn what they do from what you RP from then on out. I don't know if anyone else does this, but to be more realistic I try sticking with what my character experiences and learns to have them turn out the way they are rather than from my own experience. Perhaps if my character grew up with a trainer to teach them some fighting skills and such I'd be more comfortable with it, but I like it better when my characters already have the experience needed. However, I've only ever RPed as a pup once in my life and still am RPing them. So far it's very enjoyable and I'm loving how she's turning out :3

((You're completely fine ^.^
I'll make another post though after this I'm waiting on Wolfy and JD. Both really need to post to show they're still in the RP, especially JD so we know where his character is D: ))

Raven had gone straight to her room at the inn when her services were no longer required. Outwardly she seemed completely fine, her demeanor the same as always if just a bit tired. However, as soon as the door to her room had closed she had collapsed in a coughing fit, hacking and wheezing while trying to muffle it with a hankerchief. A cold sweat broke over her body and her vision blurred, body shivering despite the warmth coming from her head and the temperature in the room. After a minute or two of sitting on the floor with her back braced on the door, the mage had quickly rose when she recovered from her coughing fit, going over to a small table and set about taking out some ingredients from her robe. Raven had hot water brought up to her (which took awhile, quite curiously. Either the maids were preoccupied with something or busy tending to other guests) and with it, she inserted the necessary ingredients, measured precisely. When the strange concoction was finished brewing, she took a few, heavy droughts from the cup, squinting at the taste but putting up with it. Afterwards, she headed straight to bed, and fell in an uncomfortable sleep.

She awoke as the suns rays touched her eyes, blinking groggily with eyes stinging even though the light was soft and not at all bright. It was almost like waking from a hangover except without experiencing getting drunk, but nonetheless Raven rose from bed and set about getting ready. Dark circles were quite noticeable from her pale skin, and she splashed cold water in her face to wake herself up and clear her mind. She set about removing the robe she wore for her performance (stained and wrinkled now) and donned on another that was more simple and matched her eyes. Packing up the rest of her belongings (washing out the cup she used the previous night), the mage headed out.

Finding the princess wasn't much difficulty. Of course Raven recalled her horse and just headed toward where it was tethered at, her theory guessed correctly as she saw Carina tend to her horse. Leaning against her staff, Raven remained at a suitable distance, hood drawn over her head to hide the look most likely remaining upon her visage from the previous night. "Greetings, royal one," she spoke, her voice as strong as ever despite what had happened. "Sleep well?'

((Apologies for being a bit short and choppy ^.^'))

((Hey everyone! The internet finally came back on tonight, so I'm back in the RP! ^.^
I hope it'll be okay if I make a time skip now? Everyone's free to make a post of what they did before, it just seems like the perfect opportunity with how much time has passed and how slow things got haha. We'll only be skipping to the next morning, though, and with Raven and Carina meeting with JD's character, I hope. I'm not quite sure what Noah or Amber could do, though perhaps they try to spy on the meeting themselves? Just a little note, Raven would know they were there considering her ability but she won't acknowledge them till the end xD Any ideas/suggestions are welcomed as well, just know that the whole group should have a reason to start traveling together :3))

The flicking of dark violet eyes to the male was the only outward acknowledgement Raven gave to Noah's inner instinct, the mage sensing the light spark of rebellion within him. She had also caught it from Carina a few times though it wasn't quite the same, not so "rebellious" but rather... what was the word, offended? That probably wasn't right either, but it sounded more appropriate and made more sense considering Carina is a princess and all. Secretly, though, it kinda irked Raven. She was trying to prove through her actions and words that she wasn't going to bow on her knees and think highly of her because she just so happened to be a relative of the King like everyone else did. She also isn't going to try and prove that she thinks she's better than her, though, either, the mage was only behaving how she did around anyone on any other normal circumstance. Did that mean she wanted to be the one in charge and lead? No, but it didn't mean she was going to readily back down and submit to someone's orders just because they think they've earned the right to order her around. This casa nova character was no different, probably even less likely to win over Raven's approval but it didn't matter to her. It was why she avoided groups most of the time, anyway.

"It's called an exper," the mage explained, focusing her full attention back to the matter at hand. It was more slowly this time, Raven hesitant as she began feeling the fingers of exhaustion creeping up on her, silently debating if she was fit enough to do this. Once her focus was regained, though, the fingers slipped back and she was fine again, getting back into position. With a deep breath, she repeated the process that she had done with the old man, explaining what the exper was and what it was doing all the awhile. Eventually the wisp was drawn out of Amber and spilled all over the ground, much more quickly than it had taken Raven to do previously.

"I apologize for having to leave you so quickly, but I must tend to the others. Amber, if you're still not feeling well, go see to Carina and see what she can do for you." Bending her body just a few inches, her free hand placed firmly by her side, Raven gave a farewell half-bow before turning abruptly away, eager to get on with her duties and turn in for the night before everything started backfiring on her. One thing she did know, though, was tonight was going to be a sleepless one...

((Hey guys, I'm afraid I'm going to have to drop out! It's a shame, though, I was hoping I'd have enough time to keep up but it doesn't appear I do haha >.< If anyone has tried talking to Az [it doesn't look like it, which would be convenient] you can either ignore that bit or say something happened that caused him to be distracted or some such thing and move on.

If I have more time in the future, I may come back and reapply. Until then, have fun with the RP everyone and good luck on keeping it active! ^.^ Hopefully I'll see you all soon!))

((All of your posts were marvelous!))

What was left of the wood cackled and popped as the flames ate what they could, dying away in the morning mists. A lone mouseman stood before the flames, eyes reflecting their light in a golden hue with a fire all of their own, but these flames were strong and only growing. There were no more logs or sticks to add to the flames but it was alright, because Azgul didn't plan on remaining for much longer. No, his sights were set on something else that morning rather then more wood collecting, though he saw it more in his mind's eye. Gehana. Cities made of gold... He mused to himself, drawing patterns into the dirt between his feet with the tip of his sword. What to suspect from a place such as that... I've heard great warriors come from there. I wonder if they'll accept me as one of them?

Az had lived around Haafiner, where he learned most of his skills and gained his inspiration. He didn't want to brag, but he was pretty savvy there, talented among his peers and friends and eventually drawing his wish to perhaps join the military, though there haven't been any wars in a long while. But that may take some time yet, he felt there was still things to learn and eventually he decided to leave his home behind. How could he know if he was progressing if he remained in the same setting with the same people? He needed to put his skills to the test and challenge others, to make sure that he was, indeed, growing stronger and earning experience. He did miss home, but sitting there now after weeks of travel he didn't regret a thing. His destination was specifically chosen for it's grandness and rumors of talented folk being there, especially about Blasphemious. Maybe someday he'll make me a Captain, with my own squadron... The idea had his chest puffing proudly and fur lightly bristling, but it was short lived when he shook his head. Now now, Magyle, don't be foolish now. Know your limitations and current situation, don't rush head long into a dark forest when you know little about it.

Azgul rose from his seat, kicking dirt to douse the remaining flames. The mouseman turned to his next destination, a path that led straight there (or so he was told). Straightening coat, belt, and sheathing weapon, he was on his way.

~*~*~*~*~

The sight was breathtaking, unlike anything he had seen before. The stories and tales he had heard were nothing in comparison, there was simply nothing that could of brought this place justice. The mouseman was practically rooted to the spot when he first laid eyes upon the city, and so caught up in it he failed to take notice of the gathering on the Main Road in front of the castle. When the spell was finally broken, his amber eyes eventually did settle on the tents and carts, his brows furrowed in curiosity at the sight.

I wonder what's going on down there?

Unfortunately for Az, he had gotten lost for a few days during his travel. It didn't phase him as it wasn't anything he couldn't handle though it did delay him. Even now he was standing upon a hill, off toward the right side of the road when going in toward the castle instead on the actual road. However, he was a bit hungry and thirsty and faint smells of fish and bread could be caught from the wind, sending his stomach to complain to him. He gave it a firm tap and stern look, which seemed to quiet it down enough, but looking back to the festival he was still puzzling over what it could mean. His days spent in the nearby forest had not told him word about the annual festival dedicated to the earth god, Akavi, nor did he really know much about the festival since he'd never paid attention to such things. Not out of disrespect, oh no!, but his mind was usually preoccupied with other things.

Well, standing here staring isn't going to give me any answers, he decided. With a resolved nod, Azgul began his decent toward the activities, excitement bubbling within him though he kept a leveled head and confident stature.
