Game Discussion / Re: Do you like horse characters?
« on: August 07, 2014, 08:07:18 pm »
Personally-- and I'm really only speaking for myself here-- it's just jarring visually, when you see a wolf avatar but the posts are describing a horse... That and the fact that a lot of the posts made in these horse-RPs from these characters are often really, genuinely awfully-written, but I just tend to chalk that up to the players being young and inexperienced and, hey, everybody's gotta start somewhere.

I don't personally see the appeal in it, but I can see why others would choose to roleplay as horses on FH; there really isn't a visual-based MMO-style game like this available with horses as playable characters. (Though I will admit, I would kill for one... Been wanting to find one for years!)

Well, their last response here was like... Nine days ago? D: I hope they didn't forget! Although I guess I could always sign up on their forums and apply there?

Name: Phoenix

Gender: Female

Species of Wolf: Eurasian Wolf

Pack: Either or, really! They both sound great, and I honestly can't make up my mind! XD

Rank You'd Consider Having: Scout

Eye Colour: Emerald Green

Soul Colour: Dark green.

Past History: Phoenix and her two sisters, Khali and Fiora, were born to a pair of hunters in a pack that, shortly after, fell apart after a violent conflict with a rival pack-- A conflict that resulted in the loss of both of her parents. Since then, Phoenix and her sisters wandered the lands together, fiercely loyal to one another, having been raised on the belief that family always came first. On a hot summer night, the forest the three of them had made their home in was suddenly alive with fire, separating the three of them; Phoenix later found the charred body of Khali among the ashes, but her older sister Fiora was nowhere to be found. Strong in the belief that her sister was still alive, she's been travelling on her own ever since, determined to find her.

Roleplay Sample:

Phoenix's howl came so loud, and so suddenly, that several of the birds nestled in the nearby trees took off into the sky out of fright; down below, the noise had frightened a fat rabbit out from underneath a log... And that was what she wanted. The second she spotted that rabbit, Phoenix was off, bounding over stumps and raised roots in hot pursuit. Green eyes glittered with a wild determination, jaws parted in a heavy pant. Through the underbrush, zig-zagging around the trees, across a clearing and towards the dusty, barren base of the cliffside... She was closing in.

Phoenix knew what was up ahead: rocks from the cliff-face that hung over the valley rose up on either side of them, and at the end of that tightened path was nothing but a rock wall. It was a dead end, and that damned rabbit would have nowhere else to go. She had the whole thing planned out. Any minute now, the rabbit would realize it was trapped, slow down, come to a stop, and either accept its fate or just claw at the wall until Phoenix got to it.

She was getting closer...

... But the rabbit was still going full-tilt, straight at the wall. The sudden realization that this fuzzball wasn't planning to come to a stop almost made Phoenix stumble. What was it expecting to do? Just run straight through the rocks? She picked up the pace, paws pounding on the dusty earth as she tried to catch up. She was just a few feet from it... She craned her neck, jaws wide open...

The rabbit jumped at the end of the path, and as it did Phoenix sprang forward, intending to snatch it out of the air.

Fuzzy bunny paws met the rock wall and sprang back, launching the rabbit straight over Phoenix's head.

She caught only a brief glance at the rabbit flying above her, twisting its body in the opposite direction, before she was met with a face-full of rock.

She collapsed on the ground with stars in her eyes. Once the world stopped spinning-- or at least managed to spin at only a moderate pace-- she clambered to her feet, and stumbled around just in time to see the rabbit dart out of the rock path and disappear around a corner.

All she could do was stare. And stare... And stare. Then her posture slouched, and her backside plopped down in a clumsy sit.

"... Huh," she snorted after a long moment's silence. She wrinkled her aching, bleeding nose and winced. "... Didn't know they could do that."

Why You Believe You'd be a Good Member of Onyx Chain: I have several years' experience in para and multi-para literate feral wolf roleplay, and even more years' experience in roleplay of other genres; it's been some time, however, due to personal life things that got in the way of my RP-time, so I'm a little bit rusty at the moment. However, when I saw the ad for this group I was reminded a lot of the feral wolf RP where I'd originally started and learned to love this genre, and I think I'd have a lot of fun with this setting and this group of people.

Activity: It varies. I work a full-time job with pretty flexible hours, so sometimes I'll only be available in the mornings, other times I'll only be available in the evenings. I usually have two days off a week (sometimes three), though they vary as well depending on the schedule. If need be, I can give a better idea of what my availability will be like each week as my schedule comes out so the mods are aware beforehand. :)

Do you have skype?: I do! My username is kiha.korin :D

@DungeonSiegeWolf: Awesome! :D Do you know when someone will be online to add members to the group?

Character Name: Atticus

Age: 5 years

Rank: Healer

Picture (From the game)/Description: See icon + Signature (though his eyes have recently been changed to blue, and are no longer red!) :D Atticus is an average-sized grey-and-black lion with a large, striking white mane. His fur is longer and fluffier than most lions, developed more for living in colder climates.

History/Past: Overall, Atticus has lived a rather boring life-- Born into a nomadic pride of winged lions far north, Atticus spent most of his life learning the art of healing and following after his parents. Upon reaching adolescence, it was then that the other members of his pride learned that his wings weren't growing or developing the way they were supposed to for his age; though they were fully-feathered and functional, they were just... Small, so small that there was no possible chance that he could ever learn to fly like his pridemates. Though such a thing were not uncommon among prides like his, it did make the annual flight migrations more difficult for him; where he could be carried by his parents when he was younger, he was now too large for such an option and could no longer join the pride in their flights. Because of this, he chose to leave the pride to find a more suitable one, and has been searching ever since.

Roleplay sample:

"You've GOT to be kidding me."

He'd been at this for hours, and still hadn't achieved a single bloody thing. Tired, frustrated, and soaking wet, Atticus plopped his soggy butt back down on the riverbank and frowned into the muddy water, staring at the salmon as they splashed and bounced upstream. There was a reason he preferred hunting land-animals to chasing down fish-- in fact, there were several; twenty-seven, to be precise, and most of them he could recite off the top of his head. However, he was in the middle of a barrens, which made hunting much more difficult.

   So fish it was.

"I hate water!" He growled, swatting his paw helplessly at a salmon only to knock it further away from him. He snorted.
"Fish are stupid--" He narrowly missed stomping on a salmon as it swam between his legs.
"-- slippery--" Another swat, another miss.
"-- and they don't even taste that good!" One jumped by him and he snapped his jaws at it, and had almost closed around the tail... Which slapped him across the face, causing him to recoil so hard he lost his footing on the rocky riverbed, slipped and disappeared underwater in a messy splash of fur, water, and feathers.

Moments later he resurfaced, letting out a roar of such rage that, had it been a word, would have been one of those words that can't be written down here for the sheer vulgarity of it. Forcing himself up to his feet again, he dragged himself out of the water again, up into the riverbank, and back across the barrens again.

"... Wasn't hungry anyway," he mumbled moodily.

Other:

I work a full-time job, and I'm not on a set schedule, so there will be days where I'm only online in the evenings, and days where I'm only on in the mornings/early afternoons. I get two days off a week, though it'll vary each week depending on the schedule. I can let you know what my availability will be like each week as my schedule comes in, though, and keep you posted if anything comes up that may result in an absence. :D

Also, though I have lots of experience doing feral RP, it's been a couple of years since I really got into it again and so I'm a little bit rusty! I'm also more used to paragraph and multi-paragraph roleplay (mostly on forums and games like Furcadia), so it may take me a little bit of time to get used to RP'ing through FeralHeart! I hope this won't be too much of a problem. :)

Thanks for your consideration!

Ahh, okay! :D That makes sense. Thanks! ^^

Can I ask what exactly is meant by "Semi-realistic"? I've been trying to find a decent pride to bring my character Atticus (see signature) into but I haven't done feral RP in a while, so I'm totally lost on what the difference is between "realistic" and "semi-realistic" and whether or not my character would be suitable, haha.

This looks great! I'll be writing up an application in the morning.

Characters / Introducing... Atticus!
« on: November 30, 2013, 02:44:58 am »
I haven't played FeralHeart in forever, but I recently came back, re-installed the game, some markings packs and the Pawsome Items Pack and decided to tinker with one of my old characters!

Introducing... The new and improved Atticus!

I haven't come up with much of a backstory for him yet (Backstories were always my weak point, haha), but in terms of personality he's not nearly as doom-and-gloom and broody-angsty as he looks! He's actually a total clown, and is a bit more of a comic-relief sort of character with his sarcasm and somewhat morbid sense of humor, and doesn't really like taking things too seriously. He doesn't like to fight much, but loves egging on other peoples' fights, or even instigating fights between other people so he can watch and giggle from the sidelines. Pranks are among his favorite pastimes... Overall, he just prefers to have fun!

(Oh, and by the way... He's looking for a pride. :P Just sayin'! I've been scouring the group advertisement boards for a week but everything seems to be either realistic-- meaning his little chickenwings wouldn't be allowed, haha-- or wolf packs or Warrior Cats. XD;; If you have a pride who might be interested in recruiting him, let me know! I prefer semi-lit/literate RPs and I can provide post samples if necessary. :D)
